Continuum Style Adept for comments

In my bid to 'shake up' my archive here's another character with a secondary focus in agility...she's inspired by the TV series in the title which may help to explain a couple of the oddities like a powered breakdown revolver  ::)

So, would she be workable as a runner/bounty hunter?  The gun turret sniper rifle is an attempt to make her semi self reliant but lack of B&E skills may be a problem...

I think you would benefit from defining your focus a bit more.  You've got a character that is essentially a combat focused character that is kinda *meh* at combat.

Recommendations.  Move the Influence skill group to either Outdoors or Athletics and use the individual skill points to max out either Etiquette or Intimidate for the legwork phase. 

Longarms 3 move to the Unarmed, you need Gunnery to fire the Sniper Rifle in a Drone anyway.

I'd also drop the Drive skill if you bought it with skill points.  Spend the 2 Karma and pick up a single point and carry on.

Jack of all Trades?  Only 2 Karma....And Agile Defender you'll have a tough time using with only 2 action passes typically.

Shuffle at least a point of Logic to either Reaction or Cha.

A mild background count pretty well neutralizes most of your Adept powers, personally I pick one or two things to buff with Adept power and stack dice like crazy so BGC is less annoying.  Highly variable by table though in how common BGC is, so YMMV.

Foci?  Resources C and no Foci?  They're cheap!  Get some!   : )

Bounty Hunters are tough to make in 5th.  They "need" a lot of different stats and skills to cover Combat, B&E, and Legwork.  You wind up making compromises somewhere, I think a Bounty Hunter Duo concept works well though to cover all the bases.

Looks interesting, but I do think that making someone like Kiera would be more fitting as a bioware street sam than as an Adept.

Magic is 5, 5 PP spent.   Magic 6 (5)  ; Essence 6 (5.3)  it's just the way it's displayed.  Using ( ) for augmented stats like magic and essence means they're lower because of 'ware.  I'm guessing it's just the output of whatever was used to create the character.

Not real sure what the point of the implanted commlink is, except to eat Essence better spent on more Muscle Toner.

A dice pool of 5 in Negotiation is pretty much always going to fail, and Astral Perception is better as a qi focus than bought with PP. Dice pools of 9 in combat abilities, for a combat character, are also not very good, and you didn't take maximum advantage of the one thing that really sets adepts apart: Improved Ability.

Get some good goggles/contacts with visual mods and lose Danger Sense and Enhanced Perception. Max out your Improved Ability for Pistols/Longarms.
Playability > verisimilitude.

With the premise of the character, I would imagine the implanted comm would be to represent the CMR the character in the show had.

I'd envisaged more of an investagitive character, perception and tracking, than combat but I take the points about spreading too thin! Will have a play with the suggestions and see how I can improve her!

Powers that you want always-on should be bought with PP, like improved reflexes. Not put in a focus. Situational powers like Astral Perception are better placed in a focus.

Maybe its just me but I'm thinking 4 more Attributes & a PP would balance out paying for the Cyber & expensive gear.

I know the goal was to mimic Kiera, but for over all power, I think B-Attr & D-Cash would serve you better.

I'd also drop Tracking by 3 points for Specializations in Urban, Urban, & Semi-Autos to boost sneaking, shooting, & keep you "city cop" focused.

I was going to say don't bother with the Unarmed Combat with a STR of 2, but then see she has Shock Gloves listed with her armour.

I also do not see any knowledge skills.

Not clear where all the sensory mods listed with the Sleeping Tiger armour are for, are they on the camera? 

For that Sleeping Tiger suit I'd seriously consider the Fire Resistance and Nonconductive mods (5 ea). Last thing you want is a fire elemental or some pyro mage toasting your pretty 13,000¥ armoured suit. They also give both you and the armour extra dice up to their rating against that specific type of attack.

If you are going with a revolver, may as well get the best (Ruger Warhawk 9P -2 AP)  Not that expensive to internally smartlink and while one less round than the Colt, it has better punching power. 

Unless you have a really high DP, single shot weapons are not as effective since they do not subtract from the target's dodge like burst and autofire do. If you can swap a point, I would specialise in your primary gun as that would add two more to the Pool.  My adept KK (below) has a total pool of 18 with both her Warhawks.and Remington 950 (she's "aced" targets who were wearing FBA with one shot from the 950 with APDS)..If she pumps her agility to 10 (provided she's not in a BGC greater than 2), she has a DP of 20 with each. With that she often can get enough hits to outdo most dodge tests and still stage the DV up.

To give your Colt (or if you switch to the Ruger) a little more punch, I'd look into Handload ammo (Hard Targets).  This is a modifier that costs 1.25 the normal prise and either grants an extra +1 to the DV or --1 to the AP. (must be chosen when purchased)

I would consider Agile Defender (3 Karma) as a positive quality instead of Solid Rep, for if the character must go Full Defence, it gives her an additional 3 dice (and with that combat sense, a total DP of 22).

As the character has about 3,000 left I'd get her a ballistic mask and put some of the visual mods on it. The mask would also give the character an extra +2 armour value.

A rating 1 Fake ID is almost useless.should you have to go through a scanner. 3 is the bare minimum I'd consider.

I also agree with WhiskeyJack about the Qi foci.  I considered them myself but found it much better as well to just go for powers bought off PPs. Another thing to remember is a BGC will affect the power of any active foci.  If it equals or exceeds the rating, the foci is shut down and takes BGC x Hours to recover.. Furthermore, pending resources on unbonded foci is a waste.  For the cost of the two force 4 Qi foci the character could probably have enough to get another level of Muscle Toner. If all three were bonded and activated at the same time, this character would be be facing focus addiction as the total force of all three foci (10) is twice that of the character's Magic Attribute (5).

Keep in mind, for about every two jobs at the start, the character will probably get enough Karma to initiate for the first two grades. It does get harder later but there are other options like joining a magic group and/or using ordeals to trim the costs.   You also don't have to spend all your starting karma at Chargen and can hold back up to 5 points to start with.


I built my Gunslinger Adept Kyoto Kid off the standard priorities (A: Attributes, B: Skills, C: Magic, D: Resources: E Metatype) and she came out of the box pretty tough even starting with only 4 Magic. I actually bought her magic up to 5 at chargen with of her of her two Special Attribute points then burned it out with a bit of bioware and genemods (Alpha Smartlink w/Vison Mag, Rating 2 Orthoskin and Tetrachromatic Vision).  Most of the rest of her resources (50,000¥ +10,000¥ from Karma) went to armour and weapons as well as a good Fake ID with licences (all rating 4).  AS Chicago has a pervasive Background count of 2 the augmentations made up for adept powers that would have been pretty much useless a good part of the time so in this case, the 1 point of magic was a good tradeoff.

She only started Missions play with Improved Reflexes 2, Combat Sense 3 and didn't even have a Weapon focus in the beginning as she needed a minimum of Force 3 for it to be even marginally useful.  In the meantime she was no slouch with either normal blades or her six shooters (Ruger Warhawks)  and rifle (Remington 950 which made her a good backup sniper when using APDS). She just had to be patient and let the mages or whoever had a Barrett 122 deal with spirits for the time being.

After banking up some job rewards/Karma and cashing in a few favours with both a Face she frequently worked with and one particular NPC, she ended up with a Force 5 Weapon Focus, upgraded her Orthoskin to Beta, got Beta Muscle Toner 2. (giving her a base agility of 8 ) and is now a grade 4 initiate.  Yes at the outset she was somewhat limited but she still had two things she could do very well and a couple rather adequately rather than being so spread out.
