According to the text under firearms, all guns have this:

Pg. 251
Wireless bonus: All modern firearms are considered to be wireless-equipped and come with a digital ammunition counter and an ARO that tells you the ammo type loaded. If equipped with DNI, you gain a bonus Minor Action any turn when you eject a clip (for weapons that have them) or change fire modes (on models that have more than one).

Most gun are not listed as having a smartgun system but guns like the Ares and Ingram do. Smartgun says this.

Pg. 261
Wireless bonus: You gain a +1 dice pool bonus. Gain a bonus Minor Action on a turn when you use the Reload Smartgun or Change Device Mode actions to eject a clip or change fire mode.

This means you get two minor actions, one for the firearm itself and one for the smartgun whenever you eject a clip or change the fire mode. by RAW and to me it is a bit of a stretch. Obviously not what was intended. Possible errata by just taking away the second sentence in Smartgun you no longer double up.

Starting a new thread instead of continuing this in the matrix inactive thread.

Yes that's what I was referring to as well.

One I absolutely agree it needs changed, but I would remove the firearm section instead of changing the smart gun.

I also question that in the firearm section it specifically says if they have a DNI connection. The only way I can think of to have a DNI with a firearm is via a smartlink? Am I forgetting something?

If you have a DNI (trodes, datajack, cyberjack, living persona) I'd imagine you have wireless DNI connection to ALL your PAN items.  Smartlink is irrelevant to the question of whether you have DNI to the gun itself.  (smartlink bonuses aren't predicated on having DNI)

RPG mechanics exist to give structure and consistency to the game world, true, but at the end of the day, you’re fighting dragons with algebra and random number generators.

I was thinking the same way as SSDR. Maybe it is a hold over from 5th but I thought all firearms were hackable even if they did not have a Smartgun system. so I assumed the wireless bonus in firearms was why.

As for the two rules both giving a bonus action for spending an action... it's FAQ-able to establish that you can never gain more than 1 rebate for an action no matter how many rules you trigger.

I don't see a complete redundancy between the two: maybe you don't have any DNI at all (true for most runners?) but yet many have smartlinks.  Still get to use at least one of those two rules when you lack a DNI.

Unless things changed in this edition you get DNI (direct neural interface) between your brains and wireless electronic devices (in general) simply by wearing trodes (or by installing a datajack, control rig, commlink, datajack or, new for this edition, a cyberjack).

Reloading a weapon seem to be a major action in SR6.

...or a major action where you get back a minor action if you use a wireless enabled firearm, but only if it uses a 'clip' and only if you also have DNI
...or a minor action if you reload a revolver with a speed loader

Reloading a smartgun seem to be a minor action in SR6

...or a minor action where you get a minor action back if you use a wireless enabled smartgun

Use Simple Device (manually changing firing mode without having DNI) is a Major action in SR6.

...or a major action where you get back a minor action if you use a wireless enabled Ruger redhawk
...or a minor action if you use any smartgun connected with a wire rather than wireless
...or a minor action where you get a minor action back if you use a wireless enabled smartgun

Change Device Mode (mentally changing firing mode via DNI) is a Minor action in SR6.

...or a minor action where you get back a minor action if you use any wireless enabled firearm.
...or a minor action where you get a minor action back if you use a wireless enabled smartgun

Interesting... I've always ruled that trodes, databank, etc only provide one end of what is required for a DNI but the device they wanted to connect to also needed to be DNI capable ..  in the case of firearms that meant a smartlink
