Watching the old tv series sliders and a couple of episodes got me wondering which of two situations they encounter people would prefer to wind up in. Now assuming you got tossed into some other world with no choice in the matter which of these would you prefer. First one you wind up in a world (that diverged at some point in the past but not one of the one's on the edge of human extinction or a world where your double's still around) where your just a nobody, not living on the streets but your nothing special get up, go to work, go home. Second one is a world that seems to be everything you ever wanted married to the childhood crush with a respectful kid, one where the world looks up to mental achievement whatever it is you have everything you ever wanted fame, fortune, a loving family, whatever.

Personally I'd prefer the first one I've seen to many episodes in to many shows (not just this one) where the wonderful glory has a nasty sting in the tail and if I wound up in a universe where I had a small fortune, a private yacht and all with the leisure to just travel and see the world I'd always be looking over my shoulder for whatever nasty surprise it had hidden illegaly obtained wealth, kidnappers, lethal illness whatever it was I'd never be able to relax. Especially when whatever me got that has dissapeared even if its explained.

That's not very shadowrunnery of you. Even if the second world has a sting, it sounds like you'd be able to experience a much wider range of experiences. (Being rich and loved is a nice bonus)

Until you find out your husband/wife is divorcing you because you were cheating on them with a college student and the FBI is about to arrest you for a wide range of criminal activities. ;D Don't get me wrong there's a lot of worlds I'd leap into with both eyes open, I'd even take up a trip to the shadowrun one if I were guaranteed a way back (sometime, after many horrible adventures and I've saved the world or at least I believe that's the standard deal and there's some procedures I'd love to get my paws on. If I got to gain a established runners skills by making a new char and getting what I picked all the better). I just get suspicious of a deal that's too good to be true. Like I said too many old tv shows where its Peace, love, happiness now we've removed all your race's resistance out you we've got our new slaves.

Depends of course if it's a tv tropes world, or a real one. In the real one, the second world has massive advantages over the first.

Well its meant to be a real world just different e.g. America didn't enter WW2, England didn't start the Opium war with China, Japan didn't treat other asian countries with disdain when they conquered them and so on. Second world probably should be the choice you make I'm just too paranoid to feel comfortable with it.
