Tanja raised one perfectly sculpted eyebrow. In very melodious Russian she replied:
"The Triads you mean? I would like to help, but contrary to what you might believe I am a woman of my word. Discretion is part of what I sell. There are no trackers or spyware. The transporters I use are all old fashioned throwbacks with diesel engines this job I even did myself - at least that is what my guards tell me. I lost pretty exactly two hours of memory.
But there might be a way. I know that my loader has moved exactly 15,35 km from the harbor where the container was previously to the hiding place back to this place. If you can get into the Seattle traffic control host you might be able to find where I went. The registration of the loader is FT-L04D77. Your team seems resourceful. I am sure, you can do something with this.

Now that I have helped you, you owe me a favor. I will call on you."

Scary looked bewildered at that exchange: "What's going on here?"

Krestov allowed himself the smallest of smiles as he gave a respectful lowering of his head to the terms.  Woman of word, but still has a way.  bnc will like this puzzle I think..  Mentally pulling up his messenger app, he forwarded the intel to the diminutive decker before responding, this time in English.  "May have founding way track down shipment.  We come agreement, yeah?"  He made no mention of the price he paid for this intel...some things are better kept quiet, to avoid distressing the team.

bnc bites her lips nervously as she receives the data. Unconciously, she runs a hand through her hair.

There's no fucking way I can crack the Seattle traffic control host. This is a couple of leagues higher than my skill. Higher than anyone's skill, I suppose. That is, unless... No, I can find a smarter way to find this truck. Hopefully

bnc opens a map of Seattle and shares it with her team and Tanja. "Could you please pinpoint the position where the truck started?"
If she refuses, she will just mark the point she deems most likely, or most central.

She then draws a circle of 15.35 km with the chosen point as the center. If we don't have an exact position, the circle will be transparent and about 2.5 km wide. After subtracting unlikely positions (like the ocean, restricted areas, ...), this should narrow down the possibilities where the truck is to a manageable amount.

Tanya made a gesture and bnc received a map file to her commlink. Both map points were labled and had an oval around them, indicating the area, the cargo could be in.

"If that is all, I'd ask you to leave. I have other clients to receive.
I'll be in contact, Krestov."

bnc can attempt an int+computer or int+navigation check to narrow down the search radius where a heavy truck could have driven with that reach.

Krestov gains a new contact with Tanja: Con 4 / Loy 1 - one favor owed.

Narrowing down the search area: 11d6t5 3

bnc receives and stores the file, then thanks Tanja.
"Thank you for your time and help. I don't think there's a reason to keep you any further."

With that, bnc leaves and heads for the car, where she starts to edit the map. Once she's finished, she shares the results with her teammates. Alora, let's start, sempais. The night is ours!"

The mapsoft started to work and filled the map with lines, indicating streets where a 40t trailer truck could have driven.
This narrowed the area considerably down, but still left them with four 1kmē areas to search. Direct access to some nearby traffic cameras would help to narrow it down, but that would require someone to climb up and plug in a data cable for direct access at somewhat busy intersections. Nothing impossible, but time sensitive nontheless.

Slobbertooth grumbled, but held out his hand. "Give me that cable, I'll get up there. Just find a way to kill the lights so I'm not seen."

Slobbertooth focused some of Wolf's magic into himself, activated his image link, and climbed up the pole with the cabling held in his teeth.

It's Seattle, I'm assuming a -2 Dice Pool Modifier for the pole being slipper or wet (bow chicka bow wow).

I'm confused. This has three reasons:
  • I'm not as bright as I'd love to be ^^
  • I thought the whole point in doing all the calculations was to avoid climbing up a traffic light and hacking the traffic control system. If I do, I won't have to narrow down anything any further, don't I? By the way, I only have the cable that is integrated in my datajack, so unless Slob does the hacking, bnc has to go up herself somehow.
  • We know the exact distance the truck drove. So shouldn't we have a finitive amount of points where it could have landed, instead of a large area?

Before the calculation you had just an oval from the linear distance. Now you have a calculation where the truck could have driven too.
You now either can search the four areas directly or you can narrow it down even further by hacking into the traffic host and executing a file search
Lastly, longer data cables can be bought in every stuffer shack for 5 NY per meter

All right ^^ I'll assume that there's still a store open at this time of the night? If so, let's go and grab a couple o' meters and plug our beloved teenie decker in!
Could you give me the host level and the device level of the traffic light - assuming the plugging in goes without any problems.

After a short stop at a stuffer shack, the team drove to one of the areas, searching for a likely traffic light with a sensor array.

Slobbertooth just had to climb onto the roof of the car to reach the light. A quick strike with the butt of his gun uncovered the universal data port.

bnc had direct contact.

The traffic light is a simple device with rating 2, so only 4 dice to defend against your hack.

The traffic host is rating 7 with ASDF of 8/7/9/10
Once you have entered the host, you'll have to make a data search threshold 2 (since you already narrowed down the area) and a simple crack file action vs 10 dice
Don't tarry, the ice there is nasty 8)

Hacking on the Fly: 19d6t5 2
This is the worst hacking ever. Luckily, I'll only have to beat 4 dice...

Matrix search: 13d6t5 6

Device Defense: 4d6t5 1

Ok, one mark on the light and one mark on the host

You find the file, now you have to crack it...
Crack File Defense: 10d6t5 5 [10d6t5=2, 3, 5, 3, 5, 5, 5, 2, 6, 4]

For bnc it was childs play to enter the host after getting direct access to the traffic light. A quick search with the right parameters revealed a secured file with the relevant data. Now it was just a question of cracking the file without alerting the patrol ICE.

Oh damn. This is gonna be tough.
I don't have my character sheet with me, but I dimly remember there was a program which grants 2 bonus dice on cracking. If i remember incorrectly, just subtract the last two dice. If I remember correctly, I'll load this instead of my baby monitor. My OS should be at 0 anyway.
*breath*
Ah, yeah, And I'll load Defuse instead of Exploit.

Crack File: 19d6t5 4
Time to spend some edge. I can't remember having used edge in this run before. Anyway, after the night it should be replaced. So I'll have 3 points left.
re-roll blown chances: 15d6t5 5

Bam. That sums up to 9 scores. Whew, the concept of edge sometimes takes a lot of tension out of situations...

For a moment bnc had been worried about a warning message, telling her that the decryption had stalled, but the process finished nonetheless.
Copying the file and jacking out was only a formality after that.
Back in the van she was able to open the photos of the traffic cameras. They showed the truck driving to an abandoned dockyard and vanish into a rundown warehouse with the number 12b. 10 minutes later the truck left again - this time without the container. The warehouse itself looked as if it hadn't been used in 20 years but was otherwise remarkable like the one they had used as a launch point on their previous run.
In point of fact this warehouse was no more than 200m from that previous one away.
