Is there a good carbine sized longarms skill based rifle in any edition?

what shadowrun Shotgun is the Closest Match to the milspec benelli M4? (7+1 ammo capacity)

If I were to use Archery, which would be better: Crossbow or Bow with Strength boost adept power?

5e has a Springfield M1A (Gun H(e)aven 3).

There are some shotguns that look like an M4 or perform like it. AFB right now but that's GH3 too.

Hard Targets have those new bow rules exactly for that situation but I'm yet to test them, so can't help you with that. But Boost Strength is pretty niche, I can think of some better powers. A qi focus with Boost Str may be useful though.

Qi focus is what I was considering if I were to go with a bow, because it can do double duty for melee weapons as well...

while waiting for people to find and read my questions I did find the Remington 990 in run and gun, but am curious about other options too.

Strength Boost won't do anything for DV. It only effects dice pools on tests using the attribute, not the attribute itself.

so it also would not allow the use of a higher rating bow

Personal opinion is that crossbows beat bows as there is no strength requirement. Saves pumping attributes points into that for little benefit to anything else. Pistol Crossbow with stick and shock heads on static shafts hit really hard and is concealable. Slingshot with capsule rounds, dmso and narcoject also very concealable and silent, plus non-lethal

As I read Hardtarget bow rating caps at 10. The issue I have with bow adept, is ya can't get a weapon focus bow. So while the concept is fun, and with alchemy maybe viable, I don't think it's really that useful compared to other options.

You CAN have a weapon focus bow.
Just like you CAN have a weapon focus gun.

They just don't provide ANY bonus to shooting at all. (But can be used as magical clubs, sticks.... to beat on people with).

Same with weapon focus arrows and bullets....
You CAN do it... it just provides you with jack all bonuses (as the arrows and bullet leave your aura they deactivate... and are probably destoryed on impact)

Not the best use of karma and money..... but you can do it. ;D

Bows are also better if you have other interest in STR investment.

In my current game, our B&E/sniper guy really likes bows and garrotes.
Playability > verisimilitude.

Yeah if you've got high strength anyways, it's no drama picking up bows. If bows are the only reason you're taking high strength, might be worth considering crossbows instead and putting the attributes into something else

And though you may be hindered in putting a Weapon Focus to good effect, attuning a bow with Attune Item can make it more accurate than sniper rifles.

This.

But consider making your ranged weapon of choice a Qi focus (Improved ability X). It is not a real weapon focus but at least it kinda works.
