Just waiting on Thvor to give Torley's response and negotiations then I can give you the job details and figure out whether you guys are going to ruin Con and Snow's plans for the evening.  :)

Sorry, weekends are really busy for me right now (three kids, all with activities... :o). So I've been keeping up with the game, but haven't had time to post. Will get something up this morning. If anyone has any OOC comments about the job, you've almost missed your chance to speak up. :D

The job sounds OK.  Could you schedule an assembly for a bit after breakfast?  I would hate to disappoint my escort for the evening as that would be bad manners.

Snow does not really need the experience in this guy's bed.  However, it does make business sense to keep the IT guy happy as he would be far more willing to be nice and act as a tech contact if he is, and there could be repercussions if she ditches him.  But it is a group decision, not hers alone.

If there is a group involved in this guy's chances to get laid, that is a whole nother conversation. ;)

I understand Thvor, my two keep me busy as well.

Yeah, O'Connor's not going to be so accommodating about being cockblocked.

Ok, I'm kind of torn on Sam's next move. As a player, I want to take the job so the story can move along.

As a character, Sam wants to tell this guy to shove it; he's got no real connection to Pandora or LA, so the threat of losing the "gravy train" doesn't really scare him. He's fine with the negotiated money, but really doesn't like the idea of taking a job with no down payment, since that just introduces the possibility of getting screwed on the payment later on. If Guiles insists on their taking the job on spec, Sam's likely to just wish him good luck when the video comes out.

I feel like I should RP this out, but I want to get the group's input before Sam starts burning bridges. Thoughts?

Burn, baby, burn. It's a very good thing that O'Connor did not attend this meeting. He doesn't take well to being threatened, especially by slimy pricks like that.

Sam should tell the guy that they're out of towners will no real reason to stay on in L.A., and many have reason to return to Seattle, so fuck his gravy train. Then remind him that he and his client will have their hands full with damage control and ask if its worth it to add the complication of a pissed off runner team just to enact petty revenge.

I'm going to wait my reply until I get some results from my knowledge checks, as what I'm going to say will depend on those.

EDIT: on the other hand, if he knows Firmin and Pandora, we can put pressure via those two to get our payment if he doesn't pay up at the end.  And a copy of that video is quickly made and if he doesn't pay up, we can put it out ourselves as well.

I am new to the group, so my opinion might not carry as much weight, but I think Sam's response is spot on.

Yeah, Clem supports Torley's stand. She doesn't appreciate the threat either, even if she thinks it's a weak threat. It just added to her impression this Johnson is untrustworthy and a snake, so she will definitely follow Sam if they don't at least get half their money up front.

Okay a few notes, almost glad I did unplug yesterday, it gave you a good chance to discuss all this stuff.  I needed the day, had a big test that I managed to dropkick pretty good even after spending a long time studying for so I wasn't in the best mood, and I also had an issue with my 14-year old daughter that required some downtime too.  Anyway, back to the game.

Sammy's knowledge check on Guiles:

Guiles is a former bodyguard turned personal manager, around Pathfinder/Horizon he is generally the guy they put with people that have real talent, but also have "problems," his years as a bodyguard for these same stars helping him keep these troubled souls from being destroyed by the bright lights.  He is a guy who handles people and problems, not the type like Fermin who is more of a sweet talker.

He has been with Christy Daee since she signed with Horizon, almost 10 years ago when she was a tween/teen star on the rise.  This is important because Christy must have been a mess when they signed her, and that she is still with him says that she has kept him very busy putting out her brushfires the whole time.

A note for everyone on Christy Daee, for all of you.  She is one of the hottest singers in the world right now, and for a person with that much exposure she has a relatively clean image.  Your characters may not listen to her music, but you do know her.  Current day equivalents would be in area of Katie Perry or Arianna Grande.

A note on Shadowrunning in general, different jobs come with different payment arrangements.  While it is certainly reasonable to request an advance to handle specific expenses related to the job, situations where you are tasked with the retrieval of an item are generally handled in a money for object fashion.  Nobody pays a bounty hunter for a target ahead of time.

This is not to say you are wrong to walk or question a job, just that operating as though you should be paid for your time when you are just starting out is a good way to price yourselves into the poor house.

Something else to be aware of in reference to the gravy train that has been mentioned.  Your characters should realize by now that you are being DRASTICALLY overpaid to guard props, regardless of the circumstances.  You being paid for what you represent as a resource for Fermin and Pandora, it is a very real and realistic threat for Guiles to make if you turn down this offer, especially if Pandora and Christy are friends as he intimated, that you could be sent packing back to Seattle tomorrow.

I tell you all of this as players, to let you know how things work in this world.  How much your characters know about this is up to you, and I will respond accordingly. Torley as shown himself to be a bit of a snob in negotiations, and he is new at this after all, he fell into to face role by natural talent.  This could be a 'fake it till you make it' tactic, or just him needing to learn on the job, or him just playing hardball, but regardless I will let it play out how it happens.

Let's see if Sammy can convince the others.  We can ask for money for 5 people of course, as the team is 5 large.  That the two others aren't with the negotiations is not an issue, as they can still be doing something for the job we got from Fermin (they are, in a way, so we won't be lying).

This guy was very quick to resort to threats, you should keep walking.
