Is this Takashi guy from somewhere else in the background? I've already altered him quite a bit for use in my campaign, and he's made a couple of appearances. It would be interesting to know if I'm going to have to patch a fluff-hole somewhere down the line.

As I recall, "Mr. Takashi" is the equivalent to Mr. Johnson, Herr Schmidt, Senor Garcia, etc. Any fluff-ho... nope, can't type it. But it should be easy enough to plaster over any continuity cracks that show up later :)

I thought so as well, that Mr. Takashi was the Japanese equivalent of Mr. Johnson.  Unless there really is a Mr. Takashi in Shadowrun now.  Must be hell to have that name though.  :)

Tanaka is also commonly used as Johnson for the Japanacorps. I don't see any need to make a big deal about it. It isn't like we're talking about THE sheep...

Sometimes it can be handy...

While tooling around in Europe our group discovered Lofwyr had standing reservations under Herr Brackhaus for several posh restaurants and clubs in different cities. Imagine it was so nobody knew when or where he might turn up.

Our face must have been feeling a bit cheeky and took to turning up at some of these spots with a date in tow, taking the Herr Brackhaus reservation. Now these kind of places even celebrities have to fight tooth and nail to just get onto a list, thus impressing his date with his 'connections' to breeze them in right to a table.

As most did not know exactly what Herr Brackhaus looked like plus most would not dream of someone passing themselves like this he got away with it for a good while.

At least until the day the Big L and Herr Bracky turned up for a meeting right in the middle of the face's meal with a leggy redhead from the Tir.

Sure do miss that guy....

Anyway, sometimes it might open doors. Just make sure to have an exit strategy should the real guy turn up.

... okay, this I like.  And considering our favorite S-K contact from Missions Seasons 4 and 5, Simon Andrews, I think Lofwyr would as well.  I see it going kind of like this:

Lofwyr: "Reservation for Brackhaus."
Maitre'd: "I ... you seem to already be here, sir."
L: "Really.  Well, by all means, let us go speak to me."
*is brought to the table*
L: "Herr Brackhaus?"
Face: "Yes?"
L: "How fascinating.  I am Herr Brackhaus as well."
F: "I ... I, uh, I, um ..."
*Face, then date, scramble out from their seats; Lofwyr points to the floor, basically ordering the guy to freeze in place. If he doesn't, Lofwyr makes the point stick with a quick and subtle 'Control Actions'.  The maitre'd gestures, and the table is cleaned completely up and re-set for Lofwyr and associates.  Lofwyr settles into place, elbows on the table, leaning forward a little, fingers folded together as he eyes the Face.*
L: "You have two choices, now.  Experience what Mr. Hobbes described as life - "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short" - or work for me.  Exclusively.  You'll receive an address shortly; you can be there at six-thirty prompt tomorrow morning, or ..."  He tilts his head meaningfully, and turns his attention away from the Face, effectively dismissing him.

Granted, the scenario could remove him from player control, but .... :)

Well, with Andrews I think it was more that Lofwyr wanted to get dibs on the first Tskrang, since the obsidimen are already taken. But yes, I can definitely see Lofwyr wanting to make use of someone who had the audacity to try and pull that off. Except that, knowing Lofwyr, he wouldn't walk in 'by accident'.

I think Loffy is about the only one of the Greats who wouldn't flat out kill the guy.  You will be punished (like the 'work exclusively for me' thing), but I think Loffy can appreciate someone who has to balls to try that.

Lets go international.
Mr. Takashi and Tanaka are just equivalent of Johnson, so how about other countries. Is there any history about this particular name, or it is just damn popular.
Like,... i.e. Poilsh Kowalski. But it would be just silly

Actually have seen a Mr. Kowalski in Poland while ...  visiting the sites.

In Italy you may run into a Mr. Rossi or Mr. Russo. Try to time your meet around a mealtime so you can enjoy some good eats and wine before settling down to discussing biz.

Lofwyr isn't the only one, in my mind. He's just the only one who has a very famous and well-known alias. Hestaby would probably get a kick out of it. Damon or Perianwyr would probably challenge them to a drinking contest, with harsh penalties for the loser (one guess who that would be). Big D would have had fun with it, as well. You would have paid for it in spades, no matter which one of them it was, but you'd be alive. Ghostwalker, Ryumyo, or Lung? You're dead. And I pity the fool who has the gall to impersonate Aden or Arleesh.

From above, Schmidt is non-SK German (or attempting to look that way), while Garcia is Aztlaner (don't know about other Spanish-speaking places). Once upon a time I had a canon cite for those two (as well as Sendaz's Kowalski, I think), but I'm old and my memory has faded.

Shadowrun wiki still list the following alternate Johnson names:

◾ Herr/Frau Schmidt - in Germany - i.e. the Allied German States
◾ Herr Keller - in Switzerland
◾ Herr or Doktor Nowak - in Austria
◾ Mr. Smith or Mr. Jones - in Great Brittain
◾ Mr. Tanaka - in Japan
◾ Mr. Wu - in China (including Hong Kong)
◾ Mr. Kim - in Korea
◾ Mr. Khan - in Pakistan and Afghanistan
◾ Monsieur Dupont - in France (outdated - in the 2070ies French Johnsons use various pseudonyms like Martin, Leblanc, Beaumont, Sinclair or Noël)
◾ Pan Jonáa - in Czech Republic
◾ (Herr) Kowalski - in Poland
◾ Meneer Janssen - in the United Netherlands (VNL)
◾ Senor Fernandéz - in Spain

It's not like there is a set rule, just so long as the name is fairly generic for the region.
