Why did all his friends always insist on running into danger? 'Jealous that you aren't the one running into it?' 'Shut up'
Isaint had little time to contemplate if he was truly talking to his patron or was just going insane with all the voices trying to talk to his brain without bothering with his ears.
Instead he kept firing at all the shadows that headed towards Al and Robyn. In a way those two were lucky: Without open eyes for the astral they didn't even see just how many shadows there were hidden behind concealing veils. He did his best to fell the most pressing threats, but even so he was forced to watch his chummers fighting for their lives against the ones he couldn't stop in time.
When the explosion hit, he noticed for the first time that Rick had returned to his side. <<Glad to see you alive and well.>>
The portal had shrunken to a pinhole, but as the dust began to settle he could already see the pseudopodes beginning to enlarging the rip again.
<<Right, enough heroism for now, fall back to where we came from. Time to go War of the Worlds on this alien fucker.
Keep going, Rick was kind enough to give us super speed to play with.>>

To demonstrate his, Isaint took a leap backwards, planting himself 20 m away from the now crumbling hall and firing at a Shadow that thought he could sneak up on him by climbing on the outside wall.
<<Now, MOVE!>>

Alyce barely has time to fully take in all of the information that her sensors are giving her.  There are too many spirits that she can see, which leads her to wonder just how many she cannot see.  She notes Rick's appearance next to ISaint just before his message reaches them and she is glad that they have not lost another companion.  She spares a quick moment of thought for her Hell Hound companion, but then ISaint's own message comes across and she  realizes that time is too short for that sort of pain just now.  Besides, the pillar that had given them its protection is beginning to crumble; the spiderwebs of cracks caused by the explosion have weakened it significantly.  Alyce and Al stand to leave and she makes a small jump away before turning back to the pillar, a crazy thought in her mind.

The pillar supports part of the roof that has not collapsed yet and its removal would send large chunks of rock down on whoever is beneath that section of the roof.  The collapse is imminent, but perhaps she can give it a push.  In a brief span of time she prays to her God, to the voodoo spirits, and the Dragon to protect Al and leaps back out of his embrace toward the pillar, relying on the surprise of her movement to break free of his grasp.  She has to go back to the pillar................its girth is too much for her whip to encircle if she is away from it by more than a foot or two.  Her move has caught Al by surprise, at least for a second, and she takes advantage of that brief time before he comes back for her, knowing full well that will do just that instead of doing the smart thing, which is to continue running for ISaint and the exit from the building.

Plenty of ballerinas have made a more graceful spin, but Alyce is not interested in grace right now.  She wants power behind her swing and she gets it, both from what strength the Dragon has lent her and the unnatural speed that Rick has provided her.  Alyce's arm sweeps out and the monofilament edge of the whip wraps completely around the pillar and a bit more.  She cries out as she yanks on the whip, pulling it through the cracked stone of the pillar in one mighty movement, going off balance and staggering back into the firm embrace of Al's arms.  He is cursing at her something fierce, some of it in languages even Alyce does not know, but all Alyce can do is smile.  He has come back as she had felt he would.  She is safe now, because nothing can harm her in that protection.

It takes a few seconds for anything to really happen.  After all, her slice was exceptionally thin and it takes the stones of the mighty pillar a short amount of time to realize what has been done to it.  Seconds of time pass almost in slow motion as Al drags Alyce towards ISaint and Rick, who are providing covering fire against the tide of spirits that can sense that two of their tormentors have delayed too long.  One, three, five spirits go down to the withering fire, but there are just too many.  Then, with a loud crack that must have been heard far from this place, the pillar snaps, collapsing on itself in a shower of stone, wood, and dust, bringing with it a large section of the roof above.  Most of the spirits chasing after Al and Alyce are crushed by the falling debris, any immunity they had overcome by the tons of rock falling upon them.  The three that escape that fate are quickly brought down by ISaint's skill as Al guides Alyce to sanctuary.

The combination of the Dragon blasting through, Al''s magnificently planned explosion, and the collapse of the pillar has weakened the structural integrity of the roof to the point where a huge slap of stone teeters for a second then separates from the rest of the roof, coming down in one massive piece.  The spirits below have no warning and are crushed out of existence by the stone that almost completely covers the growing pit.  Almost.  Certainly there is a delay in the actions of the Entity beyond, for even it was not prepared for what has just happened, but it recovers quickly.  A good bit of its aperture had been closed again, but it redoubles its efforts to break free.  Perhaps it senses that the puny mortals arrayed against it have used their last bit of luck and are now unable to prevent it from coming through the hole.  Many of its worshipers have been slain and it will have to do the rest of the work mostly by itself, but that is of little import just now.  It WILL escape and it WILL punish those who have labored to delay it.  The Entity spares precious seconds imaging the humiliation and torture it will inflict upon the Dragon Slayer's prized follower and his minions.

Al and Alyce arrive at ISaint's side and look back on what they have wrought.  Al is still cursing her as she reaches a hand into a pocket of her dress and pulls two slightly crinkled Lucky Strikes from a dented pack and shoves one into his mouth.  He does not stop his ranting at her as she digs a battered Zippo lighter from another pocket and lights the cigarettes. "Thank you, Al, for caring." She looks at ISaint and Rick and smiles.  "And what do you two have planned as an encore?"

"Exit Stage Left - come on, there are two many ears around us to discuss any plans - even if I had any idea whatsoever how we could defeat this thing.
But look on the bright side: The brides' hide is over and they are truly wed. So no more hanging around in this little slice of hell."

<<Seriously, let's get out of here so we can come back with the weapon.>>

Alyce/Robyn laughs as she blows smoke rings in the air.  "I have to say that you three sure know how to show a girl a bloody good time.  I am all for getting away.  Lead on."

>>No arguments here, but I hope that we can do this quickly.  That thing is delayed, not stopped and it will soon have the hole big enough to come through.<<

As the four gathered amid the fleeing refugees outside the collapsing hall, Al broke off cursing at Alyce to clap a hand on Rick's shoulder before they began their sprint to the exit from this place.

"Ain't never been happier ta see a practicin' Satanist alive an' well."

And then they were off, covering the plains between them and the astral rift at a breathtaking pace - Al suspected that the powers of Rick's spirit to accelerate them were multiplied by the unreality of this place, and it seemed mere moments before they had reached their destination. Even from afar they could see the cataclysm atop the hill where the keep had once stood, and the nearly opened aperture was clearly visible, now barely containing the Entity that sought entry to this world.

Now that they were here, the question was whether their nefarious payload was awaiting them on the other side....

Alyce is still smoking her second fag when the four reach their wait point.  She looks at her remaining companions between drags.  "OK, so is this the part where we rock-paper-scissors who gets to take the thing to the bloody hole?  Or are you three going to admit I might be the best option to get the case in?  After all, without my Hell Hound, there is almost no risk of contamination for me personally..  Good or bad idea?"

"Bad idea. I'm wearing a full body armor with a chemical seal and I've got a personal beef with that Nightmare spirit to settle. Beside that, you have to live with the people of Below - and if I've learned anything than that those guys have a hard time recognizing extenuating circumstances. If anyone should be at fault of releasing a biological weapon of mass destruction turning that metaplane into an uninhabitable wasteland, it probably should be the guy they already hate.
Besides, it's my bloody hard shell case. Speaking of wich..."

Through the excitedly babbling refugees, the shimmering form of a materialized air spirit was zooming with uncanny speed. A second later, it dropped the aforementioned case into Rick's hands.

"And besides: You still can get sick from those buggers. The infection is what made them dangerous to both dual natured and non-dual natured.
On the other hand we are all taking those super-antibiotics at the moment, so we likely would be able to resist a second infection if we don't breath in a concentrated dose."

Al resented Alyce's implication that she was the only one free of Satan's taint - the Good Lord knew he didn't have an Awakened bone in his body. But, as Isaint pointed out, the crap they were dealing with targeted the bewitched and the pure-hearted alike.

And now, as usual, everyone wanted to be the hero, and they didn't have time to argue about it. Al figured if they wanted the privilege, they were welcome to it. Except that didn't exactly sit right with the white Akita, and he'd made certain commitments.

"Isaint's right - he's the best pertected, an' it's his case. So he goes. Rick, he's gotta stay, cuz he goes down, we lose the speed we need to git the hell outta Dodge. But Al's taggin' along fer the delivery. Simple math. Too many hippie demons out there ta be sure jist one of us gits through to make the drop-off - delivery boy's gotta have back up. An' the back up can't be Alyce, cuz she's a womern. So let's go."

Al's simplistic logic defies all reason, but Alyce simply walks up to him and kisses him, putting all of her love into that one kiss.  "You come back if you want any more of those, Al."  She reaches into her pocket and pulls out the pack  of Lucky Strikes.  "And here, you take these for on the way.  Just try to bring me back the case..............it means something to me.  Now go and send that fucker all the way back to bloody hell.  I will be waiting right here until you return, so be quick about it and try to keep ISaint alive as you do.  You will always and forever be the man I need.  Ta."

She steps back, trying like all hell to keep the tears from her eyes and succeeding until he turns away and leaves her standing where she will be forever if he does not return.

"Don't worry, if everything works as planned, we will be in and out before you know it - at least as long as Rick's spirit keeps us fueled with super speed."
Isaint took the hard shell case and worked the number lock so that it would pop open at the push of the button. "Here, take my rifle - damn rule of three."
He nodded at Rick and Al:
"Alright. Time to lower the real estate value of a meta plane. Al you cover me, while I run around the collapsed building, spreading the FAB. If the metaphor works I'll probably spread some kind of visible miasma. Once the circle is complete we get the fuck out of there.
One, two, go..."

And with that Isaint jumped back through the portal.

Al followed close on the tusked centurion's heels, immediately reverting to his ridiculous blue form, and before they knew it they were back to where the otherplanar aperture gaped fully open amid the burning rubble of the the once great hall.

And the first one was out. The size of the alien form had been enough that Al had assumed it was a singular entity. But even as the great lizard that called itself Celedyr struggled to drive it back where it had come from, a second gigantic abomination was squeezing itself through. The skies were filled with shadows making for the dragon, barely held in check by the Loremaster's phalanx of huge elementals.

Al had figured that with all that was going on he and Isaint would scarcely be noticed, but even with the shadows throwing themselves at the dragon and his escort, one massive hippie demon - Al felt sure it was the ringleader from the gardens - immediately took note of Isaint and led a squadron after him.

As Isaint got to work, Al ran alongside him, firing volley after volley from his shiny ray gun - the lesser demons died easily, but the Master dodged every shot and bore down on the case and its carrier....

The flow of people through the portal has slowed considerably as almost everyone has passed through.  Several people come up to where Robyn is standing and try to get her to come away to have someone look at her injuries, some to get her to eat something, another to tell her that she is wanted in the Earl's house.  She just shakes her head to all of them.  "I told him I would wait here and here I will wait.  He will be back to take me on a date."

[Saturday July 11th?, 2076; Ruins of Lyonesse, Metaplane]

The She mentioned by the nightmare is a mind wrenching vision and you are just as glad that the atmospheric disturbance caused by the ripple in the astral and the titanic efforts of Celedyr to keep her at bay mean that you can only really catch glimpses…you have a nagging feeling that where you to be exposed to her full form your minds might snap!  Countless horror trids and graphic media reports might have inured you to some of the worst sights the Sixth world has to offer, but this doesn’t belong anywhere near the rational world!

Here the hardshell case appears to be some sort of reliquary with glass sides…inside a boiling miasma churns and bubbles, almost as evil feeling as the entity you intend to deploy it against…

Al had killed his first demon at the age of fourteen. It had been a nasty, no-account son of a bitch with acid for blood and hate for a heart. Maybe it was subjective, the way everything seems to have shrunk when you return to a place not visited since childhood, but Al had killed a hell of a lot of unnameable things since, and never topped the horror of that first.

But this - this was a whole new league. This was Horror, pure and unadulterated. This was the yin to God's yang, proof that for every good in this universe there must be an opposite, a dark mirror. This was not wrong in human terms, no mere manifestation of primoridal simian night terrors. This was evil universal, the antithesis of light, entropy embodied in darkness, and fueled with malice.

The soul recoiled.

The heart, as it were, faltered.

But maybe his soul was already as shriveled as it could get, or his heart long given-up on this or any other fallen world. However it was, Al kept running,a bellicose blue blaze, sending his Flash Gordon laser beams into whatever shadowy forms dared threaten Isaint's advance. He wondered at his resolve, and tried to credit the voodoo gods. Or Dog. In his heart, though, he knew it was the wetness of an angel-harlot's kiss still fresh on his cracked lips.

"Keep your distance, I'll open the reliquary in five, four, three..."
Isaint had to stop his countdown as the Nightmare swooped towards him. His horrific appearance was almost a welcome distraction from the sanity eroding sight of the eldritch horror just to his left.
The reliquary was safely hidden behind Isaint's shield for the moment, allowing him one hand free for his gun.

"Al, don't look at it. Shut your eyes, Al. Don't look at it, no matter what happens!"
With that Isaint commanded his shield's flash pack feature to activate. Where in the normal world it would have been a stroboscope like in a particularly nasty disco, the metaphor changed it into a searing, all blinding light that didn't allow shadows to form.

Isaint didn't bother to draw his weapon. He needed all his concentration now for running and keeping the shield pointed towards the Nightmare.
Releasing the Miasma was easier here than expected: As the glas reliquary fell away, the Miasma was contained in some kind of translucent bladder - not unlike a jelly fish in water. His cestus poked a hole into it and suddenly he trailed a coil of dark green smoke that roiled and drifted towards the center of the summoning circle. Isaint had the distinct impression that it wasn't merely expanding but also gaining mass. If he had to guess, the magic rich environment coupled with the flexible time aspect allowed the FAB to multiply a lot faster than there cell bound brethren in the mundane world.

He had finished half the circle before the Nightmare finally caught up with him - and came in contact with the miasma to which he had been blinded before. At least Isaint assumed that it was because of the contact that the Nightmare began to scream incoherently inside his head.
"Go and find some Chickensoup you bastard." Isaint managed to say before the Nightmare rammed into him and made him fly ten meters through the air.
The landing took his breath away, but he kept the shield above him and his armor prevented any further damage.

By now the Miasma had expanded enough to partially block the light and thankfully the sight of the eldritch creature.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, FATEBREAKER?" Isaint wasn't sure if it was the Nightmare or Celedyr who screamed in his head.
"I released a bane, a mortal instrument, a weapon of mass destruction, developed to hold in check the power of an ancient artifact. It consumes your very essence and grows stronger by it. In the mundane world it's merely dangerous - but you released power here, power you thought you alone could use for your ends. And you were wrong.

In short: My eldritch abomination will eat your eldritch abomination.
"It was inevitable. By the toll of a billion deaths man has bought his birthright of the earth, and it is his against all comers; it would still be his were the Martians ten times as mighty as they are. For neither do men live nor die in vain.""
