Three hits and up means your not surprised.
Combat sense is a bonus on dodge and allows a perception to see if you get a surprise check, it doesn't actually add to your surprise check, Danger Sense does. Unless they Erreta'd the two together, I might have an older book.

Sounds like you're looking at the adept ability. Look at the spell, which I do have up. They should have made them do the same thing, it's confusing to have two things with the same name do slightly different things

Well caught, Calico is not surprised and running six hits on that Combat Sense. However, you are now sustaining 4 spells at once, so you'll be at minus 8 for any action you take during your turn. I believe dropping a spell is a simple action, but don't quote me on that.

Psyche* makes it -1 per sustained spell
Combat sense (focused concentration, -0)
Increased reflexes on Angus, sustaining focus. -0
Armor -1
Sound barrier -1
Phantasm -1
Everything I can find on the internet says dropping a spell is a free action, but I can't find it in the rulebook. So I'll defer to your judgment on that one.
*Psyche also gives +1 int, which means my total dodge/surprise dice is 18 at the moment (5+1 int, 5 rea, combat sense 7 (6 spell, 1 adept)). Just so you have that number handy.

Thanks for the breakdown, I'm not used to playing magic characters. Bright side, I'm learning a lot.
So Angus charges forward and hit the guard for two net hits since he's surprised and gets no defense roll.
Ouch, details in IC thread but he's prone, maybe dead.
Alas, the force 1 sound barrier isn't enough to keep the noise down, everyone hears the gunshots.
A guy does a thing.
Following up, Tarrane rushes forward and finishes the job.
Gespenst swears in german and starts trying to hack the other boat.
One guard down, four still inside. Two of them find cover and whip up their new weapons to fire busts at Tarrane.
Roll to dodge two bursts, so minus two each, and the second minus three.
Calico is up.

While she writes quick questions. What is the lay out of the boats. More specifically is the helm open or closed off from the environment? Could I shoot (if i had a clear shot) the person piloting the second boat, or failing line of sight on the captain shoot something threw an open door or window such as a grenade? If so what range? I don't really need to know until my turn.

The new Illusion springs into life!
The other boat is still a ways out, you know its there but to get a clear idea of what's where you'll need to spend a complex action to observe in detail. Given the nearer boat, however, you suspect the helm is in a three walled cabin about two thirds back. The boat itself looks mostly like this (

The second boat was well within earshot and is making it's approach to the building when shots were fired, its mostly a matter of darkness that requires observe in detail. You can change your illusion or move it out behind the other boat.

Hey, I'm back. Long story short, I wasn't getting email updates about the posts people were making in addition to some life struggles. Sorry for not being here. I'm here now and all caught up. Only one question, how many obvious guards on the other side are currently staring at Terrane. If I counted correctly, 2?
