Scruffy the shapeshifting PI needs help!

*insert cool backstory with hot bitches, guns and betrayal

I was gonna do a shapeshifter as an alternative character, Im most likely never gonna play. But I constantly seem to run out of karma and option when trying to create him.
That has mostly to do with both his race, metahuman form and his spells needs a lot of karma, which is a very limited resource in the priority system.
Heres what Ive got so far.

Priorities:
A-Attributes (24)
B-Skillz (35/5)
C- race (canine shapeshifter 10 karma)
D- aspected sorceror
E- bucks

Attributes:
Body: 3
Agility: 5
Reaction: 5 (incl +1 race)
Str: 3
Will: 6 (incl +1 race)

Intuition: 7 (incl +1 race)
Cha: 5 (incl +1 race)
mag: 5
Edge: 1 :/

Physical limit: 5 (7 in ork form)
Social limit: 8 (7 in ork form)
Mental limit: 7 (7 in ork form)

-10 canine shapeshifter
-10 shift ork metahuman form
- 4 school of hard knocks
- 5 mentor spirit?
+10 hobo with a shotgun
+15 silver allergy severe
-20 spells
= 1 karma left

Spells and rituals:
Was thinking about 2 detection spells and a combat spell + remote sensing ritual spell.

gear:
very little as he only has between 6 or 8K to play with.

As you can see I have very few spells, and I would like to keep the core of this character (canine, with shift metahuman: ork, investigator) intact.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to buff him a bit? cool qualities/spells/more spells/ more options/etc maybe with karma buy or life modules?

Bonus Q: I suppose when creating a character that the "maximum 1 stat at racial maximum" only counts for the Animal part and not metahuman part? So its actually RAW legal to have a shapeshifter walking around in troll form with charisma 4, logic 5, intuition 5 and agility 5 as a starting character. As long as the true form only has one stat at maximum?

Tried a quick build of Scruffy in life modules.
After Teen Years, you would have 460 karma, giving you enough for 3 life modules, boost Magic to 4, 6 spells, and a 100k.
Don't have the time right now to make a full build, will do that later today.

Neat. I did try life modules shortly. I mainly just took those that sounded cool and flavourful, not paying too much attention to bonuses. But that kinda left me worse off that regular karma buy :/
While I really like ritual spellcasting as a cool supporting skill, its pretty tough to work with when I have so few spells as an aspected sorceror :/

End note: disappointed with myself on this one.
Edit: If I went Magical Education / Corporate Wage Mage / Occult Investigator / PI, it would of ended up more magically inclined with the knowledge skills you wanted, but the other active skills would of suffered.

IŽll look into it with life modules. What modules did you use?
Otherwise it seems like this concept would need a lot more karma.

Making a shapeshifter in life modules is a nightmare at current karma prices.
Using a metatype besides human makes it even worse.
For mages, stick to priority or sum to ten for optimization.
