"Charlie, listen.  If you had thought of it sooner, it might be us in chairs right next to them.  There is no telling why the KE jackboots were not already there.  I agree, it should have been a no-brainer.  Maybe he refused the protection?  I doubt that they will let us in on any secrets, though.  And I don't know what saving her life has to do with it.  They think we are guilty and now we are here with no fragging way out."

Steve walks about the room, peering closely at the various decorations, quite obviously trying to spot any hidden microphones or cameras.

Of course they think we did it.  We were set up someone was watching the place and the first two patsies who came along and they call in an anonymous tip.  They are going to check our stories, see that we've been telling the truth have us talk to some detectives and cut us loose, if they do hold us longer as soon as that young lady we rescued wakes up she can verify it wasn't us.

Just try to relax I know you get claustrophobic,  I don't much care for being cooped up either, try not to think about it, look out the window or something...who knows how busy they are we could be here for a while.

Steve shudders when you mention the claustrophobia and tries hard not to look too scared.  She paces the room for a while then settles down to curl up on one of the chairs, rocking gently back and forth as she hums a soft tune.  After an hour, you are brought some food and Steve asks for a potty break and an escort is provided to her.  You are asked if you need to use a bathroom as well.  Two hours later some officers appear at the door, lead by the man from the house.  He walks in alone and hands you your pistol and the keys to your bikes.  I think we can dispense with holding you any longer.  Your SINs and stories seem to check out, and the young woman, who will survive, by the way, has told us that you are not the people who attacked her and the doctor.  It seems that she is...was...one of several nursing students he was supervising and was over at his house for some extra training.  She did not have to say what the training was, but I am sure it had to do with the bed and a total lack of clothing."  The man pauses.  "Now, from your stories, I understand that you were already looking into what happened at Washington Rec and then Mercy General.  Is that correct?  Do you have any sort of information that would assist in our investigation?  So far this is almost like living in a really complex trivid movie and I cannot make any real sense of anything.  I would appreciate it if you can share anything?"

We were following the story of course., it's all over the vids.  We weren't investigating so much as wondering if the doctor felt secure and might like to hire us as private security,  I've heard stories from they were a group of go-gangers to serbian mercenaries from my  shadier friends.  From what I saw in the house I'd probably lean more towards the serbian mercenaries end of the spectrum.  If you have a card I'll be happy to take it, in case I hear anything else, 'specially if there is a reward for actionable info.

The man nods and hands you a card with the name Major Frank Washington and a personal com code on it.  "Here you go.  And there actually is a reward for actionable information.  Please contact me if you find anything.  I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I am sure you can understand why you were brought it.  Thank you for being adult about it.  I will walk you from the building.  By the way, your weapon is currently unloaded but I will give you the bullets at the exit."

Of course.  Are we free to go then?  My friend doesn't feel well and while I do understand the need to keep us here while you checked things out I can't really say I blame her.  I will give you a call if I hear of anything.

The KE major nods and escorts you from the building, returning your ammunition at the steps as promised.  Your bikes are parked at the curb and are being watched by an officer.  As you head towards them, Steve whispers, "Would it be alright to flip them off now?  May moon them?  Alright, alright, not now, but I will do it when they cannot see, trust me.  So, what now?"

Are you okay?  I couldn't tell if you were acting trying to find the watching devices or really freaking out.  Spokane rubs her back.  For now just follow me.

Spokane and Steve head back to the barrens but in Touristville Spokane pulls over and begins searching his equipment.  Check your stuff for bugs and see if there are any marks on our gear or anything.  We don't want them tracking us.

"Hey, Charlie, you know me; just a bit wary of the entire place.  Got a thing about being kept in a holding cell and "interrogated" by a bunch of sadistic KE guys.  I know that it is irrational, but you hear stories of that sort of thing going on and wonder."  >>Bingo.  Got a mark on my bike.  If you give me one to yours, I can check it out, too.  My guess is that it does.  I will have to reboot my ride, and you might want to do the same just to be sure.<<  Steve opens a side pouch on her bike and pulls out a bug scanner, which she runs up and down both machines, pointing to two different locations on each.  >>Here and here.  Do we zap them or let them be?  I have a couple of zappers in the pouch here.<<

Yeah go ahead and zap em.  I can't think of any reason not to. Spokane reboots his system and gives a mark to Steve so she can double check him to make sure they are gone.  We clean?

Steve uses the bug zapper then does a second check with the scanner.  Looking up, she nods.  "Clear.  So, that was creepy and a bit scary.  What next?"

How much of that was an act and how much was real.  You had me worried... Spokane say squeezing her shoulder.

Also, pro-tip, don't say my name every time you speak it's a bit of a tell.  You need to blow off some steam before we relieve Phil and Al?  We are gonna be cooped up for a while again.

Steve nods and blushes a bit.  "Sorry.  I will try to do better next time.  What do you have in mind for blowing off steam?  If it has anything to do with a bed and some sweat, I am all for it."

No.  You did fine, and hopefully there won't be a next time.

Spokane laughs.  It doesn't always have to be about sex you know.  Don't get me wrong I'm happy to oblige you, but you seemed legitimately...distraught about being stuck in that room, even more so when I mentioned claustrophobia.  It was a hell of an act...if that's what it was, if not I don't want you feeling trapped at the house.

Steve pales a bit.  "I just don't much like small, enclosed places.  My apartment is very small, but it has a door I can use to leave it by and it has a window I can open.  Back there, we could not leave by the door and the fragging window was a vid screen.  I was about to go all wonkers.  I think I might have, if you had not been there to make the confined space bearable.  I like you for many reasons, but that is one of them.  So, if not bed, what did you have in mind?"
