Hi,

First let me introduce myself.

I am new to this forum but I am no way new at running Shadowrun games. I have been GM'ing for well over 20 years and still going strong. :)

My current group of players have been together for 5 years and we've done a lot of gaming (and I mean alot).

So much so we (they) are looking for something slightly different and they have asked for a campaign based purely around a rigger shadowrun group.

So I 'm looking for tips and inspiration in writing this and so I have turned to this forum for help  :D

I'd run a short campaign only, and at least one person should probably be a Decker+Rigger for matrix protection. Anyway.

Start by making your GM judgement calls. The rules are a bit sloppy and confusing as far as Riggers are concerned. Example judgement calls are these:

- "Agility+Gunnery only for AR Remote Control, Logic+Gunnery allowed for AR Remote Control as well, Logic+Gunnery as only options for VR Remote Control as well as only option for jumped in."
- "No, Targeting penalties only apply to Active Targeting, and Passive Targeting against concealed targets. In a normal gunfight a drone does not take a -3 against a metahuman."
- "Yes, Drones and jumped-in Riggers count as normal combatants. We interpret 'use the normal combat rules' as 'they can use normal movement rules' and 'they can fire with Simple Actions'."
- "Yes, if a Drone has a Smartlink in its Camera both it and a jumped-in Rigger can get the +1 die from a Smartgun's wireless bonus."
- "Sensor replacements cost normal sensor costs, they don't require a full new array. So adding a new Sensor (or replacing an existing one if no space exists) to your default drone costs 300, not 3.000."
- "Sensor upgrades (e.g. adding Thermographic Vision to a Drone's camera) do not require replacing the entire sensor, but simply cost the normal price and can be done by any Mechanic."
- "Default Sensors are 2 Cameras and one Omni-Directional Microphone. Larger Drones/Vehicles come with extra Sensors by default, namely <...>."

Thanks for the reply.

We've pretty much had a rigger in most games I have run with the group so we have plenty of house rules :)  But your suggestions will also help.

The reason I call them judgement calls is because the rules are vague and one can argue both ways on most of them. :) I made pretty much every call of those for Missions, which does not allow houserules, and hope an official FAQ will eventually tell me how off I am. I hope not much, otherwise our Rigger is bound to quit Missions.

Well, if the whole team are playing riggers, you should look into diversifying character creation as much as possible.
Its no good having 5 riggers... its a lot better to have an adept wheelman rigger, an ork technomancer with sprite controlled drones, an elven face ares duelist rigger, an arial surveillance ace pilot etc.

Maybe you could hand out bonus skill points or bonus cash, with the intend to diversify the choice of riggers. I would definitely find it cool if the party could find room for both, mundane, adept, magicians and technomancer riggers.

That way you could have high.skill monkey adepts, machine sprites, some of those vehicle spells from street grimoire and a bazillion drones at the same time.

I run an awakened only campaign. We decided to move the special column in the priority system down one notch- which meant that at E you could become an adept, and at B you were a magician with magic 6 and 10 spells. This naturally made for stronger characters, but not as strong as prime runners. The team still has rigger/decker support and isnt hampered by "only" awakened.

Welcome Aboard!  :)

Pure rigger group? First thought I have is a Combat Biking team! Somebody came up with rules here, but I don't believe it is official.

Other thoughts would be a go-gang (or vehicle gang of some sort), Smugglers (check out Coyotes), a Fast and the Furious theme, or a hi end group of professional runners that each specialize in a separate area of rigging (drones, vehicles, ex-spider, etc.) think the Italian Job.

Good luck, sounds fun!  8)

Drone tournament! Obstacle courses, duels, battle royales, trying to hack/sabotage the competition without the judges finding out...

I'd be tempted to run them as a smuggler group. Perhaps open up the usual archetypes and make room for Air pilots + watercraft too.
As the others suggested, a wheelman-face and drone rigger/decker would certainly help round out the crew so you're not totally lacking in other skillsets

Fast and Furious

I think that sums it up well.

Drone tournament!

Yeah! Now your talking!  8)

Could also throw in a burned out mage that rigs -- or an AR based Mage Rigger that runs optical based devices in their vehicles instead of electronic (mage sight goggles, endoscope, periscope, fiber optic cable + myomeric rope, etc.) Still gives you line of site! ;)
