From page 188

RANGED DEFENSE
A defender has two choices for defending against
ranged attacks. The defending character can perform
the standard Reaction + Intuition Test for free. The de-
fender can also choose to go on Full Defense (p. 191)
and decrease his Initiative Score by 10 to gain a bonus
on their Defense Test equal to their Willpower for the
whole Combat Turn.


Later on, on page 191;

DODGE
Any character, armed or unarmed, looking for a quick,
short-term boost to his melee defense can use a Dodge
Interrupt Action against an attack at any point in a Com-
bat Turn, so long as the character is not surprised (see
Surprise, p. 192). A Dodge action allows the character
to roll Reaction + Intuition + Gymnastics [Physical] as
his Defense test. Note that since a skill is introduced to
the Defense Test, a limit is introduced as well.
This boost only deducts 5 from his Initiative Score,
but it only lasts for a single Defense Test.


I think the key words there are "boost to his melee defense".
This is a ranged defense, and as such, follows the first paragraph.

Besides being the RAW, this also makes sense.  You can't block or parry bullets.  But you sure can dive and duck out of the way of them.

Agreed, and this diving and ducking out of the way is represented by the Full Defense action. I kinda dig it, honestly. It should be a little harder to dive and duck from bullets than to block and dodge punches. Making it cost 10 init instead of 5 is a good way of doing that.

Wait, it might also be 8 instead. 5 physical damage, so I'm at a -1 for all rolls. So, probably 8 initiative.

I disagree... ALL of the defenses mentioned in the Active Defenses topic mention Unarmed Combat (UC) or Melee combat specifically. But that section is referenced from the Ranged Combat section... So if they are all active defenses ONLY for Melee or UC then why mention them in the Ranged Combat section?


Actually... I just reread the Active Defenses main heading (pp190-191) and....
"Sometimes you want to.... For those times, characters have one extra option for ranged attacks and 4 for..." So the FULL DEFENSE is the only extra option for ranged attacks.

FP is sprinting in to attack who ever he can see, Bandana in this case (hoping that people are still affected by the flashpack).

Movement: Charging to Bandana, likely putting him between FP and Destiny. (+2 on the charge)
Complex Action: Melée with sword: Blades 7 + 3 AG: 10d6t5 5 that makes 14P (Critical Strike[Blades] makes this a base 9P weapon)
Free: Perception: where is Destiny: 11d6t5 3


I forgot the +2 on the charge (+2 on the charge: 2d6t5 0)

We're currently an action behind in the IC.

Meanwhile:

Seeing Blowjob plow through after Bandana hits the dirt, Viso takes aim and pops off at the off-balance Blowjob.

Whoops -1: 1d6t5 0 forgot the -1AP, but it all worked out.

Ok, so once again, the armorjack soaks it all up. Lucky so-and-so.

Well, in that case I have no idea where my opponent is and I'm wounded...

So, despite me, the player knowing he's inside...

Free: "Lost sight of enemy."
Simple: Ready Flashbang.
Simple: Toss flashbang over fence.
Free: Move to corner.

I assume the flash will go off during or after the first pass of the next round.
