Given that Matrix Perception uses opposed test of:
Willpower + Sleaze (Major)

How does that play with Data Bombs? When I set a Data Bomb, does it record a snapshot of my Willpower and Sleaze values at that time? Does it become a Threshold test against the rating of the Data Bomb?

I honestly wrote it assuming data bombs would be hidden based on the host, in cases where that cannot apply I would use the net hits from setting the bomb as the threshold.

at least until we can confer and make an official ruling.

That's the other thing, the opposed rating is Device Rating x 2. I get that if it's a file in a commlink, but what about a host? Does that mean the host rating == device rating?

In 5th Edition we always played that "Is there a Data Bomb?" or "Is the File Encrypted?"  was a valid question for the extra hits on Matrix Perception.  6th Edition seems to move that to three net hits.

"With a tie, you can perceive the item’s icon. A
single net hit will give you basic information, such as
device rating, or whatever name the device or icon
calls itself. Two net hits will give you more specifi
information, including individual attribute ratings,
and what programs it is currently running. Additional hits will give you more information based on what
the gamemaster wishes to reveal."

Hopefully the GM wishes to reveal the Data bomb or Encryption...  :P

For Hosts I would go with Host Rating + Sleaze, for Commlinks Rating + Sleaze (usually 0) as the opposed test.

My off the cuff answer.

Thanks. Until they errata specifics, those sound like solid interpretations/suggestions for me to use!

Yeah, that's a fair rule of thumb... always give out the presence of a Data Bomb or a "No Data Bomb Guarantee" on 3 net hits.

Doesn't even let the player fall into the trap of forgetting to ask.  So long as they bother perceiving at all, of course...
RPG mechanics exist to give structure and consistency to the game world, true, but at the end of the day, you’re fighting dragons with algebra and random number generators.

Not a fan of GM style where, lets say someone does a Matrix Perception, gets 8 hits, and the GM says, "Hmmm, so are you looking for anything specific?" Because they specifically didn't mention a bomb, when they access file, the GM smirks as they go boom....

The worst I did in SR5 is -3 vs +2. I agree that telling them they didn't notice like that is bad.
