After the team had finished their discussions and preparations it was time to take a look at Valmont's. The restaurant was part of the Empire Hilton hotel right across from Council Island. Security was tight but discreet. Guests about to enter had their SINs scanned and checked up against the reservation file. This was followed by a discreet millimeter wave scanner. According to bnc's research it was an older model with the main feature of being subtly integrated into a doorway. The whole of the restaurant was protected by a mana barrier, supported by a salary mage in the employ of the hotel. 
After passing this hurdle you only had to wait in line to be seated or go to the bar.
The decor was a subtle homage to the Tir courts with lot's of silver and forest green as well as heavy, dark, wooden furniture with organic, curving design. Heavy cloth drapes were reminiscent of a leaved canopy and provided a sound dampening, supported by subtle white noise from countless faux springs and desk fountains.


To enter you have to get past a Rating 3 SIN scanner, an R 4 millimeter wave scanner and a Force 5 mana barrier

Slobbertooth sees the line outside the restaurant, and realizes how woefully out of place he's going to be if he walked in with Torrent. I need to buy a suit... and get a haircut... and trim my beard.

No cyber on me to be detected, no spirits that will come in with me to get broken up with a mana barrier, but I only have a rating 4 SIN (see items to get improved in the upcoming months) and will stick out like a sore thumb. I probably won't be very helpful inside the restaurant unless you needed to me to cause a distraction anyway.

Bluebird is specifically interested in knowing if the mana barrier is on the astral plane, physical plane, or dual-natured.

She also only has a rating 4 SIN, so it's probably best for her not to go in. Also, I have to update the character sheet - I bought a summoner license pre-game, so she does have one but again it's not the best rating.

"I don't think I can get in there, but I may be able to send a spirit in through the mana barrier. The mage will probably see it, though - so if you want I can just have it on standby." She paused for a moment, "Let me know what you need from me. I'm happy to keep Slobbertooth company."

The barrier is dual-natured.

Also you have a good chance to get through a R3 SIN reader: It's only got 6 dice to reach 4 successes.

I guess I'm just nervous about burning a SIN as the very first thing I do with the team. I'm also not 100% sure what the plan actually is and who all they want going in (in and out of character).

With 6 dice, they only have a 10% chance to burn it. You can actually do things to help while you're in there as compared to "guy who shoots things." I'd say it's worth it.

SIN: 6d6t5 2 Didn't crack my fake SIN. I don't have any weapons with me. I have licenses for both my cyberdeck (which is turned off and will likely go as a commlink) and my shock hands.

The team entered the restaurant without any complains from the SIN scanner. Torrent briefly wondered why the system was so weak until he realized that the guests here probably took offence to having their retinas scanned or DNA samples taken before being allowed to enter the premises - privilege working to the runners advantage.

The millimeter wave scanner also proved to be no problem, thanks to up to date licenses and the absence of any problematic hardware.

Now all they had to do was pass the scrutiny of the hostess

Just as a rule question: As I don't have etiquette, I have to default, thus I roll CHA-2, i.e. 1 die. Since I don't have a skill rating, I can also not benefit from teamworking, right? In that case I guess I should spend one point of edge...

A line had formed and moved only slowly forward as the hostess - a dark skinned elf with a black pony tail - greeted the guests and looked at their reservations. The overwhelming majority was sent towards the bar.
As Torrent and bnc arrived at the front, they easily bypassed that obstacle by discreetly indicating, that they wouldn't be occupying a table for long. The generous tip that Torrent slipped the man didn't hurt either.
Their table for two was directly next to the kitchens, but otherwise quite shielded from view. The restaurant was packed to capacity and quite a lot of local celebrities could be spotted.
A young ork in a spotless apron handed them their menus - real leather bound ones - and vanished instantly again.
