As much as I love Shadowrun, I do like other games, and I sometimes wonder about converting Shadowrun to those other systems.  In my case, I've considered converting to the GURPS system, which I really love, and feel is appropriate to the feel of Shadowrun.

Has anyone else considered Shadowrun conversion to other systems?

All the tools are there already in GURPS. Just be sure to device beforehand whether 'ware costs point, money or both and keep in mind that with no Essence, you'll either have to make something up or deal with heavily cybered Mages.

I had done a conversion with the d20 rules back before 4th Edition came out.

when 4ed came out i initially played with the idea of trying to transfer it to the "Minds eye theater" rules so that i could take SR players, convert their characters to "Hunter" characters and bust up con VtM games....those little buggers have always annoyed the hades out of me
May god grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, to change the things I can, and the firepower to make the difference.

Just like Skyrock here in Germany
He did also a Conversion for SR4 --> D20
I tried to Convert SR3 to GURPS but I wasn't pleased with the Astral Space. Everything else is easily
converted....but that acursed Astral Space and the Meta Planes.... ???

I have run Shadowrun games using the Mutants and Masterminds system, both 2E and 3E.

I have also run one with GURPS before.  When I convert settings, I usually try and pick a system that doesn't make me do a lot of work on rules/mechanics.

I used a mana point/power point variant which I believe was presented in one of the GURPS supplements to simulate drain; for M&M, the players bought the Magic Power and since they were constantly having to power stunt to get all the spells they needed to cast or alter effects on, it simulated drain pretty easily.

The Matrix was handled by using powers and transporing an alternate form into the matrix to represent the users persona.  One thing about M&M is that the skills rules and a combination of the right powers made it easy to create a Matrix powerhouse character who could never fail a roll.  DC 30's were scoffed at.  I got around this by treating all Matrix systems as intelligent NPC's which required the use of the power rules moreso than the skill rules and brought in the same level of power stunting and such as you see in the Awakened characters.  I treated Matrix IC as Summoned Minions with various Extras depending on the situation which worked out well.

I love Shadowrun's setting and the system is fun but sometimes the system doesn't get me where I want to go and this was an acceptable workaround.

No Cancer !
I'm playing D&D for more than 25 Years now and I'm cancer free
in the Contrary : D&D gave me the Mental Strength to fight off all the evil Storyteller/Railroader-GMs from DSA (the Dark/Black Eye) and the Powercreeper/Storyteller-Bastards from VtM
I don't know about the "New" D&D4 ,which appears to me like just another Boardgame(like Descend) and not a RPG anymore but Old D&D ,AD&D and D&D 3.x are OK in my Eye  ;D

A long time ago I did a test for converting SR to CoC (Call of Cthulhu or in a D100/%-System) but my players ask me why?! Because if they want to play SR than they play SR, if they want to play CoC, they play CoC.
My intention was to have my favorite system mechanics (%-System) with my favorite background or play world (Shadowrun) combined. But I said, it's been ages, since than.
A couple of years back I found the BRP (Basic Roleplaying system) from Chaosium Inc. it is my dream coming true. The %-System as an universal rpg-system (like GURPS) within you can do or place anything or any kind of setting. It's Awesome! But like in the past my players don't share my passion for that mixture. :'(

ActuallyI had a chance to see FastJack's D20 verion (hell I might still have the note binder too....) and it wasnt too shabby. Its just a pain in the rear to get decent sci-fi/cyberpunk-ish settings in a D20 format. Thats why I'm here relearning a game I played back with the 2nd edition rules.

Shadowrun 2nd Edition was the first RPG I ever played.  By college, I was introduced also to White Wolf and enjoyed the World of Darkness line.  Even then, I've been monkeying around with the rule system to put WoD-style into my Shadowrun campaign.  The other GM in the group I hang out with and game doesn't like cross-breeding game systems and we've had arguments about me putting WoD-style beings and organizations into my game.  Anyone else done this?

One of the systems it migth fit in is Alternity.  The DarkMatter setting can easily be adapted for Shadowrun and the main rulebook already has cyberwear, mutations, some magic and other races which can be adapted to become trolls, elves and others.  The only thing you will have to remember is that in the Alternity system the combat is very deadly.  One gunshot can kill just about everybody.

I heartily recommend you use Shadowrun to play Shadowrun, but if you really want there's a Shadowrun conversion to HERO System called "Shadowpunk" floating around the interwebs. I think it's a free fanmade product. Hero 5E to be specific, IIRC.

(I loves me some HERO System. Not as much as SR, of course.)

Edit: At least there's no d20s, so it's cancer free.
