I know most people ignore taxes but it just occurred to me the 15 point negative quality pays 5k a month which is enough for a medium lifestyle unless you pay taxes. If you do pay taxes you can be paying up to 20% or 1,000 yen. Which would mean your looking at a low lifestyle with 1,600 spare for your 40 hour week. So I'm wondering if you have day job are the taxes assumed and that's your tale home pay?

Since it is an allowance from a Trust Fund and not wages / salary then any taxes are the responsibility of the Trust Manager as it is the income from investments that attracts any income tax.

Trust fund is a positive one you purchase to get a lifestyle + spending money every month which is what your thinking about.

Day job is a negative quality where you have to spend X hours (10, 20 or 40) a week working in order to earn Nuyen (?, 2,400 or 5,000. Can't remember the lowest level offhand) and can interfere with your runs which is the one I'm wondering about. This one is wages/salary for your work done and gives karma to spend at character creation.

See, it's actually a typo where they transposed some letters.

You actually pay Texas, aka Lone Star, in the form of the usual bribes to not hassle you when you and your team are going through the nicer parts of town on your way to that job breaking into a corp or help lose evidence if something turns up as the case may be.

I read it as:
If your character is SINless then I'd assume it's a nuyen in hand job. No taxes, no superannuation, no records of you being an employee, no coverage by workplace insurance if you get injured, nothing.
If you have a SIN, it's your gross pay and taxes are yet to be applied (as per your level of SIN negative qualilty). On the upside, you're covered if you're injured at work!

I think about this every so often especially in regards to fake SINs. Runners usually have multiple fakes and in my groups cases from multiple countries/corps. We just handwave it.

Its a monthly salary - nothing was said about taxes. The player is either working under a fake sin at a corp - or cash in hand like someone else suggested at some low down diner. If there are taxes being taken out, its coming off the top, and the player never sees them. That would be my take on it.

I'd have a hard time charging a PC taxes unless he had a specific negative quality (Limited Corp SIN, for example) that specifically mentions it.

You're absolutely right. I've got no idea why I mixed the two up.  I'm putting it down to old age and meds!

So if a PC did have a SIN you would charge them taxes on the day job interesting I thought day job required it be tied to a legitimate SIN but maybe it's just trust fund.

As I said I know most people hand wave I'm just wondering if taxes come before or after on this one as per RAW and this was meant to be posted in rules I didn't realize I was in the wrong forum. So I'm not really in a position to comment on your mixing up the qualities.

I will say if its money before taxes and you add in fame it gets interesting. Top level job + top level fame = 600,000 Nuyen a year, a 50 hour work week and 120,000 in taxes.

Senko - its your monthly pay, not weekly. Look at the chart below the text it says Salary/Month.

...This quality burdens a character with responsibilities and time commitments. While the regular income is nice, having a regular schedule and a boss to answer to doesn’t jibe well with the shadowrunning profession....which is usually a pretty decent gig based on the pay rates... the character must possess a valid SIN (SINner quality or at least a Rating 4 fake SIN). If they have the SINner quality, the money from the Day Job quality is considered already taxed ... they lose their job. Losing their job costs them 2 points of Street Cred (how can you be trusted as a runner if you can’t even hold a job as a fry cook?) and costs the character a month of salary due to purchases they made in anticipation of their pay.

Its all right there, its already taxed, SINner or not, and is suppose to be a fairly decent paying gig - the money is a monthly salary. Thats RAW, I mean house rule that like you will...

Ah I missed that bit thanks. No plans to houserule it just wanted to know. I knew it was monthly pay its just fame multiplies your income by 2 to 10 depending on your level. If your globally famous it's 5000 * 12 (months) * 10 (fame) = 600,000 a year but your multiplying the hours by 25% as well so a 50 hour week.
