Amp

Amp (short for Amplifier) is a medium-to-small elf woman who has spent time working for the Yakuza in Seattle as something of a fixer - but not the sort that you're thinking about. She gets sent into operations to assess their weaknesses, shore them up and get things running smoothly. To this end, she was outfitted with a skillwire system to have the expertise available to take care of whatever was needed.

She eventually bought her way free slash was determined to be too volatile of an asset and ended up as a shadowrunner. Rather than stick with her haunts of Seattle, she made her way to the Chicago 'running scene a few years ago. It was in this time she befriended Timone, a crack wizard with anything tech. She sometimes goes to him for specialized software to make her 'wires run better, although she's not sure what they're about.

Seems nice but I have a few opinions/questions.
Why not rating 5 Skillwires? Used Skillwires r5 is availability 11.  If you skimp some (a lot) of none essentials I think you can afford synaptic booster instead of reflexes (save some essence) and pheromones rating 3.

I would also get automatics as a "real" skill and get Etiquette as skillsoft instead.

Basically, I ended up without being able to afford any Skillsofts at R5 without really sacrificing flexibility. I figure I can upgrade to R6 in play.

With Biocompatibility (Cyberware), I'm heading for Wired Reflexes + Reaction Enhancers. I plan to get the pheromones up in play and would rather have the well-rounded-ness, but it's a point!

Also - to you - what's a non-essential? Just out of curiosity?

I would also get automatics as a "real" skill and get Etiquette as skillsoft instead.
I guess I can see that. Although then I'd just get Etiquette as a R1 Skill and Automatics as an R5. It doesn't fit her background is all. She wouldn't have actually learned it when she can slot it.

Etiquette 6 is way overkill. I'd drop it and give specs to Con, Negotiation, and Intimidation.

Make sure you get the chip slotter thing for the skilljack.

Lose whatever you need to lose to get Tailored Pheromones 3 imo.

Non-essential are cheap or semi-cheap things you can get in game. Very hard for example to upgrade a synaptic booster in game. I prefer to buy low rating activesofts or languagesofts when you need them instead (or get them as part of payment). Internal commlink and skillsoft in groundcrafts is IMO not necessary. Same with your extra month of middle lifestyle. It adds up.

What are your recommended specs?

Chipjack? I couldn't figure out what it's useful for other than increasing the number of skillsofts I can run at a time. Since it only costs 6000 nuyen, I figure it can wait.

I took both of your advice to get the Tailored Pheromones, although I need a tick to update my sheet.

ETA: Sheet is Updated. Also managed to squeeze in the Skillwires R5.

Yeah, chipjack. I dunno, for someone so invested in softs, it seems like something you would want.

Con - Fast Talking
Negotiation - Bargaining
Intimidation - Interrogation

Oh and try to find a way to take First Impression.

Totally, once I get enough skillsofts that it becomes useful, I'll rock it, but right now I am under the limit by like 8 'softs.

Oh and try to find a way to take First Impression.
Sadly, that can't happen. I have too many positive qualities that are more core to the character as she exists in my head.

Those would be my suggestions as well.

You can always pick it up during play, for double the karma cost if I remember correctly. If it would still be cheap enough, it's worth considering, but if it become too pricey pass on it; it only works the first meeting anyway.

First Impression would cost 22 karma post-creation, so I find that a bit pricey. I mean, I could see it and it's definitely useful, but I can't squeeze it in without a massive rejigger and dropping a quality that is central to the character concept. To thine own self, etc, etc.

I wasn't able to take Intimidation (Interrogation) because I bought that skill with karma and don't have the karma to juggle it around another way.

At this point, I'm calling it pretty solid and I'm translating it to my Character Sheet for GameHoleCon. After that, it's just time to determine my backup characters...

First Impression is a great quality, but in Missions I don't think it has a very high ceiling.  In Missions you'll find yourself talking to the same circle of people over and over again.  So the first time you meet Simon Andrews, he's impressed with you.  But not the second, third, or forth time.  And so on.  In a generic campaign with higher turnover in cast, it's amazing.  In a living campaign, less so.

Amusingly, in my generic campaign, I'd say it would be less useful. They've used the same Fixer most of the time and most of my custom runs are call-back runs or in some other way deal with characters and contacts they've already made.

That said, I'd say it's way less useful for Johnsons and it's more of a gathering intel kind of ability.

I'm wondering if I can get Skillsofts to be treated like augmentations in terms of upgrading them. It would be really swank if I could just spend 12k nuyen to take a Disguise 4 Activesoft to a Disguise 6 Activesoft, rather than the full 30k for the 6 and have the 4 hanging around with its thumb up its butt.
