First of all is it still around or has it been dealt with?
I want ti introduce it as the secret hand behind some bad things in Glow City ( with Rusted Stilettos, Toxic shamans, Kalanyr etc playing a part)

Any suggestions for converting it to SR5?

Who/What is Gwynplaine?

The Shadowrun Wiki is drawing a blank, please illuminate me.

Toxic spirit of man (Force 12) which Harlequin created by accident. It kinda looks like him and it seems to have an agenda, manipulating gangs like the Rusted Stilettos. For more information you can also check the Street legends supplemental under the entry of Harlequin.

It's a toxic, but it's behaviour is more befitting of a shadow spirit. Oh, and it has a particular hate-on for elves, magicians and elven magicians.

Last time I checked, it was raising hell in Denver, presumably trying to pass any blame on Harlequin's anti-Ghostwalker campaign. It's all buddy-buddy with Puck and it's hinted that it started to create some sort of network or organization. Before that, it was in Seattle, siccing Spikes and Rusted Stilettos on the Ancients. I don't remember anyone taking care of Gwynplaine, although Ehran tried to reason with Harly and get him to do something about him.

I think Gwynplaine is also mentioned in Storm Front as the "evil" Harlequin that sets events in motion.

Like I said: raising hell in Denver.

That leaves the conversion. Personally, I think he should be buffed up a little. Remember, this is the spirit that Harlequin - you know, the uber-badass millenia-old immortal elf - decided to keep bound and doing nothing because he apparently couldn't get rid of it and considered it too dangerous to actually use. And that horrifying monster is a FORCE 12 spirit of man? Seriously?

Well, Harlequin can easily conjure a more powerful spirit but a force 12 toxic spirit is enough to give my players a heart attack (they have gained 50 karma more or less) :p

I guess the spirit can easily travel from Denver to Glow City and raise some  hell there.

Keep in mind, it has Harly's perchance for using cat's paws and screwing with people. It's more likely to act as a behind-the-scenes mastermind rather than face anyone in mortal kombat ( :P).

I'd use that as an excuse to buff it - it won't come after them himself, so they can try to find it's formula and attempt to really ruin it's day. And if they try direct approach? Well, Gwynplaine is a sadistic bastard - it might try to take them alive, keep them to amuse itself every now and then (no need for anything graphic either - it has both Agony and Mass Agony), probably gloat as well - possibly giving away some important detail in the process? After all, it's Harlequin's dark reflection - and Harlequin's an arrogant, self-centered prick (which is why we love him).

That's... Actually a pretty good analogy. Except, less insane, more evil. Say, The Dark Knight incarnation. Although Gwynplaine would be a little more clandestine.

Not necessarily - or at least, not entirely.  Imagine, if you will, helping out your pals in the Ancients (or other elven group), seeing a harlequin-dressed elf with a pistol and a knife, fighting alongside your opponents.  He never misses, the opposition seems to almost never miss (because of enhancement magic on Gwynplaine's part), and even more, they take time in the middle of the fight to mutilate corpses and torture the injured.

Still, he does seems to like getting others to do stuff that he himself could - just like Harly.

Two words: 'plausable deniability'.  Also 'covered tracks'.  'Low profile.'  Besides, one can only be in one place at a time ...
