Ok, folks, here we go, the official OOC thread for OLD JACK CITY-REDEMPTION

Please only post here if you're one of the following folks:
1- Ryo as Baba Yaga, Aging street sam
2- Laereth as Athena, Noob anti-mage
3- Koshnek as Zippy, Deranged wheel man
4- Reyjinn as Hornet, Former DA and brains of the operation
5- Someone as Hazmat, Mystery character to be added at a later time (mwa ha ha)

we're gonna be using orokos for the rolls as I'm already familiar with that site.

If yall don't mind, posting your characters here first thing would help me out a BUNCH

Here's some basic info on the main large gangs in the area.

1- Red five: a go gang from the atlantic beach area, They're mainly about extortion, smuggling, and mayhem for the sake of fun. Wear red X's and talk in star wars lingo. has no "official" leadership, but a guy who calls himself "Grand Moffuckin' Tarkin" seems to have a lot of pull with the rest of the squad. moreso than most, probably just cause he has the biggest balls.
2- Krubb Force: a primarily goblin gang from the emerson/phillips highway area. Drugs, gambling, prostitution. No identifying markers, but they only speak or'zet, and with a heavy local dialect, so non-members are fairly easy to root out. Locals ONLY. headed up by an aging ork called twine. He's smarter than he is ruthless, which is considerable. He runs the group almost like a business and so has several lower ranking officers as well as division heads and project managers.
3- Dixie Sisters Gang: A largely human inbred family run gang in the westside. Specializes in drug manufacture, manufacture and modification of illegal gear, chop shops, etc. All keep Green bandanas somewhere on their person. headed up by Jolene and Tammy Dixie, two hardcore old human ladies, chromed to bejeezus and mean as hornets.
4- Hermanos: An all awakened and spanish speaking gang that runs riverside efficiently and with nearly no violence. They're all about protection rackets, gambling, and extortion. run by complete democracy with no leaders of any sort.

Unknown by anyone outside gang circles, but suspected by some who care in police and the media, there has been a somewhat official gang truce in effect for almost 10 years now, with profits soaring for everyone involved.

As was mentioned earlier, there is very little info for jacksonville florida published in shadowrun, so if there's anything about the city you can't learn from google-maps that you'd like to know, feel free to ask and we'll figure something out, but please, for my own ease of book keeping, please dont post until everyone has had a chance to post their characters (except hazmat. You know who you are. please don't post here until we throw you in, eh? I dont wanna spoil nothin for anyone, cool?)

Also, here's my first question for yall.
Do yall wanna do a couple milk runs first, just so you can get in the habit of working together as a team? Or would you rather just jump right into the meat of it?

== Description ==
Zippy is taller than your average human, and his long red hair is dreadlocked. He wears his beard close to his face which doesn't quite yet show its age. Overall, he comes off as a mix of a well maintained wild man. His jeans have natural holes of various sizes, and his dark black tshirt has long since faded lighter from the sunlight. During missions or while biking, Zippy always dons his biker armor and helmet.

He has a kind face and friendly demeanor, but most people are uneasy around him. Zippy often seems very intense, and even when speaking with you sometimes he might be looking behind you or above you, or he may even be staring very intently at your nose.

Zippy isn't very strong, but he reacts quickly and gracefully.

== Background ==
Zippy has seen so many things during his life, and not all of them have even been real. Or were they? Sometimes he can't be so sure, but most of the time he has been. Maybe.

He was given up for adoption in Georgia, so he never knew his parents. Zippy was never quite right in the head, and he ended up a lifer in the system. The other kids didn't interact with him much, so when Zippy was old enough to survive on his own he would often go days without returning to the orphanage. He would spend his time looking for new things and seeking out the truth behind rumours he hard heard. Sometimes such truths can even earn you a little cred in the right, or wrong, ears.

He grew to love vehiciles and especially bikes, so he saved every nuyen he could until his18th birthday. That was the day he bought his first dirt bike and friend, Growlie. He knew his time at the orphanage was up and that he had to rely on his self from that point on. Growlie was good company and talked to him much more than any of the other kids did, so Zippy was very happy with his life.

Of all the voices Zippy hears, he listens most intently to one he refers to as the Voice. The Voice is curious and clever, traits the two share. Sometimes Zippy wonders if maybe the Voice is somehow a part of him because he cannot shut the Voice out or ignore it like he can the others. He loves the Voice however, and he would never try to ignore it.

The Voice led Zippy around much of the CAS, and the two eventually set up shop at the beach on the outskirts of Jacksonville a few years ago. Truly it was a drekhole of a spot but a paradise for a madman. He has kept Growlie in good repair over the course of his life, but he has acquired several more friends during his stay in Jacksonville. He and his "Family" have plenty of room at his beachside "resort," and Zippy doesn't intend to wander the CAS any more as long as he can stick around Jacksonville.

A bit over a year ago the Voice grew quite insistent that Zippy head out into the desert immediately. It said that there was something interesting there, and that it would be lost if we didn't leave soon. Zippy hopped into Bronco, his Gopher, and made his way through the desert. He drove aimlessly forwards except when directed otherwise by the Voice.

That was when Zippy met Athena. Zippy asked the girl how she was, but she obviously wasn't in any condition to speak. It didn't really matter though. Zippy talked enough for both of them. The Voice assured him that this was the interesting thing Zippy was looking for.

Athena didn't seem too interesting. She seemed dead. Almost. He wasn't so sure dead things are overly interesting. Mostly smelly.

However, Zippy listened to the Voice anyways and took Athnea back home to meet the rest of his family. When Zippy made it home, he helped the girl inside and let her sleep in his bed after she had eaten a little food. He let her explain everything that happened to her the next day.

Zippy had always been very kind, and his aversion to people tends to be more from their discomfort and unease around him than anything he might feel towards them. Her story, her life, moved him. Although their stories were vastly different, he knew what it was like to be alone as a child. She might have been born ok, but she was a little broken inside too. "She" could be fixed though...

His affection for the little girl only served to prod his curiosity forward. Zippy never could avoid a mystery. Who was this girl's mother, and was she even still alive? Zippy cared about Athena, but he knew that he wouldn't be able to look after a child properly. He just couldn't. He was not like other people. He needed to find her mother.

The two made rounds to the orphanages in the city. It turned out that most orphanages don't care much about what happened fourteen years ago...especially not what happened to an orc child fourteen years ago. The one's who did care were reluctant to speak to a crazed elf and a broken orc. Zippy decided they needed to go talk to a friend.

Bobby was the brother of Zippy's mechanic Juan. Athena and Zippy met up with Bobby at Juan's and asked him to figure out who Athena's mother was and where she could be found. There were a lot of orphanages to search, and more of the children were orc than not. It took several weeks, but Bobby found the name. Baba Yaga.

Bobby was scared when he gave us the information. He told us to be careful, that this Baba Yaga was a badass and not someone you piss off. Zippy didn't really pay much attention to anything he said except the words Baba Yaga and the information on where to contact her.

Zippy tracked her down to a diner where she supposedly meets up with one of her contacts. The place was kinda dark..and filled with various smokes. No one asked questions here. He looked around for a minute until the Voice told him to turn around. That's when he saw Baba Yaga in the corner across the room.

Zippy smiled, waved at her and happily yelled out, "Baba Yaga!" He might have died then, but Baba Yaga must have seen something kind and honest in his eyes and face. Maybe she saw the orc girl just behind him before she could shoot Zippy. Zippy was unconcerned regardless. He doesn't sweat the small things.

The two spent the day and much of the night with Baba Yaga in that little diner. She seemed taken aback by the fact that her daughter was standing in front of her. Zippy got her contact info, and returned home with Athena. He felt like he could trust Baba Yaga, but she wasn't ready for a daughter yet. Baba would need time.

Athena is always welcome at Zippy's home, and so is Baba Yaga.

== Concept ==
Crazed "old" elf driver adept. Zippy is old for a human, but he is an elf and his face hasn't even aged yet.

I think running a practice/trial/milk run first would be a good idea. It's not really that unblievable. Sometimes someone just needs something simple done :p. Of course, it's not always really so simple...

Background

In the old days, they called her Valkyrie. She remembered her youth being like a whirlwind, living hard and fast, ever since she entered the shadows over 20 years ago. She never thought she'd live very long, and she acted like it. Orks didn't have much of a lifespan anyway, and she wanted to have fun in the time she had. Drugs, sex, and adventure were what got her through the day, and man did she love to fight. Wasn't hard making a living busting heads, and she constantly worked on honing her skills, and getting the gear she needed to have an edge over everyone else. She started taking Jazz when she was only 15. She wouldn't be able to tell you when she could no longer stop.

She never thought she'd be the type to settle down, and she went through men about as often as one would change the oil in their car, but that all changed when she met the man who would end up being the father of her daughter. He was a troll, and he knew how to make a big burly ork like her feel downright dainty, and he treated her like a princess. They ran the shadows together, and were essentially inseparable for years. They never actually got married, but they might as well have been.

But not everybody gets a happy ending and things, well... She doesn't like to talk about what happened to him. The important details are that he's not around anymore, and all she has to remember him by is his old sword. Then she got the surprise of her life when she realized she was pregnant. She honestly hadn't thought that was possible, after a freak with a cyberleg punted her in the gut a few years before.

She was on the straight and narrow for the few months she carried her baby. She even managed to go without taking a single hit of Jazz, though she doesn't know how she managed it. When her daughter was finally born, she was just physically and emotionally spent. She was still grieving her father, and didn't think she had it in her to raise a baby on her own, so she gave her up for adoption and tried to put the past behind her.

The years went by and time was cruel. At some point she had stopped being young and beautiful. Maybe it was just age, or maybe it was a lifetime of getting into fights, but her features had become hardened, and she had become colder. Some punk kid called her an old crone in her early twenties, and she broke his skull for it. But after that, she embraced the identity, and started calling herself Baba Yaga. A few big jobs over the next decade and suddenly she was something of a shadow celebrity. She had cultivated a persona of being an unapproachable hardass, as terrifying to encounter as the witch she named herself after, and it helped in her line of work to have people piss themselves when they heard your name. But it did her no favors when it came to connecting to people.

That became a problem when a little runt of an ork girl with eyes that she hadn't seen in 16 years approached her one day and claimed to be her daughter. She didn't know how to react, but she also didn't want to turn her away again. She had always wondered what had happened to the girl she had given away, and regretted her decision to leave her behind. But she didn't want to be a mother then.

And she hasn't the slightest clue how to start being one now.

Athena.

Born no name. While adoption agencies vet prospective candidates very well, it is easy enough in the 21st century to look like a healthy, happy, family. Being an Ork, she was left in the care system with no one to adopt her until almost 2 years old. Most human parents were not looking for an Ork child, most certainly not an ugly one. That changed when a human family showed an interest. They seemed pleasant and the care system was happy to get rid of what they had thought would be a lifer. And soon after the paperwork was finished, she was placed into a nice happy car seat in a soccer mom van and whisked off to her new life with her blanket and teddy bear (provided by the orphanage she was at).

She doesn't remember any of this, or the drive through the mountains, through the forests, a few stops to drop off the human mom, pick up some supplies and continue on. Eventually, the van stopped at what appeared to be a camp far outside of Jacksonville. The camp was in a heavily wooded area and semi militant in design and pretty much content. The dog was unloaded and so was she. They both went to the same place. A kennel in the back where she was to live. Food was dumped into a trough and she was treated like an animal for months. Other children were brought in and as time went on, the number grew until the dogs had to be moved out and into their own kennel. It required little upkeep on their captors part, and as soon as a child started to show co-ordination, they were moved off for indoctrination. This wasn't complex. Horrific videos of hate crimes and propaganda delivered via BTL. Left on until the bile would rise up to vomit. But sooner or later, it became just an acidic taste in your mouth. Shortly after, you didn't even need to grit your teeth. Some were even smiling at the end of the regimen. Enjoying the scenes of gore and violence.

Next steps included handicapping fully grown orks and trolls. Hamstringing them and telling them that if they make it back to civilization they were free. 5 year old children were sent to hunt them, find them, kill them. And then given a treat. Barely able to speak, they were given things like cupcakes, toys, hot food. Their masters were always affectionate. You couldn't be a responsible pet owner without showing affection. That all changed when a visit to the camp by prominent members of the policlub put her on the raidar. They made regular visits to purchase these children after the training.

It seems her talent was recognized. They were able to discern she was awakened. They scooped her up as quickly as they could, not telling the slavers why. A great deal for them. However, because of her upbringing, she was essentially untrainable until she was able to communicate and read. She was placed in classes with others of her own kind. taught to read, write, speak. Given a room and training started at an early age. Her talents were brought out early. Forced out with trauma. Pathways opened through spiritual tearing instead of natural growth. She was taught to subdue magic. Unravel, Unbind, Dispel, Banish. Then assigned a mage to protect. During formal hunts she wore a collar. She was even good at it. If she was really good, they even let her kill...

With her own space and some freedom to move around her knew home, she met Georgie. All the girls knew Georgie. If you gave him something, he would bring you something. That something would depend on what you gave him. She gave, and soon he was bringing books to read and such. Her favourites were books on Mythology. She decided on a name for herself. Athena.

At about 14 and a half or so, Athena became pregnant. It was bound to happen the way they were fooling around by then. It seems Georgie gave her something back. Georgie knew what that meant. He would die if they found out. She couldn't begin to show. He knew that. In a panic, he secreted her out in a box of supplies. He drove out as far off her route as he could without arousing suspicion and dropped the box off. As he lowered it from his truck, he whispered "Your free now." Without even opening the box, he left. He did not tell her where she was or how she could get back. He honestly hoped she would die. But a girl raised in a dog kennel is a fighter...

She spent what felt like weeks in the desert. She ate what she could, drank what she could. At some point, in a delirious, sun stroked fever, she realized her baby was gone. Weary, starving, and quite certain she was dying, she gave up. She sat down, back against rock and solid earth beneath her. Her face pock marked and scarred, lips cracked and bleeding, she sat down to die. She wanted so bad for this to be the end. The rock lent her strength, it felt good to have something solid. Something to lean on. Something unyielding, that would always be there. Not ask her to do anything. Support. Unconditionally. She made her way to her feet, using the stone to help her up. The shade from the rock offered respite as she moved rock to rock, each supporting her. Slowly her footing became more sure. Scrub growing in the shade sheltered small animals and sometimes water. She ate grubs under rocks. But most importantly, she picked a direction. Using the shade of the mountain to find the best path, she picked a direction and walked. She wasn't certain when the land changed. It was gradual in reality, but looking down, applying the will to place one foot in front of the other, she did not notice. Walking until she collapsed, the ground was cold underneath her instead of hot. After a time, a voice "Are you okay?". A silhouette against the sun. Pointy ears? And then sleep.

Hmm, I'm good either way with regards to run type. Might not be a bad idea to do one or two shorter runs to get into the swing of things, build momentum and so on.

I think running a practice/trial/milk run first would be a good idea. It's not really that unblievable. Sometimes someone just needs something simple done :p. Of course, it's not always really so simple...

So that's three votes for the milkrun to get the feel for things. laereth aint voted yet, but the result would be the same, so we'll move on.

If it's a truck stop, Baba Yaga is wearing her Wild Hunt gear, with her Ballistic Mask tucked in an inside pocket of the jacket. She's got at least two hits of Jazz on her, and her Savalette Guardian in the included concealed holster, loaded with regular ammo. She's also got at least two spare clips of regular ammo in her pockets. Her Remington Roomsweeper is in its holster at the small of her back under her jacket. She has no spare ammo for it in her pockets.

She has the Renraku Sensei as her public commlink that's on and broadcasting her fake SIN, while the Fairlight Caliban built into her mask is what she uses to communicate with the team and for all shadowrunner purposes. It's always either off or running silent. When she's not wearing it, she's connected to it wirelessly through her Datajack, allowing her to send and receive messages with it thanks to her DNI. The trodes built into the helmet let her connect to it while it's wirelessly off, assuming she's wearing it. All her gear is either wirelessly off or slaved to the Fairlight Caliban.

She got to the truck stop in her Ford Americar. She's got her HK XM30 in the trunk, along with a bag of the spare parts to convert it to other weapons and other ammo. The Highland Forged Claymore is also in the trunk, in its quick-draw sheath.

She didn't bring her nice clothes, nor did she expect to need an MMG for this meet, so she left that gear at home.


Perception Rolls: By my count I get +4 on this (2 specialization, 2 vision enhancement) or did you mean I get an additional +3? Is Baba specifically looking for something? I'll roll with that assumption, and if I'm wrong, just disregard the last few dice on the roll.
