@ Duckdown  He looks you up and down with a look of disdain, "I see a runt-ass trog who ain't smart enough to know he's not welcome. And lil Mik knows better than to bring your kind around here for business." This guy has got to be spoiling for a fight. Every muscle on him looks like it just wants an excuse to punch you.

Arc's expression turned from confused curiosity to simply straight out confusion, trying to make sense of what the elf was talking about with little success.   Her eyebrow seemed permanently raised as she turned the bauble over, noting the silver inlays.  Finally concluding that she is unable to actually understand how the drek it works, she replaced the object on the shelf, letting out her breath in an exasperated sigh.  "Y'dont say...so what you're sayin' is  you can't really know what mojo is about unless y'know mojo, aye?  Frag, no wonder y'all Awakened don't get trusted."

With a sigh, she placed her goggles about her forehead, shrugging.  "Get me a machine or some compounds any day, those I understand.  Nneehhh....oh, hello~"  She peered into a glass display stand of some kind of short sword.  "Now this...what's this doing in a mojo shop?  Ain't this some museum piece or some drek?"

Khali nods, "Exactly. Thing is, you can't just puzzle out how it works by how it's built. It's all about the mojo they layer into the thing. That's one way to tell if some mage is blowing smoke. The first thing he should tell you is that he might not know drek about drek. The second is that even if he does, he might not be able to put it in a way you can understand. Problem is, that even saying all that, once they have a feel for what's up, they can generally handle it."

Khali notes the confused look on Arc's face, "All that just goes to say, we're in over our heads. But somebody that can sort it out might give us an edge."

@ Arc & Khali  The troll clerk steps forward then, the bracelets softly bangling on her wrists. and says, "Indeed it is. That sword is a unique piece custom crafted for Simeon Faerrel, The Black Wizard. Made of a unique blend of silver, platinum, orichalcum and stainless steel it's crafting process included layering it with several incantations and foci to increase both it's physical strength and it's ability to channel magic as a foci in and of itself. The Black Wizard used it in combat against several creatures including ghouls. Made by a master-craftsman in the image of the Sword of Goujian discovered in 1965 on an archealogical dig in China  it is the pride of the doctors private collection." She smiles at you as her hand gracefully indicates the sword and then she points to a small picture beside the sword. "There you can see an image of him wielding the sword."

"Very impressive, thank you," Khali responds to the orc. Once she leaves, Khali resumes her conversation with Arc.

"Forgot to mention, some foci make sense to the rest of us," she gestures at the sword. "As in, stick them with the pointy end."

Feathers decided the bakery was probably a little too much of a luxury and grabbed a soy-dog from a street vendor opposite, lashing it with ketchup and extra onions and washing it down with a bottle of some fluorescent green fizzy drink.
He chipped the first datasoft into his com and dumped the text-heavy reference into his AR overlay as he waited for the bus up to snohomish. He'd have to change at the central depot, but it shouldn't take more than an hour or so
The food had settled his rumbling stomach and he began to feel a bit better for it, his blood sugars had dipped due to the morning's exertions and skipping breakfast surely hadn't helped. Coughing at the exhaust fumes of the passing cars, he clipped his respirator over his mouth and slowly felt his airways settle back to normal.
He swiped his comm over the bus's pay-to-ride scanner and took a seat half way down and set about reading up on Blood Magic from the chips Nbungu had lent him

@ Feathers [Almost noon in Snohomish]  Most of the data softs were concerned with the histories of blood magic use as well as detailing it's effects and how to identify it's traces. Some of the images reminded him of historical pictures of death camps and torture victims. But others were even worse. There was a short clip that one unlucky reporter had gotten of a blood magic ritual that showed it's practicioner chanting while very carefully filleting open a troll, at least his mouth was moving in what Feathers presumed was a chant, you couldn't hear it over the trolls screams. The practicioner very carefully laid out the entrails around the trolls body, the troll still screaming. The ritual got worse, much worse after that. The datasofts had some identifiers of key ritual components for blood mages as well as likely professions for them to hide in. And actually, that was a fairly good chapter, as the datasofts confirmed what Feathers already knew. Blood magic practicioners hid. Even a whiff of suspicion was enough to send investigators down on them. There was some additional info he didn't know about identifiying traces of blood magic, but after that the data started to get redundant through the different 'softs. That, and the kid 2 seats behind him had started taking an inordinate interest in him and was chucking spit-balls at him whenever his mama wasn't looking. At least Feathers presumed it was when him mama wasn't looking. All in all it was a long 2.5hrs worth of hard seats and a bumpy road. Getting off the bus at his final stop was a relief. And looking around at the small town with forest all around it reminded him of home. Ah, there was the marker he'd been told to look for. He had almost a 1k walk to the shop from where the bus dropped him off. Best to get to it.

Arc listened intently, both to the elf she knew as Khali, and to the troll as she explained the displayed sword.  Arms were crossed, an inquisitive look on her face, nodding occasionally with feet shoulder-width apart.  At the end of the spiel, once the troll stepped away, a knowing smile crept into the breeder's face.

"ahh....so ka.  That information was enlightening to me..".. The next part she said without skipping a beat, nodding in affirmation.  "in that I know I probably ain't gonna get it, hah.  Though stick it with the pointy end...goodz but a little oldy and drek, no?  See a slotter running around with a sword, thinking either gang, SIM junkie, or mojo man...wouldn't mojoing up a piece blend in more, omae?"

The group that was there wouldn't spot it, but Arc wasn't usually one to get into mojo stuff.  Perhaps it was the recent events, but her inquisitive mind shifted to the knowledge needed at hand, picking it apart, trying to understand so she can take this thingie down.  She tapped her heel, glancing to the front desk, curious about when they'd get their answer.

@ Arc, Khali & Red  The young troll steps back, again with that soft jingle of her bracelets and turns partially to encompass Red in her message also. "The Dr will see you as soon as he's done with his current referral, although he said he could only afford you a few minutes of his time. The mage he's currently with will need additional help and the doctors afternoon will be spent with him. But, that said, since he's only able to give you a few minutes the initial consult fee will be waived and he'll let you know his fees if additional consultation is required."

The nearer he got, Feathers realised he didn't really know what the hell he was doing here.
The police were dragging their heels and although Nbungu and Feathers were competent mages, they weren't really up to the task of flushing this thing out and killing it on their own. Hell, Feathers was an old man. Last thing he wanted to do was go wading into a fight. His aching knees and sore back weren't really geared for a scrap, that was a young man's game.
Still, he'd got so far. It was pointless turning back now, maybe the 'prof would be able to call in a powerful mage's group or charter some kind of purification team or something.
He walked the rest of the way, swinging by the public toilets in the bus depot before grabbing a herbal tea to warm his hands against on the long walk up.
The leafy town pleased him, it was a welcome reprieve from the filth and grime of the downtown slums, he felt he could breathe easily, even without the respirator in place.
Flicking the audio feed off the 'trix cast of the news, he chose a classical music station to calm his thoughts and centre his mind on the meeting ahead as he strolled in the weak afternoon sunshine.
Knocking on the door to the building Nbungu had marked, he killed his music and discarded the now-empty drink container in the outside bin as he waited for an answer.

Red gives the troll a polite smile and gets to her feet, not moving over to the doctor's office just yet but getting ready to. "Thank you very much, ma'am. You've been very helpful."

@ Feathers  The troll mage that greets you as you walk into the shop looks at you and says, "Mike Turnstall?" "The prof will see you right away. You were well described sir by Nbungu." She motions you through the shop fragrant with herbs and an entire wall of small drawers labeled "Reagents" and a beautiful glass case of several pieces and into a spacious and well appointed office. A balding human male stands up, small and heavy-set with a face made jowly by age. He breaks into a smile when he sees you. "Ah, Mage Turnstall, good to meet you. Jeffrey said you had a problem I needed to help with. And if Jeffrey said I needed to help, well, I can't even imagine how serious it must be, but Jeffy is never in anything less than to his throat in trouble I've found over the years. Please, take a seat. Would you like a cup of tea? I know it must have been quite the drive to get here from Jeffy's."

Feathers smiles at the troll, bowing his head in thanks as he passes her and heads through the beautifully appointed office. It reminded him of his old study, the tall bookshelves, house plants and luxurious wooden furniture.
He snapped his mind back to the present and returned the prof's greeting.
Good to meet you too, thanks very much for seeing me at such short notice. A tea would be lovely thanks.
Yes, we've come across a problem that requires a bit of specialist expertise.
My friend Nbungu had identified you as a bit of a specialist on something that has recently reared its ugly head in my neighbourhood. Frankly I'm concerned that the police are too stretched to mount a timely response and it is my belief that it will strike again, and soon. We're both of the belief that a recent spate of murders have been by a practitioner of blood magic, as unlikely as that may be. The murders have been brazen and bold and I'm worried that the practitioner wants to demonstrate its power rather than skulk around in the shadows.

Masquerade looked to the others, as she looks around. Just being near the silver made her skin crawl a little, but not nearly as much as the the thoghts of that creature, still utterly vivid in her mind. Its touch, scent, sound and appearance. recorded into her mind. "We may need something like that sword.. If it was a gang running around, I could deal with that.. but that thing.. No." she murmered. Raven much rather enjoyed being on the end that assisted others, feeling a pull towards someone else's tragedy. so she could swoop in and collect her own shinies.

She begins unzipping her mental files of the various gangs, pulling up what information she could in her memory banks to tell the others what she knows about the most likely gang that would summon the creature.

Arc perked up as the troll returned with their answer, giving a low whistle.  "About time...can't fraggin' wait" She muttered to herself, making her way to join the rest of the group.  Now that the objective was in sight, she grew impatient again, wanting to be able to do something other than wait.  She bit her lip a bit, eyeing the display sword again as she noticed Raven wandering, hearing her musings...

"We may need something like that sword.. "

She barked out a laugh, sighing and shaking her head, clamping a palm firmly to her head.  "Hoi...all this hokey mojo drek and dusty old mojo swords...I'd feel a lot better with my piece and a few kilos of grade A boom...too much to ask, I guess~"  She shrugged, pinching the bridge of her nose as she paced around, waiting for the current meeting with the professor to end.

"Well, that is the thing about creatures like that..." she replies back. "I may not know much about it specifically... But often there are weaknesses built in. Werewolves cannot be killed except by silver bullets.. They'll piece themselves back together even after a few sticks of dynamite are stuck in them. It was true. She saw a flick about it once, about some kids who befriended some monsters.

[Redmond Barrens, Ancients turf, Seattle, UCAS. 2:18pm]

As the elf before him tries his best to look big and mean, talking all kinds of shit, Duck gets a message.

>>@Duckdown [Theresa] @@#*%65&#@#h8*#

He rolls his eyes a bit, both in frustration at his comm acting up again and at the prospect of maybe having to beat the everloving shit out of one of his sisters boyfriends homeboys. Renraku piece of crap.

<<RebootComm>>

"I see a runt-ass trog who ain't smart enough to know he's not welcome. And lil Mik knows better than to bring your kind around here for business."

He's managing to keep his tone even, but he can't keep it up forever. "Are you too frakkin thick to notice PROFIT when it's standing right in front of you? Even when it's doin its damndest not to walk the fuck away and let someone else make this jing?" He does his best to bluff the keeb: 8d6t5 3 and hopes he doesn't have to settle this with his fists, even though a large part of him would really like to.

@ Masquerade  He'd been over this list before. And her recent activities had been specifically aimed at trying to rule in the few possibilities. The trouble was, none of the current gangs had a mage that was powerful enough for this. He absolutely could say that. Even after last night, as close as he'd been to that thing, he knew for a fact that no mage currently in the gangs in The Barrens could do this. She'd love to be able to point a finger and get rid of the problem. She just couldn't.

@ Feathers  Yes, Jeffy told me. As you can guess there are no real specialists in blood magic. Everything we know, is about identifying them and the methods of killing them. Even the specialists, the "fix it with fire" boys, are only versed at identifying whether or not it is blood magic. And from that point they burn everything down to the ground. If it is a blood mage everything in your neighborhood is going to be labeled "acceptable collateral losses" I'm afraid. Normally I'd say your first order of business is to make absolutely sure that it is blood magic before reporting anything. But, when Jeffery told me of his astral response, well, I don't think further investigation will change the conclusion. So the second order of business would be to identify if this is true blood magic, or a practicioner who's summoned creature feeds off of blood. The symptoms present themselves in much the same manner. But, the solution is actually quite a bit simpler if it's the latter, as the feeding cycle of the summoned creature gives you a window of opportunity to act. If you've already reported this to the police, then that window has shrunk. But it's still a window. My question to you would be how do you want to proceed. You could, knowing what you know simply get out of the neighborhood. But, unless you want the practicioner to potentially escape with you, you can't tell anyone else at all. And that is a viable option to be honest, as you, even acting with Jeffy's help, you, can not kill this practicioner by yourself. If you have enough people willing to work with you to accomplish then, it's still only a very slim chance you'll succeed. Although, if you do, the reward is considerable, and not just in material gain. So, I will let you think. Do not be to hasty in your decision as it is far more likely you will die if you try and go up agaisnt this practicioner, even with a team. He hands you a fragrant cup of tea, a fresh oolong and then he looks at you, "Honey?"

@ Duckdown  The keebs hand twitches, and is stopped right there. "Hey, Silver, stand down man. The trog ain't meaning no harm. He be lookin' fer help just like he said. You think you're the only one that lost someone man. Take a look at him. That little girl that was killed was his NIECE. Blood is bond, word omae. My girl told me they spent all night lookin fer her, they were lookin' fer her man, an she still got kilt. You're brother man, he was grown. Tell me what chance she had, you had of stopping that thing." lil Mik has his hand on the keebs hand, his arm around him, trying hard to prevent this from becoming a confrontation. As you watch him you see the keeb fighting to hold himself in.
Your comm finally re-boots and the message plays>>Bro, when you get done talkin' ta Mik you need to go pick up mama. She wanna see Godra personally. An then after that she wanna see Zip.<<
