Hi Chummers,

just thinking about less lethal ways:

Streetpunk Sam is in need of the next shot, so he plans to rob the next person coming around the corner. Grandma Johnson just happens to be that person, and is confronted by a mean looking knife. Although she is in her 70ties, she is still in good shape. As a distraction she starts to cry and drop her purse on the ground. At the same time pulling her Pepperspray, and spraying a load into Sams face, before hitting him with the heavy handbag over the head.

My question is now what weaponskill would Grandma Johnson have to use?
e.g. her Exotic WP 1(Flamers) skill, which she aquired as a Halloweener groupie?
or Firearms skill?

Cheers,

I'd say neither.  If the sammie is close enough, there's no dodging a gas.  Although maybe I'd give her a Reaction + Intuition of her own to make sure she doesn't get it on herself, too.  The threshold should be 2 or 3, but still depdendent on exact contextual circumstances.

I'd just say Close Combat for beating someone with a purse.  Doesn't seem sufficiently niche to count as "exotic" :D
RPG mechanics exist to give structure and consistency to the game world, true, but at the end of the day, you’re fighting dragons with algebra and random number generators.

I think I will let her cover it with Exotic WP (Squirt Guns) with 4/6*/-/-/-
*max. 10 meter range

I would resolve this with a regular Surprise Threshold (Reaction + Intuition (3)) Test followed by a Simple Avoid Incoming Anytime Action with a distance of Ground Zero (Reaction + Athletics – 6) Test.
