After she figured out that you do know what datajacks are but are unsure how skilljacks work, she starts to explain. I'll keep the color black to make it easier to read.
Also, yee be warned, this might be my interpretation of how it works when it comes to details. For Scarcrow, Mark and Cinder, this is reality, however :D

"The main difference is that a datajack sends information to your commlink. You can have a link without a jack, but not the other way round. Skilljacks, however, send info to your wetware directly. So, if you slot a knowsoft for, say, French, neuromedicine and you see a cut-open brain, the skilljack basically hijacks the signal from your brain, interpretes it on his own, generates a very sophisticated response and sends it back to the other parts of the brain. Thus, an outsider won't figure out why you can tell the amygdala from the hypothalamus, and basically, so won't you. There is a difference, however: Skilljacks don't change your brain. In fact, they preserve it from changing. Usually, when I explain you the difference between the amygdala and the hypothalamus, you learn. If you have a skilljack, however, you don't, because all the information is redirected to the jack.
That's why they never became as popular as people thought they would be when they entered the market. People dreamed of becoming neurosurgeons in a day, and famous footballers in another. But they didn't. Unless you spend a really, really, really big amount of money in good jacks, good softs and, of course, the skillwires to send all the relevant information to your muscles, you stay mediocre. You don't buy skilljacks and something you wanna be good at, because you will always be mediocre and have no chance to improve. And who spends a lot of money and pain in becoming mediocre in something that's not important for them?
Nobody. That's why they're hardly being used.
I hope you don't plan to acquire some, do you?"

When she started explaining, Scarcrow opened the connection for Mark to overhear.

Skillwires... no idea if li'l Bikki got those. He sent a message to Riker, asking him whether Bikki had received any other implants that weren't plainly visible, or if his nervous system got somehow altered by the temple.

"Tik chha, tik chha. Nah, don't worry, I'm not gonna stick a slot in my brain. I... wanna be honest with you, I was more worried 'bout... well, a story I heard. Probably just gossip:

I've heard of datajacks that can... well, alter a person's brain permanently. Or rather, a chip inside the jack does that. Changes his memories and shit. Is that even possible? Probably not, right?
But if it was, if someone got such a brainraper implanted - how could it be undone?"

Well, I guess it doesn't really matter since it should be pretty obvious for Liz that Scarcrow is just trying to keep her out of the dirty business.

Cinder replied to the message:
<<I'll see what we have on such drugs in the files.>>

Consequently he directed a request to Felix from the drugs department:
<<Hi Felix, I caught a rumor today that someone is bringing half a kilo of a memory erasing drug into the city. Do we have any dealers on file who might be the receiver of such a specialized package? If yes I'll take a closer look into this and give you some feedback - will be good for both our quotas if there is any truth to this rumor.>>

Riker, obviously not very busy at the moment, replies more or less instantly.
<@Scarcrow <Uhm, well, I can't really remember the specifics, but we brought him to a doctor. Dr. Manzoo's his name. He said, he's only wired in the head. Probably he meant that there's only this demonic slot. I think he said something more in doctor's Nenglish, but I didn't really catch up.>>

Liz frowns, which makes her look just a little cuter. "Alter a personality, you say? Well ... maybe indirectly. I mean, if you use hotsim too often, especially if you take beetles, that'd alter your personality for sure, same way as drugs do. But alter the brain directly? That shouldn't be possible. Also, memories should be safe from datajack, unless they'd use it so extensively that they lose reality. What chips basically do is they feed the brain with info. Every info that can change your mind, can change it. But that's not more intense than virtual reality.
Unless it is not an ordinary datajack."

Scarcrow smiled back, trying to sort all the information he received. "Uhm... yeah, the chip feeds the brain with info, I get that. So when the chip is removed, no more info flowing? Everything goes like there was no chip?"

"Unless it is not an ordinary datajack? What else could it be? What could a chip inside a slot do with a person's brain?"

By the way, here are my rolls to look for a drug-dealer:
Area Knowledge: 2d6t5 0
Underground: 1d6t5 0
Hm, no drugs from my side, I guess. Sorry.

During the call, Scarcrow's gaze moved through the streets around him. He knew that Thamel was full of drug-dealers, but he couldn't think of anyone particular, especially not anyone particular in the business for memory-erasing-drugs.

"Yes. No. No more info following doesn't mean everything is like it was before. This is what I try to tell you, that's the difference between a skilljack and a datajack. In case of a skilljack: yes - you remove the chip, everything  is untouched. In case of a datajack ... well, let met put it in words you understand. If I torture you for days, deprive you of sleep and wetter, and then remove all that - no more pain, you can go home where you want - are you unscathed? No. Your brain has changed, and even if no more torture comes, you are marked. This is what happens to people who consume beetles, for example. They can remove the BTL, but their brain has adapted.

I ... I didn't mean something special. Just, well, there are kinds of chips. Everyone knows simsense or datachips. There were BTLs and it's said that some chips offered a more special kind of entertainment. 2XS, for example. I assume that there is an infinite amout of possibilities to influence something complicated as a brain with a flexible technology like datajacks.
Are we talking about something I wanna be talking about, Scarcrow?"

Mark sits down in a momo stand. Once he finishes his meal, he leans back and switches on his commlink.
The host is not difficult to see. From outside, the host presents itself an Ancient Egyptian pyramid. The gates, massive black obsidian portals, is shut.

A quick look at the host shows that it is a rating 4 business host.

pushing the view point closer to the pyramid Mark attempts to sleaze a mark out of the host in order to get in.

Opposed roll: 11d6t5 4

You approach the huge obsidian walls and find loose stones with arcane hieroglyphs in the door - a metaphor for a ID recognition system. You quickly run a dummy that records what kind of ID the door scans, then simulate a "green signal". You hold for breath for a moment, but when you push the stone with your hand, you recognize that the hieroglyphs start to gleam with a bright blue dim light - the host granted you access to enter it.

Scarcrow nodded. Those were words the uneducated troll could understand. "So basically, there's no way to undo such a change? Hm...
Weeell, maybe just drop the toppic. It was... hyopthetically, of course.
All right, dherai-dhanyabaad, bahini. "thank you very much, little sister" You've made a dumb trog a lot smarter. I owe you a drink."

If Liz has nothing to add, Scarcrow sends a summary of the information he got to his teamates.

Walking inside the pyramid Mark observed the matrix communication trying to figure out if there are hidden properties.
Matrix perception, Matrix perception: 10d6t5 4

His next actions were to search for information of interest regarding special data jacks or connection to the temple.
once inside the host Mark will perform matrix search to try and figure out if the things he is after are even there, it is an extended test and Mark will use the browse software to reduce time by half.
Matrix search: 10d6t5 4
Matrix search: 9d6t5 3
Matrix search: 8d6t5 3
Matrix search: 7d6t5 2

(can continue the search if needed)

"Sure, honey, I got a specialist right here. Don't worry!"
That said, Scarcrow cleanred his comlink the best he could and went for Mark. In the meantime he sent a message to Ashish aka "the rat", a smuggler with whom he had made business a couple of times.
<< Namaskar Ashish, Scarcrow here. I am in Thamel right now and looking for some special kind of medicine. Do you know a good address to turn to? Will send you details after reply.>>

Mark

What exactly do you mean with hidden properties of the matrix communication?

After about two minutes search, you do find something interesting. The file appears as a roll of papyrus, indicating it as a data file. At a closer inspection, it reveals appears to be a surgery protocol. The headline reads:
Surgical protocol:
Customer: Manisha Hatsumoto
Patient: Ambir
Treatment: Customized neurological/headware implant
date: Shrawan 16 2131

Fore more information, the file has to be opened.

Mark approaches the file, he already has a mark on the host so given the right communication he can edit the file and save it to his comlink.
A side of cation he first carefully observes the file and look for data bombs or other traps:

Matrix perception: 11d6t5 4

If the file is clear Mark will attempt to download it to his RCC with the edit file matrix action.

Edit File + edge: 14d6t5 3
Edit File + edge: 11d6t5 2
5 successes total let's hope it is enough.

If there is a data bomb Mark will attempt to defuse it, since the consequences of failing are severe (the file may be lost instead of just slightly higher overwatch) Mark will use magic to augment his logic before trying.

Improve logic: 14d6t5 5
drain: 13d6t5 5
no drain taken.
Disarm databomb: 15d6t5 8
(I'll read if there is some software that helps in that - but with such a good roll I doubt it makes a difference as the limit is data processing (7).
