<<I can swing by in a bit but I've got a job come Monday mate...  It was nothin impressive just yer every day knife.  Bout the size of the ones I usually carry.  Did seem almost like it was collecting my blood before I blacked out.  I was worried about blood mojo, think you can help me out before I gotta be on the job?  Soon as Timmy gets back with sammies we'll head your way.>>

I don't believe I've ever been this happy to see civilization again...

Ena mused to herself as she took the GMC Universe closer to the Darlington area and her Grid Guide override started picking up signal again.

A real bed, real food, and a real bath... it's just a pity that I'll have to get back into the cold again all too soon.

After a stop off at a small inn for all the promised amenities of civilization, as well as a proper transmittal of all survey information and a full report to Bex, Ena spent the first half of her Sunday refueling and restocking, including picking up a slightly-out-of-fashion-but-quite-warm cloak in preparation for the trek back out to the wilderness.  The second half was spent resting and recuperating, making sure she saved a backlog of the last season of Water Margin in the physical storage onboard her van.  After all you never knew when a few hours of trid shows would be useful to have when not in easy reach of normal Matrix streaming.

Monday saw Ena up bright and early, and at Darlington Station with a good 20 minutes to spare.  With the Universe on standby nearby, cruising in circles via GridGuide as necessary, Ena waited patiently.  As the appointed time for the train came close she lit up a plain ARO indicating that she was transportation reserved for the Smith party and consulted Bex's messages on who to look for as they disembarked.

Oh no, that's not on. That sounds plausible, they tend to use a special knife with a focus for their blood drawing rituals. I fear the worst then. You're making powerful enemies indeed.
You'll need treatment to begin immediately. If you don't, the hallucinations will get worse. A special salve of Lapsang and honeysuckle applied twice daily can stem the tide, but you must come to me as soon as your job is finished. I can bring a few doses of the salve round in a few hours and show you how to apply it if you cannot delay the job for a few days?

Timmy returned with breakfast with a heavy thud on the door. He greeted you with a flash of eyebrows, a takeout tea in each hand and a white paper bag full of the breakfast sarnies held between his teeth.
Grub's up mate, yours is that one with the brown sauce on. Went beserk, got the full fucking works mate!
A layer of sausage was topped with egg, mushrooms and tinned tomato dribbled out of the top of the towering sarnie and your stomach leapt with joy as the smell hit your nostrils. A large size tea to wash it down with sweetened the deal and you both tucked in hungrily, wiping egg yolk and tomato juice out of your stubbly beards and licking it off the back of your grubby hands.
Heaven.
You began to feel more human and Timmy left you after chatting shit for a while about the weather and the Clerkenwell boat raid, he'd dumped your share of the booty in your bedroom and you'd nearly tripped over it as you kicked off your kit and ventured into the shower. You stank, but the hot water running on your aching muscles was amazing.
You emerged a changed man, ready for a cig, salve, footy, pint and then onto the train in the morning.
If you're all done with downtime, make your IC hitting the train and any introductions you wanna do and we'll get rolling on the mission proper. You've got a full condition monitor and full edge refresh

@Profgast___________
The van started smoothly and slid around noisily around the corners on the old A66's snow covered cracked tarmac, protesting loudly as it battled between your throttle commands and its traction control system. Eventually you quit fighting it and jumped in, becoming the van and instinctively kicking it's back end out to maximise power into the corners. It hurt the fuel efficiency somewhat, but it was brilliant fun on the abandoned route.
A herd of deer startled at the unfamiliar noise of engines, running and scattering in all directions into the bracken that lined the lower altitude sections of the pass and you revelled in the glee of the late afternoon sunshine and this utterly stunning part of the world. It was lightyears away from the dim, grey oppressive feel of the Old Smoke, and the stresses of the acid rain and crushing density of population seemed a lifetime away as you opened the throttle and dodged deer on the slippery surfaces.
The suburbs rushed up to meet you as you came down the long downhill stretch of the newly refurbished section of the A66 you'd joined 40 minutes ago and quaint little houses eventually gave way to tenement blocks and recently constructed glass and steel apartments built to house working class families. The city centre was nothing to write home about, the usual selection of chain stores and small-town regional names lined the narrow streets. Though the locals probably thought the city-centre traffic was bad, they'd probably never driven down in the Megaplex of London and found out just how shit traffic can really be.
It wasn't long before gridguide pinged you a choice of lodgings and you'd arrived, dumping an overnight bag onto the bed and stripping off for a decent scrub down and some hearty food before enjoying the rest of what remained of the afternoon and evening walking around the small city centre. A nice pub, the Lion's head, served a decent beer and choice of pie for less than a tenner and you plonked yourself down at a table and idled through your link's newsfeed whilst the locals played pool and listened to the young lass singing her heart out with her acoustic guitar accompaniment. No-one really paid you much attention and you hit the hay early, eager to get sorted out with shopping in the morning.
Bex replied an hour after the upload, having studied the hi-res video.
//Looks like the house is just used for storage or staging of goods. Can't make out what that stuff is, even on the hi-res. Party of three to pick up on monday lunchtime. They're on the Aberdeen service, going by the names of Knives, Mams and Silas. I'll forward on your descriptions and they'll know to meet you by the left luggage department on the concourse. I've set up a private host for a briefing, make sure you're all together when you log in. Jump into the host as soon as you're all in the Van and heading up to the site.[<<meeting invite received>>]//
Left with your instructions, you plodded out of your digs for the night and headed into town, picking up a breakfast roll and a cuppa from the kitchen and out into the freezing cold morning. Sunday brought snow and a light dusting lay on the ungritted surfaces of the pavements and shop frontages.
The town was quiet, a mix of dog-walkers, shop workers and mums with prams making up the light foot-traffic and the quiet town made for an easy day's shopping. You'd passed the station a few times on the shopping trips and knew what to expect come Monday morning. A Sunday roast at the Lion's head and another early night ensued and before you knew it, your early alarm was ringing in your ears.

<<That would be brill mate.  Job is non-negotiable, I'm already committed.  Thanks for your help, cheers.>>

Reborn after the food shower and shave Knives packs his kit, double checking each piece of equipment then turns in early for a good night's sleep.  He is up bright and early the next day leaving in time to grab a cuppa and a few extra packs of smokes.

Boarding the train he nods to his table mates, eyeing the bloke in the odd get up for a moment longer than normal.  "Mornin gents, the name's Knives. Oi is this a smoking car?"  He plops down at the table and pulls out a smoke waiting to light it.

Taylor stands as Knives greats the table, rearranging his victorian era style as he rises.  "Looks like the party is all here now mate.  They call me Mams, they keep me around for tech support."  Nodding towards the dwarf he adds, "The grumpy one there is gonna be our resident finger waggler," with a smile at Silas.  Giving Knives a once over, "I take it you're our muscle?"

Is Knives' wound obvious?

"You got it mate.  There's two good reasons for my name.  Sounds like you might meet em for we come back to the smoke."

Knives firmly shakes the offered hand and chuckles, "Same ere mate.  A nice stroll through the countryside would be brill but if that's all it was I wouldn't be here.  Let's hope yer right an I can watch footy the whole time."

He looks to Mams, "Aight mate... I gotta ask.  What's with the fackin suit?  Even in the smoke ya'd stick out, in the sticks you'll be a blaring red target."

"What this?"  Mams says gesturing to his steampunk attire.  "Simply dressing to impress mate.  I may stand out a bit, but I make by.  And while people may remember me, there's rarely any proof I've been where folks tend to remember me being."  He says with wry grin.

Eventually the last of the passengers board and the arduous announcements about the restaurant car, toilets, fire safety, evacuation procedure blah blah blah come to an end.
With a clunk and a whirring of the massive electric motors, the train lurches into motion and the platform rapidly gives way to a huge long tunnel under roads and housing developments before breaching up into daylight past the historic ground of Arsenal football club. called a different name almost every year with the change of sponsors the club had, it had been their home for almost a century.
It too whipped past the window at speed and the shiny high rises soon gave way to the slum-like shanty town exterior of the m25 commuter belt towns. As grey as the smog cloud that drifted lazily above it, you all tried to avoid heading out past the M25 wherever you could.
Away from the congested rail lines of the city with their criss-crossing points and junctions, the train kicked up another notch and soon the grey oppressive concrete gave way to lush green fields full of cattle and the refreshment trolley made its way through the carriage, a pleasant young chap with a northern accent asking you whether you'd like anything to eat or drink.

@Zwei_______
The "decker" doesn't seem to be running too much in the way of offensive load-out. The prying eyes of your sprites find that the user is kitted for data processing and running a suite of editing and publishing programs. None of the icons around the carriages appear to be marked by the decker, including any of yours or your team's icons

Mams takes a moment to look at each team members 'link number and starts a group conversation.

<<<@Team [Mams] FYI, it looks like we've got another passenger that has the potential to be a bit nosey.  Running a low grade deck and has a taser with them.  Not currently taking any overt action, but I'm keeping an "eye" on them to be safe.  Lets assume anything we say out loud here is being heard by the world.  Speaking of, anyone have any thoughts on what we're being sent to do?  My fixer doesn't usually send me off to the nether realms looking for stuff for her.>>>

Knives smiles to the waiter, "Yea mate a pint a lager would be brill.  Mind if I smoke here?"

Seeing the flashing notification in his AR he thumbs out a reply, <<@Team [Knives]  Notes.  Not a clue on the job.  I've done a few jobs for the bloke who asked me along but each one was different.  This isn't the first time he's sent me off to the sticks though.]]

@Knives________
The waiter raises an eyebrow quizzically and nods at the no-smoking sign. Vestibule area of car F only I'm afraid. We have some rapid-absorb patches on sale here though if you'd rather stay with your colleagues?
He returns a short while with a glass of lager so cold that condensation trickled down the outside of the elegantly shaped glass.

@All___________
The small talk was stilted and awkward, the public space and close proximity of other people's ears prevented too much "work" talk and the prospect of a breach this early on the job didn't fill you with glee.
Staring out of the window whilst chatting on your secure line, the lush green country side soon disappeared behind a sheet of drizzle and grey as the train sped through the midlands.
The decker alighted at peterborough, some 20 mins north of London on a train as fast as this.
You enjoyed the service and occasionally startled at the high speed services buffeting the windows with their aero blast as they shot past heading down south to the capital and looked on, interested at the wave of faces that came and went with every stop in a station.
Eventually, the restored Victorian redbrick roof of darlington station covered the train and you alighted with your kit, looking for the ARO that advertised the fourth and final member of the team, your driver and recon specialist.
You spotted the ARO next to a relaxed looking lass, killing time by left luggage as the brief mentioned. She clocked your arrival and nodded in acknowledgement.

@Profgast_______
A likely bunch of misfits steps off the high speed service and mooches over with large bags full of kit, clocking your ARO and sussing you at a distance.
You nodded your acknowledgement to them as they closed the distance.

left you guys plenty of time for IC, but figured your chars weren't too chatty in the open space of the train. You've got a bit of time in Darlington town if theres anythig you wanted to pick up before heading to the mission site but Bex did want to brief the team as soon as you were picked up and in the van, profgast, please let the team know that in an IC

Ena bounces to her feet as she notes the approach of the rather motley looking crew coming off the train.  She gives them a cheery wave as they approach.

"Hello chaps!  You must be the Smith party!  I'll be your driver for this little excursion, and you can call me Eve for now.  Pleased to meet all of you, I'm sure.  Now if you need any last minute purchases or walkarounds, we have time for a little bit of shopping here in Darlington, but if you could keep it short and sweet that'd be grand.  Need to get you lot bundled into the van and so we can start up the Orientation trid.

Hoping the slight emphasis on the word 'orientation' will be enough to clue people in she continues to play the part of the cheerful tour-guide driver and beckons for her 'charges' to follow as they make their way out of the station.

"So any last minute stops we need to make before we get on the road?"
