The more I think about this, is a Human striker basically doomed?

I could swap out for Jujitsu, and loose Penetrating and Critical Strike, I suppose, as well as his Knucks focus...just go with grappling and throwing, but...punching people is just so satisfying.  :-\  ;D

Constructive deconstruction and demolition welcome.

EDIT : It occurs to me that if I drop 10 Karma into Prototype Metahuman, then burn the bonus ESS on around $15.5K worth of bioware (striking calluses and bone density aug (combined with the Weapon Focus that's around $30K just boosting UA))...I can break even with an unmodified Remington 990.

*Sigh*

AFB but there is a Martial Art that gives you +1 DV for Charging, and another that gives a +1 DV for having a second weapon.  14 Karma for +2 DV ain't bad.  Drags you kicking and screaming up to 9 DV so Heavy pistol damage.  *shrug*

Shock Gloves start you out at 8 DV, with critical strike and whatnot that gets into Heavy Pistol damage range as well.

And there isn't any reason to not pick up an Automatics skill and keep an AR around for "going loud".

Certainly viable, and absolutely useful for silent takedowns.  But for general purpose firefights you're going to do more damage with Guns or monowhips or whatnot.

Thanks.

Yeah, this is another "high concept" build. We were laughing about the "Hobo with a Shotgun" quality, and it got me thinking about an old hilarious gaming session and one thing lead to another and I'm making a badass martial artist who happens to be a hobo. With a shotgun.

Problem is that the shotgun seems to trump the Unarmed Adept aspect pretty @#$%ing hard.

Two things.  #1  Duh.  #2  Silent Take Downs and Low Profile are a thing in Shadowrun.  Not even a niche thing.  Practically an every run thing at most tables.

Some things to consider is that you invest a lot of skill points on agility skills.
Agility boost is fine out of combat, but in combat it is a waste of time (unarmed is a complex action).

Damage:
16k + biocompatibility(bioware) - gives you bone density 3 + striking callus 2 (for a whooping +4 to unarmed damage) along with critical strike adept power and killing hands you'll have 11P (to be boosted to 12P if you go beast way adept and take keratin control.

Another option is to take adept spell to improve damage (e.g imprrove strength or element aura)

Yet, another power to consider is the elemental body adept power, it gives you a large bonus to hit as you only need to touch the opponent, and anyone touching you gets whooped.

Finally, it seem to be worth it to get less skill points but a muscle toner, you could easily start with Agility 10. (used muscle toner 3 and adept power) it would give you superhuman running speed to be able to cover large distances while running to punch someone. The expense of it is that you'll have less skill points but well the agility is higher to begin with.

Yeah, our GM has us doing this "Street +" level chargen.  :-\

But I've been messing around and it seems like I should try for Prototype Transhuman, drop the Weapon Focus Knucks for Bone Density and Striking Calluses, then scrounge for the moohlah for a Qi-focus (UA).

I'll look at the muscle toner -- skill points are scarce, but at this chargen level one-trick ponies are all you can hope for.
