We don't know if Sam drops until Poindexter makes some dodge and soak rolls.

@Poindexter Soak 5S from Chino with a straight Willpower roll, -1 from Berserk.
@Poindexter Roll Intuition+Logic (-1 for each from Berserk) to dodge 3 hits from Katsina's astral combat. If necessary, soak 8S+net hits. (I misstated the damage yesterday as 9S+hits.)

Doc does not know any Close Combat skills. He figures his best bet would be to shoot Sam in his armor jacket with buckshot. The damage (10P + flechette if that's what you're using) won't penetrate Sam's armor, making the damage Stun instead of Physical. The challenge is not hitting Chino or Ace in the process.

Not to completely throw Poindexter under a bus, but wouldn't the INT+LOG test face a further die penalty for the second attack since Sam's last action?

It's debatable.

Astral Combat is a big fuzzy mess because it gets less than one column of one page, and is largely summarized by, "Astral combat is resolved in the same way as physical combat." That summary opens as many questions as it answers - are there bonuses for cover or movement? are there environmental penalties if the astral space is complex? is it more like melee combat or ranged combat? can it really be compared to physical combat when it is entirely psychic, involving only Mental attributes?

Back in 4E I had a messy astral combat sequence where the players won by spamming a superior opponent with 5 watchers. The watchers only had 1 or 2 dice to roll for Astral Combat, but their accumulated attacks whittled away the defender's dice pool because of the "Defender has defended against previous attack" penalty, which I applied. Maybe I shouldn't have, given the inconsequential nature of being attacked by a watcher, and this certainly isn't an issue in 5E, where watchers are expensive and rare, but it made me rethink how literally to take the "Astral combat is resolved in the same way as physical combat" statement.

Given the uncertain nature of astral combat, I'm inclined to keep the dice pools as straight and clean as possible, with relatively few modifiers.

Soak 5S (Will 6): 6d6t5 2

Ok, so that's three more, putting Sam at 7S and 6P Still up

Defense roll (Log 3 + Int 2 - Already defended 1): 4d6t5 2

Soak 9S (Will 6): 6d6t5 3

so that puts Sam at 13S and 6P, if my math is correct. And that puts him down. Dang. I was hoping to stay up long enough to have Bear admonish me or something, but I knew he was gonna go down fast, so whatever. :)

That's it for the Foimor.

Looks like Poindexter did the math correctly. Katsina finally drops him, about which she will probably feel very badly.

I'm sure Bear will be there to admonish Sam when he wakes up.

Dropping out of initiative passes.

Yes, I was planning on keeping him around, mostly because I have him until daybreak so there's little incentive to send him on his way, but also he obviously has a message/admonishment to deliver. Usually Ohanzee will release a spirit early as a reward for a job well done, but Bear hasn't done anything yet, so he can help watch Sam and secure the camp until the rising sun sends him home.

As for RP, I'm okay with letting Poindexter (or Tec) handle Bear's end of the dialog in any interactions with Sam. As an aspect of the Bear Mentor Spirit his guidance could very likely be both enlightened (possibly incorporating or alluding to knowledge that the players/characters do not yet have) and personal.

We've been neglecting to apply the advantage from Sam's mentor spirit, namely the +2 dice to resist damage. This doesn't apply to the 6P from counterspelling drain, but it does apply to the attacks from Ace, Chino, and Katsina.

Soak dice from mentor spirit: 3#2d6t5 0 hits 1 hit 0 hits

Not much different. That puts Sam at 12S and 6P. Sam's stun damage track is still full and he's still out for a while.

Sam gets 1 free level of Rapid Healing from his mentor spirit. This adds +1 die for Sam's natural rest/recovery, and an extra die on attempts to heal him with magic or first aid. That's good, because Sam's 6P is drain damage which can't be healed with magic or first aid (p. 278). That said, with his damage compensators he won't even notice it.

IC post is up, so we're into open RP.

Current time is somewhere between 6pm and 8pm. It's dark out, windy and cold.

We don't need to go minute-by-minute with our posts. Anything you would do in the course of an hour is fair to post about.

Made a small update to last IC to give the text from Sam's link message.

Also, I will be mostly out of touch tomorrow, so feel free to RP Chino as desired as Ace as needed.  If possible, I'll get a post in late tomorrow night.

I will be on vacation June 20-27, and my posting will sporadic at best.  Don't hold up the game on my account.  I trust you guys to RP Chino and Ace in my stead.

Is Katsina aware that Sam has some connection to Bear? She seems to intimate that in the IC, but so far as I can determine Sam's only indication of having some relationship with Bear is his lucid dreams and his fevered utterances asking where Bear had went. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything before Ohanzee responds.

No, she doesn't know. She might be making an educated guess, but she was referring more to the spirit's intimidation factor. She said Bear more as a designation than as a proper name.

Sorry for the delay, I want to address the comm that Ace hands Doc.  I'll get my post up tonight, but it'll probably be pretty late.

And I missed that deadline.  IC post finally up.

@Tec: Guessing to find the info on the burners I'm gonna need to get into the host of the shop he bought them at and check against purchases made on his fake SIN?

Ohanzee and Chino know exactly how many burners Sam bought as well as the exact time he came up with the idea. Ace knows where he's dropped them and that he only started dropping them after we left the safehouse.
