These should be proper data searches given the time he had
so you'd roll 9 then 8 then 7 etc for each search

... also, if they take longer, maybe skip time 'til he's got them (without exhausting himself)
not like we can do a lot without that info...

According to my missions 2 GM they're 15 minutes each.

Yeah, your missions GM was doing them differently. My book says they're standard extended tests with a period of 1 complex action, 1 minute, or 1 hour depending on the type of info and what system you're searching in, GM's discretion (p. 240, SR4A)

Not quite sure how your missions GM did things or why he did them that way but I think rock wants us to stick to the books this time.

Yeah, I'll run with those, you rolled...okay.  This is to see what information you can dig up before the lunch meeting.  I guess I'll apply the rolls in order of priority, then.
It seems pretty harsh, but then again, research takes a lot of time and (often boring) effort.

  • Map and Defenses (5)
    • You find a few okay maps, and satellite images; not labelled like the tourist map, but not abstracted either.
    • But you need to spend more time looking.
  • Dino Logistics (3)
    • Sorry, keep trying.  You're still in the preliminaries.
  • Doc (3)
    • Still not much, I'm afraid.  Still doing the preliminaries.

... so that means?
Unless this searching takes all day; we've got nothing better to do than waiting for more info; can't make plans without it...
If really nothing more can be found, I think we should either proceed without info, hoping we can find info on the ground; or abort because of too dangerous (not an option for Silk).

Does Nomad have a list of VIP's from the reservation server?
If not, I might want to send a text to Silk's horizon contact hoping he can send me the names of some people on that list... might prove to be useful.

That really is about all the useful things Silk might be able to do... Don't see how her other contacts could be of use at this moment... Cheyenne might be able to get something done, but I wouldn't know what to ask and like said in IC, don't really want to ask. (Silk wasn't really lying, for once)

True.  I suppose your meeting is "Haven't been able to find out much, come back tomorrow." or discussing each other's strengths and weaknesses.

Okay, after another day of research and footwork...
  • Map and Defenses
    • You find a good map; the island is mostly heavy jungle, as you expected, with a paved road along the shoreline visible from the air, and you find a couple of rougher trails, both for tours and logistics, and areas that are marked as possible future trails.
    • The defenses; you've seen comments on forums about what looks to be the foundations and hatches for popup SAM sites.
    • There's electrified fencing present around the central complex, which seems to be mostly dug into the mountain itself.  You're still working on plans for the central complex itself; it's not like there's standardized blueprints for volcanic lairs...wait, Aztechnology, never mind.
    • The security and support staff seems to be a couple hundred.
    • The geothermal plant is nothing fancy...fence, trailer, hole in the ground.
    • Looks like there's an plans for an monorail line, but they're still putting down pylons.
    • Same for the zeppelin tieup, although in that case they apparently haven't decided where they're going to put it.
  • Dino Logistics
    • There's been a pretty heavy bump in shipping, coinciding with the construction on the island; most of it is out of Aztlanian ports near the border with Pueblo; San Diego and Tijuana, mostly.
    • There's a lot of soy, yeah, but a surprisingly large amount of actual meat; the carnivores must be pretty high maintenance.
    • The usual small arms and ammunition for a security force, some heavy duty taser and neurostun systems, and a few shoulder fired anti-air rocket launchers.
    • There's also shipments of solar panels.  And gasoline.
    • Supply shipments seem consistent for a group of fifty people; security, support, administration, research...
  • Doc
    • MIT&T Graduate
    • Unmarried
    • Interestingly, it looks like he originally worked for EVO; there's records of him working for them, but he seems to have gotten passed around a lot between then and now.

There's low level employees from some of the big ten going there, either to snoop or to go on vacation (and snoop).  Horizon doesn't seem to have any particular interest, according to your contact.

I'd like to check with my MET merc quartermaster contact to get the scoop on current action in that region, and I'd also like to get in contact with my P.I. contact to see if he's got time to dig around a bit on our Johnson.

Other than that, I'll provide supplemental parazoo/parabot knowledge and tactical suggestions to the rest of the crew while they do most of the legwork heavy-lifting.

OK. So Ill call Olaf, my fixer, and ask him, if he could find a way to contact Akulas or some pirates in the Polynesian area,

Filipinos or some other groups operating in Pacific + Indic ocean.

The other task is, If he is able to find contact on some Hawaiian or Polynesian smugglers.

Im going to use Contact networking, Ill modify this post with the results and rolls once done.

"I heard that we're angling for a contract there, but no dice yet." grumbles Sergeant Wlico.  "Would'a been nice...sun, surf, no action."

Count Olaf says he'll work on it.
The only pirates there would be working the island or nearby islands; trying to find a random ship on the high seas is kinda tricky; most run it like a heist, looking up the route of the ship, or troll closer to major ports, hoping to get lucky.
...then again, if you're willing to shell out cash, you can get some pirates or down-on-their-luck fishermen from the region to pack up and move in.
It'd take a little while...Polynesia's not really an area anyone thinks about.
"It'll take a while...if you really want fast, pay a bunch of fishermen to pack up, give 'em some guns, and hope they get lucky."

We might be posting a bit too much IC here... Sorry, guess I started that.

Marcgarc, still in this game? Don't think Tenzin's even on the bus yet...
