This may seem like a silly question, but why wasn't Prometheus Engineering mentioned in the Stolen Souls as possible player with AI/Nanite issues?

Quote from: 4th Ed The Rotten Apple:Manhatten Pg 28 (WizKids circa 2009
Beyond their materials studies, Prometheus has expanded their small line of drones to include several micro-drones. They have made several recent advances in the cybernetics and telemechanics fields. Several virologists and microbiologists have joined the research think-tank to support their cross-discipline approach to new technologies. Within the shadows, the laboratories inside their corporate headquarters have been targeted for numerous extractions. The structure of the building lends itself well towards layered security, with the outer ring serving as administrative offices and the core being research labs.

> Last year, Prometheus contracted several matrix jobs to collect e-ghosts and developing AIs. With their continued research into smart nanites, it’s not that far of a leap for them to investigate programs which have developed self-awareness.
>Netcat

>Beyond AIs, there is current research into nanite behavioral processes. Nanites lack the processing power to respond with human intelligence, but learning appears feasible.
> Plan 9

Now flash forward a few years to Stolen Souls and you won't find anything mentioned about Prometheus as one the players in this field.  Further it is barely touched on in the New York section of the e-book.

Now we are not saying they might have been the source of CFD, but they were certainly on a path toward something.

Did someone overlook this bit when working up the writeup for Stolen Souls, because this seems like it would have tied in well to the CFD storyline, if even just offering more places to research/dig around in.....

Maybe they were bought out by NeoNET?

Maybe, but they are still listed as being a Double A Corp in Stolen Souls (SS pg 105), just nothing really mentioned about this line of research in SS.

Which given the whole song and dance about AIs / E-ghosts and nanites one would have thought someone would have mentioned them in passing at least since they were pretty much messing with exactly this.

So maybe they did sell on the research side, but stills seems odd.

Check the writer's credits.

I'm willing to bet beers to donuts they are different. Remember, SR has a vast and eclectic history that is almost impossible for all the freelancers to keep track of...
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

*slides the box of a dozen assorted Hot-Fresh Krispy Kreme donuts to Reaver*

Got it in one.. totally different writers.

And that is a good point, I imagine it must be a bit of a nightmare tracking all the pieces even though this wasn't really that old a piece.

Think I may work this into the campaign as another bit to do a run on...

Rotten Apple is set in October 2072. Prometheus was doing that in 2071, during Emergence, along with everyone else in the world with the balls and minimal capabilities to do so.

Since then and leading into late 2075, perhaps it just proved unwise to continue dabbling in a field that the great dragon head of a AAA's R&D operations had a personal interest in, and had since invested considerable resources, beyond whatever is left and referenced in Stolen Souls. Perhaps they were a one-hit wonder that hit a brick wall because their research went down the wrong path.

Oops.

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Silly spambot....  if you are going to try and pass off some line as your own, at least put it in a different thread. :P

awww its so cute, it thinks its people...

Why do people even waste their smart spam bots time here? What do they hope to gain?

As for the topic at hand i second/third the idea that this was simply something lost in the writing cracks and use it to fuel all of our 5th ed CFD related conspiracy theories ;)

This is ... spooky.

A spambot resurrects a thread about CFD that has direct relevance to "Battle of Manhattan" just after its release!

Plan 9 would have field day with this!
"His name is Sterling. He’s an ex-pat Brit making a living as a fixer and a hacker in Metropole. He’s a rare blend of upstanding and fun...(so) listen to his experience."
