How about this, I promise not to punish you badly for glitches, but you still can't use edge.

How about this, you don't arbitrarily lock out vital game mechanics while still leaving in the failure mechanics? I simply don't understand the big issue you have with Edge in-between runs. We start downtime with full Edge and it doesn't regen until the start of the next run. It's rather simple.

If I were inclined to do anything for downtime, it would be to allow you access to the Edge you had remaining from the previous adventure.  The reason I prefer not to is, as I have stated before, I don't like the idea of people using Edge for background stuff (Fencing gear, training), that seems a step too far.

That quasi-not-really concession means absolutely nothing. You're running published adventures, and there's usually a few unavoidable big fights towards the end of those. No one's going to have Edge left over unless they got knocked out of a fight early on. Hell, I got knocked out of that last fight early on, and still didn't have any left over.

There's also a huge difference between limiting how Edge is used and locking it out completely. Locking out Edge while leaving Glitches in place, even if watered down, is basically giving yourself license to punch us in the nose while our hands are tied behind our backs.

I think I need to weigh in with Crossbow on this question.  He is not going to whack us hard while we are on the downtime.  If we roll and glitch, it will add to the story line in some way.  I do not feel that we are penalized in this.

I agree. Since there aren't generally too many rolls during downtime, being able to use a full compliment of edge would be a bit much (imagine Sam using a rule-of-six edge roll on a gear acquisition/price negotiation...:o). This downtime seems a bit more extended than others I've experienced, but that's kind of beside the point.

Our GM has said "no edge during downtime", and I trust him not to abuse us when the dice don't come up in our favor, because he understands that we don't have the safety net that we do during runs. He's been a great GM for the last..what, 3 and a half years?...he's earned my trust.

Maybe we can do a compromise.  We don't use edge to boost our rolls, but we can use it to downgrade glitches and crit glitches.  that way the few rolls we make cannot be augmented, but we can avoid bad luck.

For me it's not really an issue I think, as I only have 2 edge, but I can understand that for others there's a bigger difference.

It's not a matter of trust, the rules Crossbow has put in place are inherently unfair. No one else seems to care, so I'll let the matter drop. My objections still remain however.

I always thought downtime was the domain of character-building, inconsequential role-playing and possible transition sub-plots, which is why I never bothered with the edge scheme. I honestly don't mind whichever way the group decides and will respect the decision. I understand Necro's concerns however, and would be inclined to stand on his side of the argument purely on the basis of having a weapon against glitches/critical glitches. But at the same time I echo Crossbow's worries about edge making skill and gear acquisition both a breeze and a trifle matter.

So I'll let you guys battle it out and you can consider my non-committing opinion given on this matter ;)

that's why I proposed my compromise, as I hold the same opinion as you do.

Can I please get a read on what day it is?  I need to have some information about when and where I am to meet the client.

Honestly, I haven't got a clue.  :)  I have been playing pretty fast and loose with time so far in general, and I never really placed a firm date stamp on when things started.

Between that and all the time hopping that happened in this downtime space, I have no earthly idea.

It was probably spring when the rest of the team woke up in the mountain pasture, and I am figuring vaguely that with all the training taking place this time that I will put the beginning of the next adventure somewhere in the third month.  As for a day of the week kinda thing, you had your meet on a Friday night and Sammy didn't see her brother till the following Monday, so I guess it is a Tuesday sometime in June?  Sure, that will work.

Cool.  It is Tuesday and my date for the weekend begins on Friday night, perhaps?  Is this a planned event for you or something for me to make up and go with?  I am fine with either.

Just getting you caught up on your responsibilities as a Made (wo)Man.  I will probably be looking to start the next main story once I get Necro's stuff dealt with.

OK.  So, unless I mistake you, the weekend thing is just fluff and not something you are going to develop.  I am fine with that.  I can throw a bit of fluff out to cover the experience.  Are you going to do anything about the Cassie thing or is that fluff as well?
