So some of my players were talking about making a char type that is basically a Pokemon Trainer. And seeing how the Sixth World is just ripe with all types of Critters, What would it take to make such a char? Is it even possible? I'm guessing some type of Adept or Mystic Adept. I've always liked the idea of having other creatures fight for me.  Not in RL of course.

Well if they want to summon beasts they'll be picking a shamanic tradition.
Don't dream it, be it.

I was thinking more of capturing live creatures and training them. Like having a Thunder Hawk for a pet

You need the Running Wild sourcebook, which has extra critter-training goodness (Skills, Costs, times etc).

It was using this book that allowed me to convince the GM to let the team spend a LOT of money on a pair of mated, trained Merlin Hawks for our apartment block. Funnily enough, we don't get a lot of burglaries in our neighbourhood anymore...

However the resident blackberry cat is continuously threatening to make a little snack of the birds if they come too close...

Speaking of which, one of my runners "adopted" a Hellhound puppy. The puppy is about a week old. And I'm wondering when a Hellhound begins to breath fire.  This particular runner is a pyromaniac, and has explosives everywhere in his house. So having a Hellhound living with him could be wonderfully disastrous (it wouldnt be the first time he burned down his apartment). And the only info i can find on Hellhounds is the one paragraph in SR4A. Running Wild didnt have any more (that i could find). Any ideas?

I agree not only does it give rules for training but it also adds other ideas for pets and other "wild" goodies. The index in the back is also very helpful. It is cross referenced to other books before Running WIld.

There are two problems with critters:
-With good training or exotic critters, they are quite expensive (can be gotten around if critters acquired in gameplay)
-They're quite squishy.  Your well-trained Hellhound's ability to breath fire on command doesn't mean much when you're getting shredded by frag grenades.

I'm a big fan of using Wombricks as transport.... Hardened Armour 10.... :)

I too, wish there was more information on Hell Hounds… one paragraph is not enough to tell me what I really want to know about them.

And what about possessing your critter with some spirit? He'll gain Immunity to Normal Weapons, a big boost in physical attributes (as the spirit adds its physical attributes to those of the critter) and you get skill levels in fighting equal to the spirit's force.

Even a Devil Rat can become a powerful fighter when possessed by a spirit with Natural Weapons or Elemental Attack. Or you can possess a Bandit with a Task Spirit, add the extra Skill Power to get your own pocket B&E specialist.

check my sig for Thunderhead, might give you some ideas. He's a mystic adept with Animal Affinity (+4), Animal Empathy (+2) and Animal Handling skill group, along with a bunch of summoning talents for summoning beast spirits. I might have rolled him up differently to make his summoning possession-based, but it'll at least give you a starting point!
