When in the main book it  says you can't defend area attacks at all?

Quick grab from one of the several times this has been asked:

I've read a coupe of places in these threads that there is no defense against AOE attacks (spells or grenades). But there is listed in the defense section of the book a -2 dp modifier for defending against AOE's.  What gives, is that an errata or can you defend against grenades and kind of jumping jack your way out of the area, or do y just miraculously dodge around the shrapnel/cuncussive force?

It's been confirmed as an artefact, a relic from an earlier version that shouldn't be in the book. There is no defense possible against Indirect Area spells and grenades.

Of course, Run&Gun introduced an Interrupt Action where you use your regular Movement allotance to distance yourself from where the center of the blast is aimed at, IIRC.

And that was the answer.  The reason it's in the core book is because it's an error.  That was true immediately upon the core book's release.  There's no "before and after" here - but incidentally, the knowledge referenced long predates R&G.

Hell, look at the post date for a second - back in January, versus R&G going live in April.  The quoted post is the entire answer to your question.  If there was some kind of "before and after" thing in play here, that post's timing would land it firmly on the "before" side.
