Anyone attempting to be stealthy needs to beat a 5.

Hoping everyone updates soon.  I'll push things along if we haven't heard from them by tonight.

Mostly the perception check is for NPC runners or suspicious persons. I expect that the other players will choose whether or not they wish to role-play during the ferry trip or not. James is mostly curious, but might try to do some information gathering to get a leg up on the competition - or allies, as the case may be. I don't want to drag out the trip if people aren't interested in playing it out.

I'll leave it up to you guys.  Some good pre-Kim RP would help stack up the Karma, of course...

I'm not where I can roll atm, but I'll get to your perception roll soon.

Ferry trip seems nice RP.
If you can look into the astral you'll spot my character a mile away, especially since magically active people are quite rare. (Then again, I think Ivory will probably notice your char rather quickly for the same reason... what is the chance to see another awakened in the same ferry?)

As far as I have been able to tell, there is no hiding on the Astral.  A quick Assensing check ought to do it.

And ScytheKnight, did you finish your backstory?

Not quite, sorry about that been out of the house for a while. Most of the pieces have fallen into place, just still need to sort out the reason for the move, ATM best idea is pushing the move back a couple of years to being in the wake of Crash 2.0 as Matrix crazy Korea got back on its feet faster than Japan. Although taht was 10 years ago... hmm, but the 'new' Matrix was announced in 2074, so perhaps thinking things might be a bit more liberal Matrix wise in Korea? Suggestions are welcomed by the way.

For now the outline is born outskirts of Neo Tokyo, moved into the sprawl at a fairly yongue age being drawn into the Matrix. SUGE and Awakening occurred right around the same time.Connection to magic deepened her connection to the old Shinto traditions, but she's unable to summon spirits (a highly prized ability of Shinto) and being a Matrix gamer fell in with the Shinto sect that reveres Matrix Constructs. Younger sister starts to rise a bit in the Matrix gaming scene as Yako starts plying her skills in the Shadows, then the move to Korea and the cyberization. All this has been dogged persistently by her fairly extreme Gremlins causing chaos with technology.

Now Yako is trying to juggle her 'real life' with a near-famous Matrix Gamer sister, and working in the shadows.

It's a lot like the Internet today.  Blazing fast and hugely popular, but the only thing keeping Big Brother from watching everyone is sheer scale and government laziness.  There are more blockades in place if you're trying to do something you shouldn't, but what you are allowed to do, you can do easily and fast.  And if you do want to break the rules, the blockades really aren't that difficult to get around.

With that in mind, I'm going to drop the -2 penalty for the public grid in Korea to reflect that.  I'm also going to add a +1 to overwatch accumulation to account for the increased presence of GOD.  This is a dictatorship, after all.

You can give bonus to matrix search operations, as Koreans are more liberal with Matrix and there is a lot of stuff exposed.

I want to write a fun IC how my character notices James aura, cross reference with everyone on the ferry to anyone that do not have a good reason to be on that ferry in the middle of a working day and then send James a spooky message to his comm-link. Also some things like magic/adept licence are connected to a sin that is connected to the commlink etc.

Do I need to roll everything? or just RP it... I mean she is probably capable of this simple cross reference/matrix searches and has plenty of time to do so.

just in case we do need to role, here are some roles.

Astral space:
intuition (5) + asensing(3) = 8
Assensing: 8d6t5 2
Matrix perception: (intuition (5) + computers (5) + 2 hot sim)
Matrix perception: 12d6t5 4
Some matrix searches on several suspects + cross reference: logic (9) + computer (5) + hot sim (2) = 16
Matrix search: 16d6t5 2
Matrix search: 16d6t5 6
Matrix search: 16d6t5 2

Story is close to coming together... Should hopefully be in a position to post that today.

Just wanted to comment on the removal of the -2 Matrix Actions on the public grid. Just as a GM myself feel it's not really in line with the world, even in Matrix obsessed Korea there's the haves and the have nots... so perhaps reflect things with a +1 Dice Pool to all legal matrix actions (not linked to Attack or Sleaze) and all Illegal actions that incur an Overwatch Score has the score increased by 1. This way everything legal is quick and easy to achieve, but illegal activities are closely monitored.

Well, we can just give a 2 dice bonus to all grids. (High tech, and fancy networks). That means that public grid will have no negatives, but private grids are still better, with even faster access to data.

It sort of implies, that the public of Korea enjoys matrix access that is comparable to the middle class in other countries. Something that is realistic considering that there is a central entity that is in charge of matrix access. Probably as a means to keep the masses happy and gain popularity.

Another aspect that may be interesting is that IC is accumulated slower as there is a significantly higher matrix activity. This may be offset by the fact that IC are stronger in Korea,  (+1DV ? ) due to a large number of software experts in the country they make better IC.   Otherwise we could say that it balance out as the police in Korea is owned by the government all across the country.  That is if you are burned you are burned, it is easier to commit crimes, but there is nowhere to hide once you are discovered.

We already said that decks are cheaper in Korea,  that means that they are easier to find. There is an unusually high number of deckers, and they are somewhat of cultural heroes. Therefore, the government only interfere when people that really over do it, and has to tolerate the smaller offenses due to lack of resources and the fact that the public really like stories about ace deckers.

Hmm... I think I'll just stick with default on the grid penalties and the +1 on Data Search tests and Overwatch Score accumulation.  You're right, a lot of it will basically balance out between superior focus on the technology vs. tighter controls.

Gilga, no need to roll, this is for RP purposes.  Unless your target is another PC who objects, we can assume success.
