While we are "locked down" are we allowed to visit the van freely? Or should we move the obelisk to one of our rooms?

You can get back and forth to the the cave, but can't get outside.

I was under the impression that the Madame didn't want us to bring anything in that could be tracked. I figured that would include the obelisk.

I'm up for discussing things or fast-forwarding until dinner and afterward (assuming we all go to the library after dinner). I may or may not need to revise/delete my IC post. For continuity's sake.

There's a trade-off here:

1) leave the obelisk in the cave where you won't have eyes on it but it will be better-concealed astrally (due to the surrounding earth being largely impassable on the astral), or
2) bring it into the house where you can see it but where it would be easier for an astral scout to poke his/her/its head in and find it.

I was going to say that Katsina or Ohanzee could ward the van or a room with the obelisk, which would take a few hours, but it occurs to me that Ryo gave us the Sorcery group at high ratings but didn't give us any rituals. The rules are pretty clear that rituals are learned separately from spells, as if players needed another reason not to take Ritual Spellcasting.

I'm in charge so I get my own way. Ritual Spellcasting is overshadowed enough as it is, so I say anyone with Ritual Spellcasting knows all the rituals. If the ritual is spell-specific (e.g. Curse, Prodigal Spell, Remote Sensing, Circle of Healing, Renascence) then you must know the spell you wish to ritually cast.

Sam plans on sleeping in the van with the obelisk, so we'll have eyes on it. Fear not.

Great ruling. That should probably be the default ruleset to be honest. For normal play (where players have the luxury of prepping and building their characters - which we don't here) I might restrict it a little to where you have to have a copy of the ritual handy - pay the nuyen cost but no karma cost - in order to cast it. Not sure what the nuyen cost for a ritual is, but I'd probably make them either free or at the most 500¥ (like Detection and Health spells). Considering that each ritual has a fairly steep reagent cost, it might just be better to assume their free, which brings us right back to your ruling here. Hmm. So yeah, great ruling.

However, in our case, I don't know what rituals might be useful. We could do a Ward ritual, but it takes hours to perform and lasts weeks - probably not the sort of evidence we want to leave behind and not the sort of time we want to be stationary and exposed before it takes effect. In fact, most of the useful rituals take hours to complete, so they aren't likely worthwhile for us here. We could try building a temporary lodge, which would act as a Circle of Protection, but that still takes hours and then only lasts until sunrise (or sunset, but since it's already dark...). So, unless I'm missing something, this might not be useful. I half suspect that the description for Circle of Protection might be wrong - it says it takes Force hours to perform but only lasts Force hours, while most things that last Force hours only take Force minutes to perform (and since it is so small and breaks when someone leaves, it is unlikely they meant for it to last Force weeks or days). In that case, that could then be a useful ritual.

But, barring that, I'm fine leaving it in the van. We could place a watch there if we really wanted to, but that might be a bit much - while we don't want this falling into the wrong hands, we probably wouldn't mind much if it were to "walk off". And besides, without comms, leaving a single person there to guard it might be pointless.

I'm certainly open to ideas.

Yes, that is a good summary of the situation. During a normal game, where days are the standard unit of measurement, the length of rituals is less of a factor. But for us, counting hours and minutes, they are a major commitment.

Sam plans on sleeping in the van with the obelisk, so we'll have eyes on it. Fear not.

As you wish. Sam should still come in to sign in, take a leak, and get something to eat, unless he wanted to cross his legs and eat a frozen burger patty out of the cooler.

Current time in-game is 6pm. Doc is voting to wait a couple hours. Anyone else?

Is there a bathroom in the van? if so, Sam would just as soon remain the group's only "unknown" at this point. He doesn't trust this place.

Ohanzee can probably remain awake long enough to clean up and eat, especially since he won't be casting. He gets strangely lucid when exhausted. It's likely a survival response.

There is definitely not a bathroom in the van. The vehicle with a bathroom was flipped on its side and engulfed in flames a couple hours ago.

Sam looks around and sees the cave is large enough to accommodate a couple vehicles. He wonders if it would be acceptable to urinate in the corner.

Sam suspects the proprietors would be less-than-pleased if he were to relieve himself in their parking lot.

Sam has Etiquette 1.

This may or may not be my favorite post in this entire forum right now. Ok, Sam will head inside and make himself at home. IC post incoming.

That was an excellent time to have a roll above 33%, right?

After about 20 minutes in the bathroom alone, the giant troll emerges back into the common area clean shaven, shampooed, and wearing nothing but an enormous troll-fit white terry cloth robe and a pair of matching fuzzy bath slippers. He's almost smiling as he says to whomever is present "What's the food situation like here?"

LOVE this!  Great image :)

It's taken me months, but I think I've finally worked up a personality mold for this amnesiac here. A model to base his personality off, not so much his goals and motivations, just how he expresses himself and goes about his business.

Shall I tell the group or keep it a secret?
