So you're the gm of a party without a face, hacker, or B&E specialist who was tasked with staging a terrorist attack in a Political figure's neighborhood. The party however consists of a rigger, and assas-sam (that takes the job). The assas-sam manages to sneak past neighborhood watch and gets to the house next door to the politician and decides that attacking the neighbors might be the best option as "it would likely be viewed as an attempt against the [politician] with a mix-up of addresses" (the politician isnt supposed to be killed). It was about 6:30 pm in seattle in the late fall, so the sun was almost down and everyone was having dinner. The sam decided that trying to kick down the door would alert neighborhood watch and that the windows would likely be set to go off if they were broken; he decides to simply knock on the front door. The sam is (to me in the moment, fairly) assuming that the people inside would just open the door not knowing who was at the door. He proceeded to punch the man who opened the door in the face, gunned down the wife (with red collored gel rounds he made to look like explodes as if someone got shot with a real bullets) so she looked dead as she went for a panic button, and tied the man and his two kids (about 10 and 13) on the second floor next to a fake bomb. He then went downstairs and discretely drugged the wife into a coma for ~two days and told the rigger to send an anonymous tip to KE reading "If you want [politician] alive for the upcoming election you'll leave 2.5 M nuyen at [fake address]." Finally the sam broke the front door down to make it look like there was forced entry and climbed onto the roof of a building opposite and a few houses down, set up in a crevice made but perpendicular angled roofs with a chameleon set and waited out the night managing to not be spotted by HTR forces (with 11 stealth successes, lucky roll).

The event i have the most question about is getting through the front door by knocking, there were several reasons, in hindsight, as to why someone may not be able to do this (biggest being that people in the neighborhood might know not the bother neighbors at certain times like dinner time) but is this something you think was ok in this situation and/or what are some other situations that this tactic might work and how would you assess if it should?

Depending on the neighbourhood they might have a video system installed where they can see the person and then ask what he's doing there, before opening the door (a similar system like you see in many appartments so you can see who's at the door below without having to go down yourself).  That would have meant a con roll for the street sam to give a convincing excuse (dressing up as a UPS delivery man might work, but he would have had to think about that up front).

Might be good to mention he cloaked as soon as he rang the bell, and was attempting to lure them out as ding dong ditchers.

Even better.  They see on their video system that nobody is there and they don't come out.  And if he does it too often, they call security to chase those annoying kids away.

I'd like to add that even if you want to change how this sort of thing works later, you can easily handwave this particular instance by saying these particularly residences are simply not hyper vigilant people.  Remember that security can also make people complacent.  It's perfectly reasonable to assume that many people who live in a good neighborhood assume that police, the people at the front desks, etc. will do a good job of keeping undesirables out and figure that anyone who is knocking on their door has a valid reason to be there, not checking their front door video feed even if they have one.  Usually when my players do something like this, I have them roll Edge x2 and if they score a hit or two the person in question tends to have habits like this that work in the party's favor.
