Mercedes shivers despite herself and grimly looks at the door. Pulling out her taser, she solemnly nods that she's ready.

[OOC:  Going to drop Multitasking, analytics and a level of  improved ability - hacking.]

As if walking through a toxic wasteland without a respirator wasn't enough, arriving now at this old church made Brian's headache double.  He was finding it hard to concentrate and just as hard to restrain himself with all the speed in his system.  He'd spent a good portion of the walk chuckling as he tuned his radar to see through Bessie Mae's clothes.

"Well, I'd hate to head off down the Road to Eternity without Little Red Raining-hood polishing my silver, but I suppose that part's already past us...  Could you guys hold off on walking straight into the lion's jaws with nothing but a song in your heart?  At least until I freaking check this pit out first?  It's giving me a damn headache watching you bumble into everything like Bliss-heads.  Keep an eye on the crazy, possessed hooker for me, please."

Brian made a quick pass around the building, checking through the walls to see what he could find out about the place before they went in.  He kept a specific eye out for air vents or any other alternate means of ingress.

Do we want me to go in through a window or some other type of stealth method?

@B.B.:

For some reason you find it rather difficult to lecture your team, walk towards the side of the church and chew betel at the same time....you've never thought about it before....usually you'd also be monitoring the auction house on Planes  of Eldoran in a little side window while texting JLocke.....and just as you think that and are feeling really weirded out, you realize...damn, you have a lot of shit running on you're AR overlay desktop....so much so that it's freakin' confusing the hell out of you.  You click on "hide all" and all of a sudden a sensation that you've never ever experienced takes a hold.

 Silence.

Is this what it's like?  You look around and despite the nervous tense expression on your teamates faces due to the uncertainty of what you're all going to encounter on the other side of those church doors, they do notice something different about you.  You stop for a moment to just stand there listening to the falling rain.  It's actually quite a pretty sound.

You throw back up the essential AR windows and continue to walk around the church but suddenly freeze as you see a few huddled figures cowering away from you as you approach.  As you look closer you notice that tucked into the shadows of the side of the church you see these homeless figures trying to stay out of the rain by sitting under the gutter of the roof.  Their tattered flesh and the sharp fangs which they occasionally bare at you tips you off that they're probably street ghouls and by their body language they seem more scared of you then you could be of them.  They simply hold their ground and as soon as they see you're not approaching anymore they eventually ignore you.  It seems like these huddles of pitiful creatures might be all around the building seeking shelter.

Once B.B. gets back and we have our brief discussion She Who Walks Through Walls will say, "Well I guess there is safety in numbers so give me a second to put up a spell and we'll head on in."

Casting Sound barrier overcasting at force 4: Dice pool spell casting 4, magic 2(for spells) +2 for moon maiden =8d6
8d6.hits(5) → [3,4,5,5,3,2,6,2] = (3)
It will have a 4 meter radius around me

Drain 5DV
willpower 4 +chr 5 for 9d6
9d6.hits(5) → [5,5,1,4,5,2,2,4,3] = (3)
so I take 2P
Sigh
She Who Walks Through Walls pulls the mana through her knowing that she is pushing her powers to the limits and beyond yet again. She sets a sound barrier four meters out from the group. As she concentrates to bend the mana to her will she feels a dull pain as she manifests the barrier centering it on her chest. She sighs, and thinks to herself, "This is beginning to become all too common."

Wiping the blood from her nose she turns to B.B. and says, "Get out that medkit again. I seem to have hurt myself. We have a barrier of sound out about 4 meters. It will help us be quiet to everyone outside the bubble, but it won't effect us talking to each other inside the bubble."

@Cythia:

You begin to cast the spell but as soon as you tap the strong current of mana around you in order to gather the usual amount, a significant amount more than your used to is released.  You try to shape it and mold it in to the pattern the spell calls for but it fights your attempt to bend it.    Mercedes notices your knees buckle a little and she asks if you're ok but you know you're not.  You finally lock the last little piece together in your mind but as the mana flows through, it singes your nerves and just as the barrier of sound is set up around you you feel yourself getting nauseous.  You tell B.B. to grab the medkit and as the silence sets in, you close your eyes for a second as you lean your hands against your knees.

You turn to your left looking toward the north along the road which brought you here.  The street lamps all long burnt out and shattered.  The street is familiar, as if you'd dreamt of it already, and as the rain subsides, the clouds open up revealing a clear night sky.  As the calm settles in, the only light which illuminates the silence around you is the light of the silver moon.  Peering even deeper into the darkness of the road which brought you here you see a figure approach, it's outline draped by a delicate dear-skin robe adorned with eagle feathers and intricate bead-work.  When the figure finally approaches you, you make out the face of an elven woman and it's like looking into a mirror.  She is identical to you save for her face paint and you take a step back at the shear surprise of seeing yourself.  Then she speaks in Sioux, which you always had trouble understanding, but hers you understand perfectly.  "It is your time.  You have come to the place you were not yet ready for.  She tried to stop you," and the robed figure lifts her hand up towards the moon.  "So she sent me to take your place.  Do not fear, for in the end we are ALL one.  I am merely a temporary replacement which improves upon your design and I shall take your place until an even more powerful replacement one day can again be found to serve our lady.  Just as your time here was temporary, so will be mine.  Now run along, I have a job to do."

You stare incredulously at her, but her unwavering eyes make you bow your head.  Then you remember, the drops of moon dust...the spiders thread....you suddenly remember....a long long time ago, how your lady carefully sewed every last little eyelash to your eye-lid.  How she crafted you from pure nothingness and sent you out into a world which strives to devolve into nothingness.  You remember, and as tears roll down your eyes you run away....back up the road which brought you to this bank and shoal of Redmond....back out towards the light.  You turn around once more, and look far off towards your friends, the robed woman standing with them, all four of them facing the church.

"Walks!...are you ok?  talk to me girl..."  You suddenly awaken as if from a day dream.   Standing in front of the church, Mercedes' hand on your shoulder asking you if you're ok.  The surging astral signature still tingles at your spine.  You nod and clutch your taser a little tighter.  "Nice face paint girl, i didn't notice it on the way over here from the Pearl Tongue."  B.B. strolls back over to the group with his medkit and nonchalantly smirks, "Yeah, nice face tatts Walks, looks pretty bad-ass......but since when you start taking fashion tips from a wired two bit whore?"....B.B. chuckles a little and focuses his eyes back on the church and what the next move should be.  Mana crackles at the microscopic level in between your synapses.

[OOC: First aid:  7 logic +6 kit +4 dpb -5dpp = 12d6.hits(5) → [2,6,4,4,6,4,2,5,5,1,2,1] = (4)]

"So, gents, I tried to take a look around, but this place is packed to the gills with ghouls.  Luckily they're not feral, or they're just as spooked as everyone else about this whole business.  Doesn't matter too much to me which it is.  What matters is they're not chewing on my skinny ass right now, which is something I count as a positive.  Let's see what else we can count in the positive column?  We're all in good health.  We're going into a church, and most churches have a pretty uniform layout.  I've still got enough grenades to down a Juggernaut.  Finally, all we need is a dead elf boy's body, or enough of it to be identified."
Brian finished applying aid to Cynthia's latest nosebleed.
"In the negative column we've got, one, the high likelihood of jacked-up mind-control shenanigans, two, the fact that cannibals and mutants who would rape a dog to death for fun are scared of this craphole, and three, those first two problems count as three or four negative tallies apiece."

Mercedes chuckles, "Well, at least we have our health."

She looks up at the church and shifts her perception to the astral, trying to see if there is anything else they should worry about besides the stated concerns.

@Mercedes:

You open your sight to the astral plane and the shear brightness makes you squint.  The church glows white with passion and pain.  Now you can see clearly why you feel different, the background count of mana is overflowing your senses and making it dificult for you to even think straight.   The brightness makes it difficult to clearly see the aura's of all the ghouls huddled against the church seeking refuge from the rain, but nonetheless you see them all glowing with the brightness of dual natured beings.  On the physical plane they could be considered some of the most hidious creatures known to metahumankind, but on the astral they glow with complex vibrance that no mundane metahuman could match.  Woven into this vibrance though are the grey's black's and greens of a perpetual sadness.  Fear is their only leader, their master.  You see they have given into fear long ago and the only emotion which can take their mind off of it is a dull hunger.  You see how the bright astral beacon of the church gives them solace in a world that despises them for the abominations it thinks they are.   You notice that they all turn and look at you right away as you too are now dual natured as you look through your astral eye.  They still opt for staying dry, but one of them who looks particularly sentient and very curious about you slowly comes out into the rain from the side of the church.  He approaches very cautiously.  You notice that the emotions in his aura are quite a bit more organized than many of the other infected in his group.

 @Everyone:

He looks at the astral signature of the sound barrier rather curiously and then decides to enter it and upon seeing that you still haven't shot or tased him, he speaks in a soft voice that belies the mindless feral nature stereotypically associated with those of his kind.  With a wispy rasp tinged with a light CAS accent he speaks hesitantly at Bessie Mae.  "Might you have a small treat for ol' Kilby?!"  His eyes light up with anticipation and the prostitute walks over to him, reaches in the pocket of her red rain coat and pulls out a handkerchief soaked with dry blood; the whole time with no expression on her face whatsoever.  Kilby opens up the handkerchief in her outstretched hand and you see very distinctly a severed toe caked with blood and you can still tell that the toenail is painted.   Kilby quickly pops the small appendage into his mouth and crunches on it with pure enjoyment.  "A little old Bess..... but tasty none-the-less!".  She puts the handkerchief back in her coat and just stands there again.

Kilby then looks toward the group "She's a little bit slow this one, I think her wires need a bit of tweaking..... but Ollie always is a real pal and has her bring me a little something fresh.... Alright, let's see here, now comes the part where i'm supposed to tell you....let's see......"   He fumbles through the pockets of his tattered clothing as if looking for something....and finally comes out with a balled up wet piece of paper.  You notice that as he uncrumples it there is only a smear of ink on it and if there used to be any writing, it has long since washed off.  He opens it up as if reading off it with his cateract covered eyes wide open....clearing his throat...."Here we go...ok i'm supposed to tell you.....'Your playful journey ends at these humble doors,
who would have thought salvation lay in the'.......wait, did she.....did she already say this.....I knew it, I never get any of the fun!!  Ollie always cuts me out...never wants to give me any responsibility!!...oh well....my there's a whole lot of you...usually we don't have so many winners....well he should be expecting you so don't wanna keep him waiting....and besides don'tcha wanna claim your prize!?"
  He motions towards the front doors.  "Don't be scared of these people standing around they're harmless for the most part....wouldn't wanna touch them though if you don't wanna end up like me.....or worse...like them".  He chuckles slightly and then prances on all fours over to the church doors about 10m away.....they used to be made out of glass, but now all that is left are a few shards sticking out of a metal frame which he opens nonetheless as if you couldn't just walk right through and motions in a polite fashion for you to be his guest and enter.

Seeing as we aren't going to sneak up on anyone, and the ghouls seem to be willing to leave us alone She Who Walks Through Walls will drop her sound barrier. "Well I guess it is time to go and see what we can find."
