Not so much something wrong, but I got ask about antenna, page 74? If noise is supposed to be a major issue to encourage Shadowrunnners to get close, then why give such a cheap and easy way to avoid it? I mean, the whole stacking datajacks issue was still there, but that seems an easy fix for GM's to say no stacking.

It also makes smoke and mirrors even more op, which I have mentioned elsewhere.

I am just curious about an item that seems to heavily undermine a core tenant of matrix stuff in 5th. Yes, there several other ways to avoid noise, but all of them have significant opportunity costs or trade offs to using them.

Thoughts?

Antennae (usually in Canada and US its antennas when referencing devices, odd) break easy and can be stripped from you.

I dunno, but a total Noise reduction of 4 (3+datajack) isn't the end of the world.

Not really a big concern when they're in a cyberear.

Considering how many ways there is to pump up noise, jammers, wireless negating paint, trees, rain, distance, environment, etc etc. I don't think antennae is the straw that broke the camel's back just yet. Though if they keep adding more noise mitigation is later books, we might start to see some weirdness. But then again the stay at home decker is a tried and true trope of the shadows, so maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing.

3 from antennae, 2 from signal scrub, 2 from vectored signal filter, 1 from datajack, and if you want to be cheesy, as many more datajacks as you can fit.
Bonus if you have them colour controlled and wrapped in myomers for that medusa look you always wanted.
Still waiting on a Vector-Thrust Liminal Body.

Also add rigger's RCC not taking up every possible program slow, each one not used adds another point of noise reduction.

Let's also not forget Satellite Uplink to reduce maximum noise from range to 5.

Overall I think 5e putting that notion in the ground was one of the best things done for the game, in addition to making some good strides in solving the Decker Problem.

The game shouldn't encourage or incentivize splitting the party as a normative thing, or allow critical actions to take place in consequence-free environments. It just creates headaches when you assume your Matrix people won't generally be on site with everyone else.

As mentioned technically you can get 5 noise reduction with 3 antenna and 2 data jacks, which plus satellite uplink = hack from anywhere. Now you still have to connect to device sometimes to get around insane firewalls but still

At least the noise reduction programs and deck upgrade had opportunity cost: if you have these you can't be running other programs or upgrades. But antennas just don't. 500nu  + .1 essence or 1 capacity is so cheap

So now the decker can go to site, get a mark on a device, then go back to van.

Or they can abuse the heck out of smoke and mirrors

Seems a bit silly. I would have limited personally to 1 of this item and say u can't stack data jacks. But that's me. I also would fix smoke and mirrors and have a lot of angry people yell at me :)
