Ooc: I'm confused, I have four prisoners on the roof, but he's walking up to them and scolding them on the ground?

OOC:  You do not have the only prisoners.  The locals have some as well.

Ensuring that these prisoners are secure and marking them for pickup by my allies I call my air spirit to catch me and step lightly off the roof as its holds me, carrying me to the ground. My illusion moves up on the civilians and the other man so that I may speak through it and remain invisible to listen.

OOC:  Is an illusion seen but ignored as such by those that make the resistance or is it just not seen at all?

As you float to the ground you are still invisible.  You notice that a number of the locals gathered about their prisoners seem afraid of the approaching illusion, but others, including the man you are seeking, apparently are able to resist the spell and are urging calm.  In fact the man motions to the adjacent buildings.  "All right, all right.  Stay calm.  This is not real.  It is some mage's effect, but it was used to help us, so do not be afraid of it.  The mage must still be around, perhaps in one of these buildings.  Be cautious, but trust me on this."

He looks around at the windows of the building nearby and calls out.  "Fear not.  Your magic has helped us and we are grateful.  Your illusion is causing fear among my companions, so can you please cancel its effects and come talk to us in person."

I respond through the illusion, having it speak for me as I circle behind the man. "Fear was the intention, though not spacifically theirs, and I will be speaking through the illusion until I decide you get to see my face or hear my voice. Anonymity is valuable to a professional, and I don't give it up for nothing. And speak up, I can barely make you out from up here."

I keep my distance, watching my step around the fissure and giving any of the people here a wide berth. I also sweep them in astral for awakened.

There is nothing that says it one way or the other in the books. When you resist, it's all or nothing (you believe or you don't), but do you still see the illusion? Hard to tell.
However, if you decide that if you resist you're not even aware of the illusion, that means that Eva can't speak through the illusion to those who resisted.

Some of the people seem very afraid of the monster that you have created, but the man calms them down again.  "You gain little from frightening these people unless your motive is truly not to help them.  Show yourself."

I weigh my options for a beat. I talk through the illusion, he dislikes me and his people are scared. Dismiss the illusion and speak plainly I have nothing but his potential gratitude and maybe luck to protect me. Fortunately, he's working to calm the people, implying high empathy and probably a soft spot or two I can exploit if it comes to that.

My mind made up, I drop the illusion and my invisibility and step through the crowd, my scarf in place. "Very well, here I am. Now, what is your name, sir."

The people that are facing you are about as different as any microcosm of civilization can be.  You see old and young, people in suits and others in rags, some look like that eat well while others don't.  The mix of weapons is just as varied, but all swing up to cover you as you appear.  The man calls out for calm and tells them to lower their weapons.  One elderly man resists, crying out a language heavily accented by some Slavic tongue, "She is mage.  How trust, Comrade Champagne"

The man walks to him and places his hand on the barrel of the man's ancient rifle.  "Because she helped us.  Her illusion decoyed several of the early attackers, before we were prepared.  Bolts of something were coming from the roofs of the buildings to hurt the men from the armored cars and she blew up one car with her magic.  She helped us."  He walks over to you and holds out a hand. "Thank you, Miss.  My name is Bryant Champagne and I welcome you here.  You helped turn a pretty dicey situation into a victory.  I am sure that Vlad will want to say thank you as well.  He was in the second sector but will be here soon."

I carefully control my concern as I reach out and shake the mans hand, grateful my gloves will prevent any DNA or magical connection through which he might assail me magically. I can only hope he doesn't have a poison needle or some such in his finger.

"It is nice to meet you sir, but I'm afraid i cannot stay, my presence here will be noticed too soon and if I am to maintain anonymity I cannot allow that. My interest is in taking these mercenaries and seeing they are duly punished for their abuse of power. Do you have compelling need of one?"

I'm eager to get out of this with my prizes, four isn't bad but eight would be better, and another ally might have other benefits, though my network is growing faster then I can control it, so perhaps caution is equally wise.

The man looks over at the prisoners and then back to you.  "As a matter of fact, yes.  We need all of these men for questioning.  These men have attacked a Vory neighborhood and killed Vory soldiers and the people they protect here.  Vlad will want to have a nice long chat with them about that and about why they came here in the first place.  I imagine that he would welcome your presence if you wish to stay."

"Is this Vlad the man in charge?"

First rule of negotiation, deal with the person in charge.

This Bryant guy seems polite, possibly even reasonable, and he's trying to claim all the prizes for himself. Very nice.

Champagne nods.  "Yes.  He is the Vory Bratva boss of this neighborhood.  Would you like to wait here for him or would you like me to take you to meet him?"
