Being new to Shadowrun, I'm mildly confused,  merely from a practical perspective, on what some of the fictional materials are. Could someone go to the trouble of defining them better (as well as any others I should know about?)

Mono-anything - I get the general impression that's it's really sharp and deadly.
Ruthenium polymer - Think it's used in chameleon suits? Provides the stealth capabilities?
Myomar - get the idea that the fibers respond to the user in some way?

Mono: Short for Mono-Molecular, usually through the use of carbon bucky tubes with very high tensile strength, allowing a very thin and therefore sharp edge

Ruthenium Polymer: Treated material that allows it to change color and lighting, combined with a sensor array it's able to mimic the surrounding environment, creating a very effective camouflage

Myomer: High tech polymers that contract when subjected to electrical currents - artificial muscles in essence - can be used to create very precise and strong movements of equipment, including artificial arms, self tying ropes and much, much more.

"Mono" refers to single molecules. A monowire for example is a wire so thin it consists of a string of single molecules. So yes, it's really sharp... and invisible to the naked eye too. Same goes for the edge of y monoblade and so on...

"Ruthenium polymere" in shadowrun is a material able to change it's color based on electrical stimulation. So basically you combine a ruthenium polymere coating with sensors and and a highly sophisticated processor to get adaptable camouflage (a camera captures the image behind you and the coating shows that image on the front side)

"Myomere": from greek "myo" = muscle. So yes it responds to a user (or more precisely to electrical stimulation) by contracting, bending etc. (see "Reactive Myomer Pack" (Hard Targets) for example. Give a wireless command and the (artificial muscle-) fibers in the pack contract and shift in a way to bring a desired object to the opening of the pack.)

Edit: I should really learn to type faster *sigh*

Mono : A process that lets you essentially attach a mono whip to the blade of your sword making the blade the size of a single molecule yet some how still has a lower damage code and ap value, same for the mono-chainsaw. also theres a microwire that does the same damage better ap value but can be countered by wearing rappeling gloves, why the corps haven't jumped on this a made it incorperated into lining of armors thus countering against monowhips is beyond reason.

no, it doesn't make you sword a mono-molecule thick sword.
It just adds a single molecule thick edge to your blade.
this helps cut through things but because the blade is still, well, a blade and has the same blade thickness it used to have it doesn't cut through things as easily as a pure mono-whip which IS just one molecule thick.

In reality adding a mono-edge to a blade would do squat as finely crafted blades like katanas already approach this type of edge due how the metal crystallizes.

microwire is NOT the same as a mono-whip.
hence why rappelling gloves work on them.

Just don't kiss anything with mono.

Because of possible legal issues due to there being a mono-sword in an other game?
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

Well, there's the Ares Monoblade, which is a sword that's been around since late 1st edition.

About nobody ever used it, tho.

(The laser axe is so much cooler!)

what I am saying is why isnt there a sword where all you have is mono wire or micro wire along its edge the monosword damage and ap value is crap compared to the monowhip or microwire so why not?

Oh, i understood what you were saying Rooks.

But, THAT is the exact monosword from cyberpunk 2020...

In CP2020, the monosword is just a single straight monofliment.... with a glowy red ball on the end so you can actually track were you're weapon is... (cause, you know, mono-molecular is REALLY hard to see with the nakkid eye :P )

In fact, they go on for lengths about how 2 monosword combatants look like a dance of glowy balls.... until nody parts fly.

So having the EXACT same weapon in SR, or even close to it, could open the door to a nice costly IP battle.

Best to just not go there from a company legal perspective.

It's a very special pistol that is only used to kill Flying Purple People Eaters.

No idea, it's mentioned only once in the entire CRB. And that under the exotic weapon skill....

Best guess is just a made up weapon to use as an example, or a misspelling ; they meant dart-pistol?
