I am just getting started with SR, and would have a lot of questions. So is there a section on this forum for newbies?

  Welcome to the shadows chummer.

It would be helpful for you to know what edition your playing as earlier editions have their own sub-forum for rules and the like and rules from later editions may not apply.

I would suggest reading the forum rules if you haven't already.
Fastjack also has an excellent post on forumspeak that I believe is stuck up with the forum rules.  (If somone is speaking the odd word you don't know odds are it's forumspeak).

Right, now the dull stuff is out of the way...  ;)

Seeing as you already have this post up are there any burning questions you have?  I'm mainly a third edition (3e) gm and the latest edition is fifth (5e) however I'll happily assist as best I can.

Because if I pass you I wont even leave a breeze.
If you search for me you won't find a trace.
What then do those seeking me say they found?
Nothing.
Zero is nothing.
I am Zero.
What better name for myself?
-Zero on being asked where he got his name...

I will be playing the 5th edition. I have ordered the core rule book along with the beginner box set. So i figured that would be a great place to start. There seems to be a fairly large group in my area that play. Thanks for your help

Those are good products to start with. As you get more comfortable with the game, and the various aspects of it, you can then expend your collection to cover the supplemental books. Those supplements include expanded rules for Magic, Combat, and the matrix, as well as providing more options for character creation, gear (Cyber, guns, magic, matrix).

Shadowrun is a very complex game (no point in hiding it), so take the time to read the book through a couple of times. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask on the forums or browse the forums for your answer (lots of stuff has been discussed!).

For the most part, we have a good group of players, and freelance writers to answer your questions!

Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???
