[Sunday, 207506021243L]

The rains seem to have subsided in the middle of May and it's been fairly sunny since then.  Ever since the beginning of the century, it seems that the amount of days you get to see the sun in Seattle have doubled, good ol' climate change.  We just had to trade off Los Angeles or something.  Worth it.

With those sunny days comes a bit of warmth and Seattle is enjoying the first half of summer!  Saturday was a rare day of getting to take care of yourself, hitting the 3d trid theater's with a friend or grabbing a bite to eat somewhere delicious.  Maybe going out to the club.  Anyway, you slept in this morning and find yourself waking up to the sound of your commlink buzzing.

@ Angus

<<Angus [McCogni] Wakey wakey, beefcake.  Got something for you, if you're interested.  It's not family but I don't anticipate anything coming up that you can't take this meet.  Fella named Lucien wants to meet at Lake Fenwick Park in north Tacoma, by the tennis courts.  You'll be looking for an Atzlaner with a scar on his face.  he wants folks to be there by 3, should give you plenty of time to get that way.>>

@ Forty

<<Forty [XXXXX] Got your commcode from a mutual friend in the Sidhe Devils.  She tells me you are looking for work.  If that's true, then I've got something you might be cut out for, head to Lake Fenwick Park in Tacoma.  I need you there at 3 to meet me and the team.  See you if you're interested.>>

@ Henway

Henway sits in the diner, scarfing down his lunch when the door swings open.  Looking back, he sees Stone walk in.  The hobgoblin looks around the diner before sidling up next to the massive troll.

"Just the trog I was looking for," he says as he grabs a menu from the waitress.  As she walks away, he peruses it while continuing on.  "You said you were looking for work, just so happens, I got a line on something.  Some place called Lake Fenwick, at 3.  Something about tennis courts, so you'll probably need to look for those.  In Tacoma."

@ Kachina

Kachina spends her morning preparing her lodge, anticipating another day of delving into the deeper mysteries, when she gets the message.

<<Kachina [Manny] Hey, babe!  Hope you didn't have anything going on today too important.  I just got a call from a friend who needs a helping hand or two or six.  You got the time to meet him?  His name's Lucien and he'll be at Lake Fenwick Park in Tacoma, he'll be there at 3.  There will be a payment of red at the end of it all, I'm sure.>>

@ Ravener

<<Ravener [Michele] Hey DJ, you take requests? lol  I got a few things on my plate today and was wondering if you might be able to take a drive down to Lake Fenwick Park to meet with a chummer of mine.  Name's Lucien.  Sure it'll be worth your while, he doesn't deal in nickel and dime bullshit.>>

@ VanGuard

<<VanGuard [Joey] Still hard up for cash?  Figure I can toss this your way.  Tacoma, Lake Fenwick Park at 3 with an Atzlaner named Lucien.>>
That's just like... your opinion, man.

<<Manny [Kachina], if he's a friend of your then you can count on me. Plus I may need a change of scenery, been spending a lot of days inside my small apartment lately, my skin will welcome the sun instead of that acidic rain. I can get the six pair of hands if needs be. Send me a visual of that friend of yours, please.>>

Kachina looked at her commlink. 9am. She had some time before the meet. Smart Johnson picked a public place. She wondered if she should call the runners she met last month. They were skilled and professional, something Kachina as definitely looking for in the team she wanted to build. Or she could just wait for the meet and see if maybe new faces would be involved.

She prepared herself with painting her face. This time it was more subtle than usual: three slashes of paint on her right cheek and two on her forehead would do. She completed the artistic design with some lipstick and a lighter ochre line on the middle of her lower lip.

It was still early but she had a few errant in mind she needed to cover.

The shower was cold, but that reminder of prison life got her survival instincts going.  "Couldn't tell, but the fragger who called is probably human, and Tacoma is a long way from home, call it enemy ground.  Gotta do my best not to attract trouble -- best not to take the gun, or even prep spells until I'm down there.".

Looking through her few possessions she put on her armored vest and threw a cool weather vest over top.  It would be a bit warm, but at least it covered the armor.  She shoved shock gloves in the vest pockets, grabbed her 'link, and realized she'd run out of possessions.  After a moment she grabbed a safety pin and  a ball-point pen from her sister's supplies, then realized she was stalling  "OK Forty, it's a job, sure you need this, but they need you too, get your fraggin attitude on."  She sucked back a few deep breaths, snapped a few punches and a kick into the air, then headed out to one last stop.

At the Shinto shrine her sister had improvised out of the rubble of a burnt out building.  Forty sketched a quick thanks to the spirits, followed by a promise to Thunderbird to do him proud  "Not sure where Sylvia is, probably looking to spend what I made last night on a new chip.  But just as well, I don't have time for a fight about whether I'm doing Shinto right."  Gathering her will, Forty then called upon an ancestral spirit (Spirit of Man) to come and aid her today.

That done, she finally took the first steps towards what was hopefully her first serious job.

The day was long, always too damn fragging long.

"I need to get a fragging job that doesn't have any fragging strings attached, but its too damned late for that..." VanGuard muttered rather loudly as he pulls a nicely cold beer out of the fridge.  Living paycheck to paycheck has its perks, but stress free is most assuredly not one of them.

Sitting in front of the trid, on the shared sofa, flipping channels, looking for something that might be useful until sweet beautiful bliss scrolled across his vision.

<<VanGuard [Joey] Still hard up for cash?  Figure I can toss this your way.  Tacoma, Lake Fenwick Park at 3 with an Atzlaner named Lucien.>>

"Hot damn, if you were here right now I would kiss you." VanGuard exclaims as he passionately smooches his Erika Elite. Cutting his eyes around, despite knowing that no one was home right now, as it was work time for Kayla. "I better not repeat that to anyone, it would probably not be the most professional thing to do at this particular time.

<<Joey [VanGuard] I always have time for you.  I will be there.  I owe you for the lead, noodles are on me next time we meet. [Image of cyberhand explodey fist bumping a normal hand]>>

"I have a couple hours, so lets finish this beer and get decent for a meet.  Drek, I should make sure the Fly-Boys are good to go.  I hate being caught with my pants down."

Another pause, then he continues. "And while I'm askin', dis just a first meet or do I need to show up ready to roll?   Some o' my gear ain't exactly street friendly, if you know wut I mean.  I figger it's betta ta be prepared, make da right impression."

Walking through Touristville was almost pleasant.  The nice weather had brought in a good load of outsiders, so locals were all busy trying to extract the maximum nuyen from the visitors while they could.  Calls of "Hottest noodles in Seattle!" "Cheap beer" and "Enter our den of pleasures" competed with musical buskers and the recorded music accompanying a dancer.  Maybe a dancer, possibly a contortionist, but dance styles had changes so much that Forty still wasn't sure.

Either way, mostly a distraction for the kids circulating through the crowd, looking for valuables to filch fromm the unwary.  Forty came near that crowd and she saw the pickpockets ease away from her path, recognizing a more dangerous predator when they saw it.

Definitely a good day in Touristville.

If she'd had time, and more nuyen on her credstick she might even have wanted to stay and enjoy the atmosphere.  As it was, she strode quickly through on her way to reach public transit. For probably the hundredth time she ran through her priority list "Get job.  Do job.  Get paid. Get a bit better apartment.  Then fragging learn how to drive, and get a ride of some sort!"

Near the bus stop she stopped to grab fried tofu from a hole-in-the-wall.  Food back in touristville was probably better, but she hadn't had time to slow down and eat--that she could do while waiting for the fragging bus.  "Job, job, pay, apartment, wheels!"

When she'd finished scraping the last of the unnaturaly green sauce from the bowl she discarded it, but sucked the last of the sauce off the disposable chopsticks, then carefully returned them to their packaging.

Wait.  Bus.  Wait.  Train.  Wait.  Another Bus.  Wait.  Final Bus, and finally there was the park. "JobjobpayapartmentWHEELS!"

Checking her link and realizing she still has fifteen minutes to spare, Forty quickly finds a bench where she can sit for a bit while making magical preparations.  With pin and pen she marks up the chopsticks she’d pocketed earlier, her nimble fingers not bothered by the narrow working surface.  Symbols in place she frowns at the chopsticks—she’s pretty sure no proper Shinto priest would recognize them, but hopefully the spirits will be more flexible.

Then for the hard part, coaxing the kami to infuse magic into the sticks.  By the time she’s done she finds her lower lip tender from how hard she’s been chewing on it, but she has her magic wands of mind talking.  Well, magic plastic chopsticks, but they’ll do the job.  They aren’t all that powerful, and the first one she did will do well to last an hour but the second worked out better--good thing she'd marked them differently to be able to tell them apart.  Anyway they are for imminent use and don’t need much power -- The priest who had taught her this invocation had well understood the limit of the new apprentice and had chosen a good spell for a learner.  Too bad that he’d been such an arrogant prick that after three lessons she’d blown up at him, and he hadn’t returned.

As she finishes the process she carefully returns the chopsticks to their packaging,  protecting them from being touched until it is time to make use of their stored magic.  Checking her link she sees that she still has five minutes until the meet, plenty of time to walk through the park to, uh …

And then Forty finally realizes that she doesn’t know where in the park the meet is to take place.

She snarls a curse to herself as she briskly starts striding towards the centre, but then composes her thoughts and calls to the spirit of man she’d summoned earlier (although letting it stay on the astral).  “Most honored kami, please aid me in finding those that I seek.  Within this park, this natural space bound by the roads, I think you could find either someone who is awakened, or whose essence has been cut at least in half as they turn themselves into more of a machine than a person.  Please search for such a person then guide me to them.”  As she starts looking around for likely individuals or gatherings using her own eyes she thinks “Let’s hope that the stereotypes of ‘runners are right, and that whoever else is coming to this meet are the only such ones in the park today!

<<For my favorite Lady, of course.  I will be there.>>  Ravener replies as he pulls himself out of bed and turns on the Soycaf machine.  'As long as the pay's decent I can finally pay off what I owe her,' he thinks to himself as he works his way through the latest Needle Net posts and checks his latest club reviews.

'Clouds are stirring, might rain tonight' drifts across his mind as a Raven caws from the rafters of his loft. 'I know, eyes open.  I learned after the last time.  I just prefer my eyes to be in the digital world.' I reply to the spirit.  Grabbing my go bag, but leaving the sniper kit I head down to my wheels and out to the meet.  While GridGuide handled the driving, I focused on trying to pull up some info on 'Lucien' as well as a map of the park and what kind of neighborhood surrounded it.

After parking, I carefully scoped out the park for hidden icons and to look out for high end comlinks.  'Wonder what the job is' I muse as I get ready to get out and find the Johnson.

With a good hour to spare before the meet, Kachina relaxed on a bench, covered her eyes with her sunglasses and astrally project. She never went further than 100m away from her body, keeping a close look on the activity around her.

With the return of the nice weather, she could feel the joy in the people and the vibrant aura of the nature around her. Only when she spotted people with much more worried and alert auras did she knew things were about to get interesting.

Angus rises and listens to the link, smiles, and replies. “Thank you for the opportunity sir. I’ll be sure to represent you well.” He hangs up and hears a quit yawn over the comlink.
With a hopeful tone Lilith whispers. “Was it the crow again?”  Angus look across the room at the gun. “You know he doesn’t like that name.” he states flatly. “So it was him.” Lilith retorts triumphantly. He grunts and walks to the other room to pack his supplies.  In a practiced sing song tone Lilith continues ignoring his annoyance “He is the Morrigan’s messenger so his title is crow, besides he choose my personality, he has no right to complain.”
Returning to the room with the cello case loaded and his jacket on Angus removes the bayonet form Lilith and sheaths it at his belt. “And he didn’t know what he was buying when he did. Other wise I doubt we would be together.” “Now that’s a fret, thinking of you with out me.” “I’d manage, but it would be lonely.” He says as he picks up Lilith and straps her in the case.
Closing the cased he rises and turns out the lights in his little apartment. HE locks all the doors and heads out through the maze of alleyways to the street. He walks another block out to his motorcycle and drives towards the park picking up a simple meal on the way. He slowly approaches the tennis courts a half an hour early. Finds a conspicuous bench and waits for the atslaner with a scar. He enjoys this small bit of peace in the park while he can.

@ Ravener

A matrix search on Lucien doesn't pull up anything helpful.. Trying to narrow it down to Seattle Shadow Community seems like it would help, but not before arriving at the park and seeing the man that must be your Johnson, clad in a denim jacket over a stylized undershirt and wearing a beanie.  He's hispanic and sitting on a table with his feet on the bench, watching around.  A quick peek at him in AR finds his commlink and some hidden devices as well.  You make out a white noise generator under the table and a second commlink but haven't had time to pry before you notice others approaching.

@ VanGuard

VanGuard manages to find a picture of Lucien and when he sends his fleet of spy drones out, they find him relaxing in the park near the tennis courts.  Further investigation of the area doesn't seem to net any dangers, but that doesn't necessarily mean one can throw caution to the wind.

@ Kachina

It is indeed a nice day to be outside and Kachina draws herself back to her body after noticing a man sitting at a nearby bench 'waiting', a heavily cybered and LARGE astral form slowly making an approach, and the arrival of an awakened individual with at least the raw power to match the Spirit-Witch.

@ Henway

"It's a latino, goes by Lucien.  And for kit?  Dunno, but it's not the barrens, omae.  I'm just passing the message, you gotta do what you gotta do."

Henway nods and finishes his meal before leaving and making his way to the location.  Arriving at the park he can easily see a few others spending their day in the sun as well as a hispanic man sitting on a table.

@ Forty

Unfortunately, the park is not sparsely populated.  However, there appears to be a confluence of individuals near the Tennis courts and a man sitting on a table who appears to be 'waiting.'

@ Angus

Angus arrives to the park without incident and even manages to relax a little before making his way to the tennis courts.  He immediately spots the Atzlaner and beelines towards him, subtlety not amongst his better traits.
That's just like... your opinion, man.

VanGuard arrives a half hour early, 14:33:29, according to his cybereyes. Scoping out a parking spot with a good overview of the meet location, he sends the Fly Boys, as he calls his trio of MCT Fly-Spies, through an AR command, to start canvassing the park, sending their image to VanGuard's image link.

VanGuard does a once over of his gear, checking that everything is in place. He decides to load up his wrapper program to disguise the icon of his console as a Metalink. Confident that he has done all he can before hand, he grabs his console in his left hand and plugs the DNI cable into his control rig's datajack, just in case he needs to jump in to something and to have a leg-up on any would-be hackers. As he jumps out of the Bulldog, he sends another AR command to link the Bulldog's sensors to his image link as well.

"This ought to be a straight forward meet.  Famous last words, right? Heh" VanGuard says to no one in particular. No, this feels good; nevertheless, guard up.

VanGuard finds an empty park bench with a good vantage point of Lucienand takes a seat. Depending on who shows up, this could be quite the interesting job. VanGuard will wait until  14:57 to approach Lucien, unless anyone approaches him first

Seeing the convergence towards the tennis courts, Forty sighs in relief and speeds her steps that way.  As the various characters converge she slows a bit while scanning them all in disbelief.

By the time she gets close to the hispanic punk she's laughing openly, and sniggers: "Let's see, we got some metahuman thugs, a Nanner, weird cyber, and" indicating the colourful Ravener with a nod of her head "a freak.  Let me guess: you are casting for a low budget trid, and asked for "a standard group of 'runner criminals,' to be knocked down by blonde haired, blue eyed, square-jawed human Johnny Awesome, with a bit of help from his best gal-pal Betty Boobalicious?"

She quickly adds "If that IS the case Chummer, as long as it pays OK I'm in.  Course if you are looking for something more real, as long as it pays OK I'm probably interested too, but I'll want more details first.  Oh, and you can call me 'Forty' -- or 'mouthy elven thug number one' if that's easier to remember."

With that she starts strolling a few steps back and forth, fiddling with the chopstick package.  To her spirit she calls "The other favour I would ask of you today is to scan this man sitting before us, and to let me know the state of his spirit."

Once she has the information she gives a mental bow to the spirit -- then calls upon Bolt, one of her favourite spirits of Air.  She fails to brace herself spiritually well, and physically staggers briefly as she feels much of her energy town away by the always hungry spirit.  She lets the spirit astrally soar above the open field for now, and regains some of her swagger as she imagines the cloudlike Redtail Hawk with its lightning bolt legs soaring over the park, looking down upon the metahumans there, and thinking "Prey!"

Thirty minutes before the scheduled meet, the sounds of a Harley cuts through the afternoon near Lake Fenwick.  Finding space to park his bike in the public lot, Henway swings off of the bike, checks the security system that he knows wouldn’t stop any pro from stealing his ride, and shrugs as he slowly makes his way into the park.

He meanders around, getting a sense of the park’s layout before approaching the area near the tennis courts.  Seeing the hispanic man sitting on a table, he moves in that direction a few minutes before the scheduled meet.

He looks over the woman who arrives just before him, but does not address her.  He nods to the man, and rumbles softly, “Stone sent me.”

Noting that the crowd assembling around Lucien is, in fact, mostly the people in the park that VanGuard had pegged as being the other runners called to meet the Johnson; VanGuard decides to go ahead and approach the group.  14:54:56.  This group is punctual, that is good.  With a few gestures, he summons one of his Fly Boys to hover about 1m behind and 1m above him at his 7 o'clock.

"Good day. Lucien, I presume? I am VanGuard; I am here regarding a message I received earlier today."  VanGuard states as he falls in to form a semblance of a semi-circle around Lucien, with the other chummers who are here, and offers his hand to Lucien.  He then quickly attempts eye-contact with everyone else who has assembled, nodding at them if they establish eye-contact.

Ettiquette roll for greeting Lucien: Ettiquette roll: 6d6t5 3 hits // DP:6 = CHA (3) + Ettiquette (2) + Berwick Suit [wireless bonus] // Limit: 5 = Mental (4) + Berwick Suit (1)

Here it was, the part Kachina hated the most. Each runner would enter into a pissing contest to show how badass they are, to establish their dominance for some, hiding their insecurity for others. Everyone putting themselves in harm's way, for the sake of making a few extra Nuyens. This was the exact reason she'd always wanted her own team, so a meet could go as it should, with the specialists taking care of the negotiation and the others covering their asses instead of gathering all together at the same place eyeing and judging everyone, paranoid about what is going next.

Well, here she was too.

She was really impressed with the huge Troll and even more, to see a second one, smaller but none the less imposing. But her attention was fully drown by the awaken Elf  woman. For some reason she couldn't pinpoint yet she felt very connected to her.

Greeting Everyone. She said as if directing the meet. I'm the Spirit Witch, but most just call me Kachina.Quite an eclectic group of people you have brought here, amigo. This time addressing Lucien directly. Unless you'd like to continue with small talks I'm sure all of us here would love to hear what is it you need from us.
