I struggle reading David Weber's works. His pacing seems off to me... I've got three of his books sitting on my shelf that I occasionally try to finish. I've been working on Hell's Gate for two years and Off Armagedoon Reef I can't finish a chapter (I've also got On Basilisk Station, but I haven't touched it yet, I feel guilty for not finishing the others).

shadowplay by nigel findley, lol
Ah, the classics.   ;D

lol, yup. i'm attemptin' to read them all. i've re-read never deal with a dragon, never trust an elf, working on changling at home and shadowplay at work.

anddd in betweens i'm reading all rpg stuff, like one stage before, halequin, seattle srcbook etc. i'm really trying to get all caught up for this 4th ed stuffs.

i really want to find some battletech novels though, they're hard as heck to locate. love the idea of it, never really read too much of the stories though.. looking forward to it tho. on a side note, i remember playing mechwarrior in pods at the cn tower in toronto. they stuck you in these little pods with a screen a the front, couple joysticks and pedals, 8 players in a basic ffa style fight, lol.
Battletech novels?  Hard to locate?  Where are you?  They're pretty easy to spot at almost every used book store I've ever been to, and even if not there's always eBay.  Lovely, love, eBay:  boon to old paperback fans everywhere.  Do a few searches on eBay for "battletech lot" or "shadowrun books" and you can find some real gems, for real cheap.

The last Battletech novels I picked up, in fact, were all off eBay.  In the course of several moves, I'd managed to lose quite a few of my books, but I snagged the whole Jade Phoenix and Blood of Kerensky trilogies for something silly like $4.50.  You can find 'em for cheap on there, with stores going out of business or clearing shelf space, or folks cleaning out their garage.

And don't forget that BattleCorps and DriveThruRPG are publishing a lot of BattleTech novels in electronic formats.

I don't read anything that I can't order my computer to read to me instead, and describe the pictures.

This assembling of symbol into data, data into information, and information into information object (artifact in the case of a printed codice) is just so... barbaric.

Something to be said for barbarism. For me, it works.

Agreed.

dont feel to bad Savaze, i couldnt get through either of those either, and i agree, it those his timing does feel a bit off, OBS on the other hand is a good read, give it a shot and forget the angst

Just picked up the first three Mike Hammer novels.

I need to work on my Noir style of writing to better expand my abilities as an author...  And, well, it's Mickey Spillane.  No other reason needed.

For some ungodly reason, I decided to cave in and my wife's getting first crack at A Dance With Dragons.  She loves Tyrion, Danaerys, and Jon, so I was nice and let her have the book first....but man do I want to read it, too.

It's worth the wait.  Roose Bolton has a moment where he absolutely verbally eviscerates someone that made the book for me.

Girl Who Played with Fire is even better, but I haven't got to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest yet.

I bet.  I want to get through Spook Country before I tackle The Girl Who Played with Fire.  The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was hardcore so I want to read something that is a little bit less intense.
