HELP! First Timer & I am stuck playing 2 characters

Now that my dramatic subject line has gotten your attention. Like I said this is my first time playing Shadowrun and either my DM hates me or trusts me enough to want me to play to characters to make up for the fact our group is too small at the moment. So the gist is I need to make a social character w/ B&E skills, and a Decker/getaway driver. Which brings me to the 2 proposed runners below.

Not sure off-hand, but I think Romeo's goggles need image link to use the smartlink in the Crusader.
Would suggest removing some of the ware in Rabbit and buying a better deck.

Romeo should lose the DataJack for a set of 'Trodes.  I'd bump Agility to 6 and Int to 5 and lower Willpower and Logic.  Powers are kind of all over the place, fine if you've got no Background count, you'd benefit from focusing a bit more.  Really want to scare up 10 Karma for that 2nd point of Edge.

Rabbit,  I'd trade in Muscle Aug and Muscle Toner for Muscle Replacement.  You've got the Essence to burn.  Overall your hacking dice pools are pretty low IMO.  10 dice isn't getting you far.  Check out the Archetype thread in my sig for Deckers, they're all dwarves to match the artwork, but you can change it to Human easy enough if you want to.

The Archetype thread also has several Elf face builds to check out.  Not sure if any were adepts, but they're also worth checking out for ideas.

Playability > verisimilitude.

Yeah I am not overly thrilled about it. I have played multiple characters before in DnD and Pathfinder, but those are now where near as complex as Shadorun appears. I have been assured though it is only temporary. I would rather bite the bullet and endure the headache for a little while than wait to start playing.

My strong advice is ditch the decker/ rigger.
Let the gm fill the decker role via handwavium and npcs.
IMHO this approach is not viable for a beginner and would be very difficult for a seasoned player.

My strong advice is ditch the decker/ rigger.
Let the gm fill the decker role via handwavium and npcs.
IMHO this approach is not viable for a beginner and would be very difficult for a seasoned player.


And this is possibly the worst combo too.

While there is overlap in some skills, their tech requirements are so different and EXPENSIVE that the only thing you will succeed at in both roles is failure.


A proper rigger needs a rigg and host of drones, vehicles to be rightly effective. Without the rigg, he's NOT  a rigger. (And NO, using a drone through a commlink, while doable- is NOT the same as a rigger!)

A Decker on the other hand is all about his deck and programs. A piss poor deck is not going to get a hacker very far, regardless of skill power. Nor can you make an effective deck from a commlink, regardless of what some people think.

In short, this combo is too resouce intensive to be effective out of the gates, and is more something a character 'grows' into during play. (Starting off as either a decker OR rigger, and expanding into the other role as cash and karma allow)
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

My simple suggestion is: don't. From someone who has done this multiple times in the past, don't. It's more of a chore than it is fun. And it's a huge system burden to put on a new player, to boot.

Yeah I am not overly thrilled about it. I have played multiple characters before in DnD and Pathfinder, but those are now where near as complex as Shadorun appears. I have been assured though it is only temporary. I would rather bite the bullet and endure the headache for a little while than wait to start playing.
OK, so. If you don't want to, tell your GM that. It's easy enough to have an NPC handle "decking" (i.e. narratively, with the team having to wait or grab some physical item that decking facilitates you getting, or playing escort, or whatever) until someone wants to play it

It's a game, you should be having fun, not pulling extra "work" because someone has a skewed idea of what roles are "needed" in a party.
Playability > verisimilitude.

B&E is something the Samurai should be able to pick up easy enough.

Social is something a CHA caster or a melee type can pick up.

Decking while important is probably the single most easily NPC'd archtype.

Rigging isn't required and ANY character with some starting tech should be able to get a good vehicle.

I agree with the above, focus on 1-2 rolls at the most.
