Answering some IC questions:

1) How violent was the assault on AF? I will post something ICly.

2) Did APB grab information on the obelisk? Yes, on her initial run. I will post ICly.

3) What is the relationship between the organizations we are considering courting? I suppose it depends on which ones you are considering courting. My response will include the DIMR, the Draco Foundation, and the Atlantean Foundation.

4) What is Jäger's relationship with her peers in those organizations? Requires Matrix Search.

5) What are their budgets? Requires Matrix Search. Good luck.

6) What does Hans Jäger do for a living? This requires 1 hit on a Matrix Search, so I'll presume you succeed. I'll post it ICly.

Next
It's getting late ICly. It will be about 10pm by the time Sam (and anyone else) are done planting demolitions, and about the same for the conclusion of Doc's initial search on Jäger. I presume the team will be setting up rotating watches again.

Dice rolls
@Zweiblumen I'll need some Matrix Search rolls from Doc.
@Poindexter If Sam is going to sneaky while setting his demolitions, then roll Sneaking. If he doesn't care, then he doesn't have to.
@rednblack Same as for Sam, if Ace or Chino go to help set demoltions.
@Malevolence I can't remember what, if anything, Ohanzee has summoned. If you want to do any summoning, roll for it.

You might have some Noise complications. The baseline is -5 but you can eliminate some with your datajack and running Signal Scrubber. Are there other Noise modifiers you have?

Nope, so, -2 on all 4 of those rolls.
#1 stays the same
#2 losses two hits (subtracts 2 dice from my last roll)
#3 stays the same
#4 losses 1 hit

so, 4 hits for the first roll and 6 hits for the second.  neither very good for finding deep hidden.  Given that, I'll edge the misses for the second roll (we only live once right?)  Edging for search (7 misses): 7d6t5 3
9 total hits for the second roll.

Long IC post up.

It doesn't address Doc's most recent searching, other than some basic stuff on Hans.

It's already a lot so I'll wait to provide the results for Doc's next batch of searching. ICly it will take Doc quite a while anyway. That should give us the opportunity to discuss the latest findings (my most recent IC post) a bit before moving on.

I'm going to spend the last of Katsina's knowledge karma on Magical Societies 3. Given her backstory (as yet unrevealed), it makes sense that she would know a lot of this.

Edit: Katsina's roll: Logic 5 + Magical Societies 3: 8d6t5 6 hits. Katsina actually knows a tremendous amount about the situation, and the relationship between the various societies.

Not sure if it's a logic or intuition roll as I don't know which background he has for matrix security (not sure why it's got ?? on my sheet).  Going with logic because that seems more likely to me that it was academic or professional rather than picking it up on the streets or merely an interest.
Matrix Security about satalite uplinks (Log 9 + Skill 4 = 13): 13d6t5 6

That said, AFIAK (Zweiblumen not Doc) the uplink will showup as an icon on the matrix, but the same as the millions of other satellite links that show up.  There's no reason to try and get 2 marks and trace this particular device icon any more or less than any of the others.  All of that, I wanted to see what Doc knew versus what *I* know.  Pretty sure he knows even more than I do.

Correct that it will show up as an icon, and be identifiable as a satellite link, but it would be an exaggeration to say that there are millions of other similar icons that it would blend in with.

If you were in the Athabaskan Council or the Trans-Polar Aleut Nation or somewhere similarly remote, then the satellite would not be notable. But the PCC has one of the very best (and most widely available) wireless networks on the planet, so satellite links will definitely stick out more here than elsewhere.

It would be wise to disable the satellite while Doc is not actively using/protecting it.

Okay.  I'm still confused as to how its location would show up without a trace on it and it's not on the PCC grid (if it were, I wouldn't need the uplink). But Doc does and that's the important part!   I'll get an IC post up most likely tomorrow morning.  I've got plans tonight.

Well, let's think this through. I agree that the exact physical location wouldn't show up without a Trace, but even if the signal is bouncing off satellites it has to connect to some grid somewhere at some point. Doc doesn't have access to the global grids without Brute Force or Hack on the Fly, which I presume he wouldn't use for Overwatch Score reasons. Thus he's stuck using the Local Grid if he wants to avoid grid hopping penalties (which he didn't take), but his Firewall protects it while he's using it so the concern is more about its visibility while not in use. From a fluff perspective, we can say that the satellite icon appears in geosynchronous orbit above the PCC. So, one icon out of many, but that "many" is a finite number.

Given the stakes (the obelisk) and the relatively low level of security that many satellite links would have, it stands to reason that a team of dedicated hackers could work their way through the list. Slapping a couple marks and a running a Trace would only take 3 seconds for someone running in VR. So 20 a minute, 1200 an hour, maybe 10000 overnight for a single hacker (probably souped up on Long Haul). He could throw them off by grid hopping to another local or public grid, but that would slow down his own Matrix activities. Plus, the danger isn't so much the time when Doc is actively using it (since his Firewall would protect it) but rather the time when Doc isn't using it. He could leave it on a different grid while not using it, but why bother?

Again, would they find you? Probably not, at least not right away, but the one way to be sure is to turn it off while not in use.

Separately, a new IC post is up. I'm doing my best to stick to the canon as much as possible, which involves a lot of time with 3rd Edition sourcebooks. I am diverging from it occasionally, usually when the canon conflicts itself or when we're venturing into undefined territory. For example, Street Grimoire gives the estimated size of the DIMR at 375 globally. This doesn't synch up well with the description of the DIMR from previous editions, so I've moved away from it toward something I think is more reasonable.

OOC, the interest in Jäger by Mr, Cannon is one way? No indication that it was returned by Mrs. Jäger? Evidence of an affair could be useful. Even if it isn't returned by Jäger, it could be something that is leveraged against him in negotiations. Lie to him about how impressed Jäger would be if he were to snatch such a prize, etc.

No indication that the attention is reciprocated. Jäger seems to be tight-knit with her husband.

Chino does. I'll send them to rednblack so he can share them.

I'm going to update Katsina's last IC post to expound on the relationship between DIMR and the ASPS, which might (or might not) be coloring the relationship between Mrs. Jäger and Mr. Cannon.

So Cannon's looks are not lust/desire/attraction? Jealousy? Mistrust? I've been assuming a romantic interest, but the "possible clarification" makes it sound more like they might be more like estranged siblings maintaining a temporary cease fire in some cut throat popularity contest. If so, then their relationship isn't as tight as "Jager" indicated. If it is affection, he might be harder to convince to go against her wishes if she called her peers and insisted they not bid. Or I can manipulate him by making him think buying the artifact would impress her, despite what she has told him overtly.

Few things are as bad as the ire of a man or woman feeling as though they've been played by a potential romantic interest.  He may be manipulated that way.
