So the 4th of July is right around the Corner in my Campaign. June 20th, 2075. I'm thinking about having the runners hired to steal a Firework from a Factory/Drug Operation owned by one of the Criminal Syndicates. The Firework in question is about 420kgs. (I did a little research on real fireworks and this is the current world record for biggest firework) I was thinking either Triad, Seoulpa Rings or Yakuza run the factory and are hired by opposing Syndicate to steal the firework.

I thought this would be a fun scenario because:

A. My runners have been very Grenade happy lately.
B. The street Shaman has an affinity for Fire Spirits (and yes I know it's not in Shaman Tradition) I had idea for a Free Fire Spirit to become fixated on the Shaman and follow her around.

I have some questions

1. Would it be realistic to think that a criminal syndicate would have a Firework Factory? Doing a little research there are major companies that handle firework displays in the US.
2. What kind of changes to Firework Technology can anyone think of.. RFID Tags come to mind... AR displays..
3. Motivation
4. Any other fun ideas

Thanks for any suggestions/comments

if it turns a profit, or helps them obscure some aspect of the criminal activity, it's COMPLETELY realistic for a criminal syndicate to own ANYTHING.

As far as motivation, the thing that immediately springs to mind is just to make the people putting on the show look bad.  A loss in perceived status allowing a smaller rival to close the gap just a tiny bit more.

For fun ideas, wouldn't it be just AWFUL if instead of stealing it they have to replace it with a rigged replica that will go off in some embarrassing manner?  See what they come up with to manage to sneak a thousand pound bomb into the place, and another one out of it...

That sounds delightfully evil.

Maybe have them being attacked by go gangers while transporting combustible materials.

2. I think fireworks combined with AR displays would be fun --- maybe the Johnson wants your decker/techno to hack the AR displays to show shall we say "uncomplimentary" or "questionably obtained material" about the org that is putting on the display; or maybe a heart felt confession to Knight Errant.  ;)

3. Let's be honest - when large quantities of fireworks are involved that *is* your motivation!  ;D

4. -Another team of runners sent to do the same task as your team, but for the opposing org.
-AR nude bomb ala Maxwell Smart
-I do like fire spirits and explosives....
-the firework actually *is* a fire elemental free spirit that just loves meta  humans and the 4th of July!
-Swarms of mini-drones with M-80s (would that be M-800s in the 2070s?)

Okay---now I'm going to have to do a 4th of July run for my players! ;)

Oh man, that's awesomely wicked.  Tell the runners that it's just a different firework to embarrass the people but it's actually got hundreds of mini drones with small charges of high powered explosives meant to completely wipe out them out.  Drones landing on necks and detonating.

Make your runners partly responsible for murdering an entire subsection of the Yakuza.  Let the games begin.
