Hi Adamu,
Is there a slot left for my decker? I'm looking for my first Shadowrun game.
The Character Sheet is here:
http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=487.msg434285#msg434285I just finished the stats tonight but I can put together a story for him by tomorrow.
The general concept would be as below. I can taylor or add elements you think would tie in well with the game setting (particularly geography).
[ childhood story here]
Jean-Erik de Quere, son of renegade salaryman, grew up on the fringes of Tir Tairngire.
His father was a Renraku tech who had himself extracted - along with his 'retirement fund' - to a small forest compound with his wife and newborn boy.
They lived a fairly peaceful life disturbed only by the occasional serious visits from heavily guarded corp execs visiting his father.
Occasionally his father would go off with the execs and return a few weeks later with toys. House upgrades and more powerful items for the antenna farm would also happen then.
They got on well with some of the local Elves (on one side) and the Salish-Shidhe on the other. His father seemed to be a mediator respected by both.
Visitors came with their broken machines. His dad would fix them up and in return would take whatever produce or crafts they could offer.
A few years into life there, his younger sister - florienne - came along.
Over the years Jean-Erik's father taught the boy about machines and physics. Partly practical, partly educational, the lessons helped the boy as much to maintain the compound's power supply and security as it did inspire his inventor's mind. In time, he learnt electronics and software. His father imparted to him his knowledge of the corporate world's information infrastructure and protocols. He also showed him the restricted protocols the corps developed in their endless attempts to secure communication not even GOD would hear.
When he was 16 his father took him to Seattle for his birthday. His mum and sister were away so it was just him and his dad. Over the course of the night and that week he learnt things about his dad and his life that he could never have guessed. He saw his dad use a SIN for the first time - under a name he didn't recognise. They met with his dad's acquaintances - who all referred to him by another name. They got drunk, went to night-clubs with out of this world AR (nothing like what he'd experienced in their tame, locked down forest compound host). They went paracritter hunting with his dad's acquaintances using forbidden weapons and ordinance.
When they got back his father made him promise not to mention any of this to his mother or sister. He found out, soon enough why secrecy was so important. His father kept a special workshop in a hidden basement under their garage. Inside were kept all kinds of weapons, decks, armour, tag-presses and diagnostic equipment. Their family's main source of income wasn't, as he'd naively thought, from his father's pension and odd-jobs for the locals. He was involved in shadowrunning. When he left Renraku, he didn't leave his friends behind. A few, high-powered individuals still kept contact through discrete channels. The tribal meetings and council gatherings they attended were also places where his father acted as middleman between the corporation and the nations.
[middle story here]
I don't know how important this is but I have a few ideas involving family diseases, abduction, BTL addiction, death, exile, desolation. For a positive story, I could leave his father and family in place to serve as a safe-house for him and his team.
[current story here]
Jean-Erik lives in Seattle. For official purposes, he is Tom Hunter - a tech born in Seattle with no family. He makes a fairly good living servicing the machines and networks in the retail sector. His lifestyle doesn't quite match his line of work but he has a lot of fake contractors and jobs on his books. He's part of the neighbourhood watch and helps keep the streets safe from paracritters. That - of course - is why he needs his AK-97 and Ares Predator. One of the paracritter squad is a cop, fairly well connected and bent as an 11-Nuyen coin. They have a mutual 'professional' respect for each other and a healthy personal distrust. Jean-Erik knows his cop's first priority in life is to serve and protect his own interests. The cop knows Jean-Erik isn't the exactly what he seems to be, but then ... where's the harm in dipping your beak every now and then (everyone 's at it).
