Do we know which 2 commlinks were bricked? Looking back, it appears that the Elf bricked a Firewall 4 commlink, which I think was one of the two hunters that stayed awake long enough to fire their shotguns. Reggie was the first to go down with a taser to the brainbox, if I recall. Was Reggie's commlink bricked before combat began or can we look at his without having to repair it?

The two bricked Comms were Device Rating 3 and 4. Reggie's comm was the Fairlight Caliban, and wasn't bricked.

All in due time ;) I've made all the necessary rolls to get access, so I'll have that info shortly.

When APB eventually cracks the comms, which won't be until after you arrive wherever you're going if she repairs the two comms first, she'll get the following information.

The four men are all salarymen from Denver, who work on the PCC side for an AA rated sports/hunting supply company called Any Gear Inc, similar to Any Mountain or REI in the modern day United States.

Reginald Aimes
Kenjamin Costa
John. C McIntire
Howard Talltree

Reggie was the regional manager for a good chunk of the PCC. Kenny was the manager of a specific store in Denver. John and Howard were employees of Kenny. John was in sales, Howard was in human resources. This information becomes immediately evident from checking their comms from the SINs they broadcast, which also effectively contain their business cards.

When you start digging into their comms, you find that Reggie, Kenny and John were all married. Howard was a bachelor. Reggie and John both have children. John a young daughter, while Reggie has two pre-teen sons. They all have a number of pictures of their families, as well as numerous hunting trips they've apparently gone on. You find a number of pictures in Howard's comm of the Horned Bear while it was still alive.

Digging into their messages and such, you'll find plenty of discussions of work, the workings of Any Gear that will have no real meaning to you, discussions with each other as well as other friends over their favorite sports teams, hunting and other hobbies, and interactions between each of them and their families. Reggie, at least, appeared to have been going through a divorce, and both of his kids hated him. John and Kenny seemed to have very happy family lives, on the other hand.

Looking at Reggie's comm specifically, you will find some info on Vinny, or as his contact info in Reggie's comm lists him, Vinny "The Bear" Verontesse. The picture Reggie has for him is a photo of Reggie standing next to a man easily twice his height, built like a refrigerator and with copious amounts of body hair. He's a troll, and probably a changeling at that, and you can easily tell why people call him the Bear. He certainly looks like one.

You also find a message from Reggie to Vinny, which was sent three hours ago. It says he's caught a horned bear and is on his way to Aspen. He expects to be there by 2 AM, and asks Vinny where he wants it. Vinny responds with an address to meet him in Aspen around 2.

You can get Vinny's commcode, and when you search for the address, you find that its a construction yard near the far edge of the city, past the residential area and on the opposite side of one of the snow peaks.

If any of you decide you have Mafia knowledge, or any other knowledge related to organized crime, you can roll it to find out more about Vinny Verontesse.

Just to be clear, the information about Vinny "The Bear" Verontesse, including the meet time and the address, is available now (as opposed to 20 minutes from now) because Reggie's Fairlight Caliban was not bricked and it is a relatively fast process to slap MARKs on the comm and extract that info. Is that correct?

Who wants to call? I don't have any other suggestions to make at the moment, although we're missing some voices on the matter.

If she hacked it first, yes, she could have that info already. I'm pretty sure martinchaen said APB would hack them after fixing the bricked ones, though, which will take another 15 minutes or so, by which time you will already be wherever you are going.

Seriously though, where are you guys going?

I guess we don't know. We haven't uncovered a lot of valid destinations. Chino's behind the wheel so he's in charge by default.

I guess The Masked Woman will try to remember if she knows of any place to lay low:

Area Knowledge: 1 hit (rolled 1 die too many; didn't account for stun damage modifier)

Looks like things are still a bit fuzzy up in the old noggin'.

Edit: Added roll
2nd Edit: Corrected result

Wait, the drive is supposed to take 45 minutes (at least to get to Aspen); I'm only spending 15 + 15 + ~4 = 34 minutes to finish my Matrix search, repair the two comms, and then up to 6 seconds to place my marks. What happened to the last 10 minutes?

In any case, APB will indeed be restoring the two comms that's been bricked to functional order before sleazing her MARKs.

As for where we're going, I have no clue. Aspen is as good a destination as any as far as I'm concerned; I've no issue with trying to find a back alley or something to ditch the car in so we don't have to walk from a campground outside the city into the city.

Really, we have no plan at this point, and APB is busy with other things so won't really have much input for now.

If you're driving really slow, sure. Aspen was 27 kilometers from your starting point, so you'd have to be averaging around 20 miles an hour for it to take that long. The weather is bad, and some of the turns require slow speeds, but that's pretty slow for an empty highway.

Ah, I thought you said 27 miles. And to be fair, conditions aren't exactly stellar, so worst case we can pull over at a campground and wait until APB finishes her work. Anyone see any problem with this?

Also, what time is it, approximately? Vinnie expected Reggie at 2am, right?

It is currently around 1:10 AM. If you intentionally go slow and take 45 minutes to get to Aspen, you'll arrive by 1:55 AM. If you hadn't hacked Reggie's car, you can calculate that he would have reached Aspen by 1:30 at the speed they were averaging when you stopped them, so he was planning a 30 minute delay somewhere in there.

I don't see any issues with martinchaen's approach. There's no harm in going slowly, especially given Chino's driving record (zing!).

Alternatively, people could start spending their Knowledge Skill points on something relevant. I already blew mine on fluff and dicepools where I only get 1 hit.

Ace can speak with Vinny if no one else volunteers. We just need to decide what we want from him (in addition to a place where we can lay low anonymously), and what is the total nujen we can spend on it, because I believe we have very limited resources.

@Ryo: I decided to take the Area Knowledge: Denver at 2 points as a Street Knowledge, and will try to remember any place that is fitting for meeting someone of Reggie’s paygrade.
INT(3) + Area Knowledge: Denver(2) [Mental(5)] (5d6.hits(5)=0)
Wow, nuff.

Wow, these knowledge rolls are not doing so hot.

Let's just say that you guys are driving slow enough for APB to finish hacking. martinchaen can go ahead and post IC about finding the info on Vinny, then you guys can decide if you're gonna call him and what you're gonna say.

So far, none of your knowledge checks tell you much on where to hideout. The Masked Woman realizes that the chances of finding a good place to lay low in Aspen during the ski season isn't great. It's a small city, and the tourist traffic is fairly high this time of year. The weather also makes it perilous to try and hide out far from the city limits, so you're unlikely to find good shelter unless you're in the middle of town.

The Masked Woman is sufficiently paranoid to cast Detect Enemies (Extended) following the announcement of the device in hidden mode.

Spellcasting @ F4 = 4 hits
Soak 4 Drain = 6 hits, no drain

That would be effective out to Force * Magic * 10 meters = 180 meters.
