I've GM'd a lot of D&D, but never Shadowrun. I have played it quite a few times and understand it pretty well. The thing I need help with is the scope of what I have planned and if it fits the bill.

My plan is a heist to get some sort of tech a mom and pop shop is about to launch and was somehow able to keep quiet until this point. A corp wants it and the team has very limited time (like 6-10 hours) to get the prototype and plans (destroying duplicates if they can) before the prototype and info is moved/destroyed/out of reach. I just want to make sure my ideas fit in the world and aren't stupid. So, is there any reason the plans for this thing wouldn't be in their Host or even Foundation? I can see keeping some backups on site in a Faraday Cage or something, but their main plans would be in a Host, right? Or would it make more sense to go completely off grid to work on a prototype to keep it secret? Basically, how would a small fish keep something like this out of the hands of the corp world in the first place? What level of security would be appropriate for this, considering the mom and pop know that their secret is out and are trying to button it up? Matrix and drones? Magic and critters? I'm leaning more tech than magic, but could go either way. I think having both will just be too much to handle.

I have a few weeks to hammer out the details, so any help will be extremely appreciated. I will be making a pregen team that will specialize in this sort of work for them to play. So even thoughts on what to do there is helpful.

Make it a Magic mcGuffin. Otherwise a small Business having some awesome new tech makes not much sense.

Or make it a huge improbable setup, orchestrated by a mega to either test security tech or test the runners.

Possibility 3: let the players make characters first and see what ideas follow from their roles, backgrounds and contacts.
