A few questions that I have on Complex Forms....

1. I'm assuming that Complex Forms are a lot like spells - in that (most of the time) you have to take the listed skill test to get a result and then you have to take a drain fade test to see if you take any damage from 'casting'. Would that be correct?

2. Which of the Complex Forms do you actually need to know what your Attack Rating is for (I think that's grammatically correct... ;D)? I'm guessing just the ones that you can 'cast' on other targets (thus making it a kind of attack)?

3. Can you 'cast' Diffusion (Matrix Attribute) on someone else or is it self only? I ask because, unlike Infusion (Matrix Attribute), it doesn't actually mention anything about 'casting' it on other targets.

4. Do Technomancers have any way other than the Emulate Baby Monitor Complex Form to know what their Overwatch Score is?

Thanks for the help. ^_^

My take:

1) Yes I believe the intent for CFs is to mirror spells:  The CF happens, and THEN you suffer fading.  If it knocks you out or kills you, the CF still happened.

2) Since CFs have AR, and the targets of your CFs have Matrix Defense Ratings, I'd compare AR vs DR any time the target is rolling to resist.

3) There's no benefit I can think of in nerfing your own stats, and the CF says it is opposed by Willpower + Firewall.  "Obviously", you cast it on other targets?

4) You can pay close attention to the opposing dice pools.  Of course, if you have the Cleaner CF, knowing your OS really isn't important.  Anytime you think it's getting "kind of high", just reduce it some.
RPG mechanics exist to give structure and consistency to the game world, true, but at the end of the day, you’re fighting dragons with algebra and random number generators.

4.  Baby Monitor is for Babies.  Keep track of your own Overwatch, reboot after you complete your hack, and use the Check Overwatch action if you're really concerned.

If you're a TM, you can simply thread Cleaner over and over and over if you're loitering around someplace you're not supposed to be.

Yes.

2. Which of the Complex Forms do you actually need to know what your Attack Rating is for
Diffusion (Matrix Attribute)
Editor
Mirrored Persona
Pulse Storm
Puppeteer
Resonance Spike
Static Bomb
Static Veil
Tattletale

3. Can you 'cast' Diffusion (Matrix Attribute) on someone else
There is never any reason to ever cast it on yourself

4. Do Technomancers have any ... to know what their Overwatch Score is?
By successfully taking the regular Check Overwatch Score (or Check OS as it is sometimes named) Matrix Action.

Thanks, Chummers - that's a big help. I'll pass these on to our resident TM...
Thanks for the help. ^_^
