So first... We kinda noticed, while converting characters from SR3 to SR4, that allergies were kinda worst in SR4... my gf is playing a Night One... and kinda dealt mostly well with what little sun there is in Seattle and whatnot. Now, she gets a -2 dice pool because of her allergy... so, technically, if she bought the middle common allergy quality to negate it while re-creating her character in SR4, saying her parents tried, ever since she was a youngling, to get her desensibilized (not even sure 'bout how to write that word, lol) , would it work/ make sense?

Second question... Since I started GMing SR with SR3 (mostly just my gf and 1 or 2 friends), I kinda created a metavariant... the Blood Elves... inspired by World of Warcraft (since my gf liked it so much and I wanted to get her interested in a real[/] rpg). Then I head of the Blood Elves from Earthdawn and thought it could work after all... making them major pricks regarding anything else but Blood Elves themselves (and even then) by giving them a +2tn for every roll regarding social interaction, a "magic energy" dependance (+2tn for any mental roll for lack of concentration), a +2 Quickness, +2 Charisma and a -1 Wisdom.
What do you guys think?

You're going to run into a couple issues. First, Runner's Companion is one of the most maligned rulebooks put out by CGL. It has a lot of issues, and probably receives the most house-ruling of any of the core books, at least from what I've experienced in 4th ed. The night ones as presented in it are underpowered for 35bp. Secondly, you're dealing with the issue that night ones as presented in 3E's Shadowrun Companion were a little overpowered for their price... so the drop in ability seems even larger.

My group house rules that night ones have Metagenetic Improvement (reaction) in addition to their other metavariant qualities; this puts them about even for 35bp, and fits considering they had a better quickness rating than standard elves in 3E. We keep all the negative qualities because they properly balance adding +1 reaction and Keen-Eared to an elf. This gives you:

Night Ones - elf metavariant (35bp):
  • All attribs min/max of 1/6 except - Agi 2/7, Reac 2/7, Cha 3/8
  • Keen-Eared - +1 dice pool modifier on audio Perception tests
  • Metagenetic Improvement (reaction) - already factored into attribs
  • Allergy (sunlight, mild) - -2 dice pool modifier when in contact with sunlight
  • Nocturnal - -1 penalty to all Mental attributes during daylight hours
  • Unusual Hair  - no mechanical effect, but all metavariants get distinctive style negative quality and this is one reason why

I personally wouldn't touch the negative qualities... they're called Night Ones for a reason.

Second question: I'm going to pass on this one, nothing personal. I avoid answering questions about 3E on here because this is a 4th edition forum... which is a better system anyways. Adding something from WoW to Shadowrun also goes against my personal taste, but more power to you if it makes the gf enjoy the game and the rest of your group likes it. Cherchez la femme.

Personally, changing anything for or allowing your girlfriend to bypass rules so that her Mary Sue isn't inconvenienced by the rules that guide the game, is A bad form and Bgoing to piss off your other players.

I understand the switch from 3rd to 4th can be shocking to players, but it may be good for them.  The allergy isn't that big of a deal, most runs aren't done in broad daylight, if they are then get inside fast.

I'd say she has to play as it's written.  OR if this is a total deal breaker, allow her to transfer the Karma over and make a new character, there is more out there.  I only allow metavariants if they make for an interesting character that i really want to see for this reason.

As to your second question, on the whole i try and keep games pure for the reason of mental confusion.  Just using the name blood elves will taint player perspective.  using features of them will only make it more difficult to keep people from playing WoW 2072.  If you want to make a metavariant it isn't very hard, but i would definitely not use anything from WoW directly.  Maybe they are magically inclined and so they start with +1 edge, will, and agility (they are elves).  But cyberware and bio ware is treated as if it is always the lowest grade, also, charisma max is -1 because they just dont get society or technology and look down on people who pollute their bodies with it.

Make them only appear in "savage" or natural societies.  cost 10 bp because it's basically a human with extra rp material.
