As for Puck's Essence Hole... If my conjecture about what was going on was true, let's figure it out.

Assuming Dr. Sharon is Pax, she may be looking for a way to re-gain her Otaku/Technomancer abilities after fading out post-Crash 2.0. She kidnaps her former lackey, Puck, whom she knows is a faded Otaku as well. Having the full backing of Mitsuhama to figure out how to "make" a technomancer (same reasons corps would like to "make" magicians), she authorizes an Universal Omnitech Elán Revitalization to bring his Essence back to full, to make sure he's not hindered in any way. Then she proceeds to "reawaken" his abilities (using knowledge gained from Deus), to map out how Technomancers work.

Most likely with his skull cracked open the whole time, to better observe what's going on.  *Slasher Smile*

This wasn't one of the "Fiction" sections detailing events in the world.  This was a write up by Icarus about Puck, which makes all of this section shadowtalk.  Thus, everything in the entry on Puck is opinion or second hand conjecture, not solid honest fact.
And thus another shadowtalker should call out the poster on this, as for proof, or start running in circles screaming. As you said, the major factor in the shitstorm about the new AIs was the suspicion that Deus might be behind it (but not the knowledge that he was still around). Now somebody apparently has solid proof that Deus is behind something, and nothing happens. Not even a "told you so" from Clockwork. And the "reveal" itself also is nothing but a passing remark.
Hey guys, I just figured out one of the biggest secrets in the 6th world, but that's kinda besides the point. Do you guys think Mercurial's tits are real?

Everybody knew Pax was probably still alive
So that's why Puck referred to her as somebody who should be dead and then went to search her, which started the whole "where in the world is Puck" storyline?

You only have to look at some of the discussions taking place between players on this forum for evidence that these two evils returning isn't news.  People have been theorizing that Pax is Dr. Shannon or Deus being the annoymous poster, or even the Horizon Consensus
People in the real world also know that Ares has a bug problem since Augmentation, that does not make it common character knowledge in the shadows

In short, Deus and Ex Pacis may be back, but everybody who can prove that or even present solid circumstantial evidence is going to make a big splash on Jackpoint

The otaku had datajacks, and while it is possible to repair essence loss now I'm not sure Puck would have bothered.  Still, it doesn't change anything about the stats of puck as a technomancer.  Nor, honestly, does the low AI knowledge skill.  (Though given how idiotic Puck has been about AIs in the past you could almost argue he's not exactly an expert on them.)
Puck was one of Deus' top Whites, responsible for the creation of new otaku and later for exterminating rival otaku tribes. That should have given him some significant insights into Deus, the SCIRE, otaku tribes, and other related areas. Which is the reason why he is on Jackpoint, invites are based on valuable information and not good character (think Kane ;) ).
What his stint with Deus should also have given him is four or five points of cyber, back in the day otaku were often heavily cybered and Deus didn't do half-measures. Even if he had wanted to remove all that (and managed to disable the safeties), between the introduction of Revitalization in 2070 and his disappearance in 2071 he simply wouldn't have had enough time to heal the Essence loss.

The way i read the reaction to the Icarus mention of Deus is a "yea, right. Pass the pipe". Slamm-o have a grudge against Puck, and is being flippant. Icarus is not backing up his claim, and Snopes basically brushes it aside. And given that the latter has a interest in urban legends that seems a good indication that the general reaction is one of Icarus making a empty claim.

Now Pax is a different story. Puck vanished while looking for evidence that she was alive, after mentioning a dissonant group with former  Ex Pacis members.

Still, it has been mentioned that Street Legends have been published out of planned sequence. So some of the stuff in there may well be backed by books that are still being worked on. This not that dissimilar to what happened to emergence.

He's a seasoned smuggler, and I guess he has quite some experience in escaping the law ;)

OK, I'll buy that.  Also experience in breaking people out of drek-soaked hellholes like Azlan Prisons.  :P

Sorry to take this off topic, back to Puck and him being pulled apart petal-by-petal like a sadist with a rose.

Lets not forget the short chapter story where we see him locked up and everything, and he's able to connect to the technomancer telling it (who got the fuck out of the company soon afterwards). Puck is clearly still alive, but I haven't seen any mention of him getting out or anything, beyond "Oh, he'll be back." by like, 10 Jackpointers.

Could just be wishful thinking on their part.

He's come back from "The Unsurvivable" a time or two already...

It'd be like hearing Kane's been arrested:  "Damn, he must have really wanted something or someone in that prison really bad!"

Augmentation, p. 88-89. Costs 75,000¥+20,000¥/month, repairs 0.1 Essence for every month of treatment. So removing a datajack would take 1 month and only cost them 95,000¥.

Didn't know that existed. But what about:

Though Essence points lost to implantation, Energy Drain, and addiction may be restored through gene therapy, Magic/Resonance points lost are never returned and reductions to the maximum Magic/Resonance attribute remain in effect.

Seems like a time-consuming, expensive, and fruitless effort. What's the point? (Especially in terms of this story)

I believe the idea was that Puck was restored to full essence THEN developed Technomancer abilities. So he wouldn't have lost Resonance due to his gaining abilities while at 6 essence.
